The Rejection was supposed to destroy her.

Lyra Miller was the pack’s "useless" wolf scentless, weak, and overlooked. On the night of the Blue Moon, she expected her fated mate, Alpha Xander, to finally give her a home. Instead, he gave her a death sentence.

"I, Xander Thorne, reject you. A weakling has no place by my side. Leave my lands by sunrise, or be hunted."

Banished and broken, Lyra vanished into the Forbidden Forest, leaving behind the only life she knew.

The Return will bring him to his knees.

Five years later, the Mooncrest Pack is on the verge of collapse. Their only hope is an alliance with the "Shadow Queen" the mysterious, ruthless leader of the rising Rogue Empire.

When Alpha Xander arrives to beg for mercy, he finds a woman he doesn't recognize. Lyra is no longer the trembling girl he threw away. She is powerful, wealthy, and wears a crown made of the bones of her enemies.

Xander wants his mate back. He wants a second chance. But Lyra isn't interested in an apology. She wants the one thing he swore she’d never have: Everything he owns.

The mark of shame
Chapter 1 The scent of mountain pine and expensive cologne should have been the sweetest thing I’d ever smelled. It was the scent of my soulmate, the man I had waited nineteen years to find. But as Alpha Xander stood before the gathered Mooncrest Pack, his eyes weren’t filled with the warmth of a fated bond. They were as cold as the silver dagger strapped to his thigh. "Lyra Miller," he said, his voice booming across the silent square, amplified by the heavy mountain air. He didn't reach for my hand. He didn't even look at the small, hopeful smile trembling on my lips. A heavy silence fell over the thousands of wolves watching us. My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. This was it. The moment I would finally belong somewhere. "I, Xander Thorne, Alpha of the Mooncrest Pack, hereby exercise my ancestral right," he declared, his gaze finally snapping to mine, sharp and full of loathing. "I find you lacking, Lyra. You are a wolf without a scent, a warrior without a win. You are a defect that would weaken my bloodline." The air left my lungs as if he’d punched me. "I reject you as my mate and my Luna," he sneered, loud enough for even the omegas in the back row to hear. "And by the laws of this pack, I banish you. You have until sunrise to cross the border, or you will be hunted as a rogue." He turned his back on me then, reaching out to pull a smirking, gold-clad woman toward him, Sienna, my own cousin. As the pack began to howl in approval of their new, 'stronger' Luna, something inside me didn't just break. It ignited. The crowd’s roar felt like a physical weight, pressing the air from my lungs. I looked at Sienna, my cousin, who had spent her life pretending to be my best friend. She was now tucked under Xander’s arm, her fingers tracing the Alpha mark on his neck that was supposed to be mine. She didn't look guilty; she looked victorious. "Xander, please," I whispered, my voice trembling. "The bond... you can feel it. We belong to each other." Xander stepped closer, his shadow looming over me. The scent of pine intensified, making my inner wolf howl in agony, begging for a touch he would never give. He leaned down, his lips brushing my ear, but his words were poison. "The bond is a mistake, Lyra. You are an Omega with no power, and I am an Alpha who demands a Queen. I’d rather rip my own heart out than spend eternity tied to something as pathetic as you." He pulled back, his eyes flashing a dominant gold. "Now, run before, I let the warriors use you for target practice." Laughter erupted from the front row. These were people I had grown up with, people I had cooked for, bled for, and cared for. Now, they were tossing silver coins at my feet, mocking my poverty and my "defect." I looked down at the silver coins glinting in the dirt. Something inside me, deep in the dark corners of my soul where my wolf had been sleeping, finally snapped. The pain was so sharp it went numb. The heat of the bond didn't die; it turned into a freezing, crystalline rage. I didn't cry. I didn't beg again. Slowly, I reached down and picked up a single silver coin. The metal burned my skin. The silver was toxic to our kind, but I welcomed the pain. It was nothing compared to the hole in my chest. "Keep your land, Xander," I said, my voice suddenly steady, echoing with a strange resonance that made a few warriors frown in confusion. "Keep your title. Keep your 'Queen.'" I looked him dead in the eye, and for a split second, I saw a flicker of doubt in his golden gaze. "But remember this face," I whispered. "Because the next time you see it, you’ll be the one begging. And I won't just reject you. I’ll ruin you." Without waiting for his response, I turned and walked away. I didn't head for the pack house, to pack a bag. I didn't go to say goodbye to my parents, who were already looking away in shame. I walked straight toward the Forbidden Forest, the place where Rogues went to die. But I wasn't going there to die. I was going there to find the power he claimed I didn't have. The moon hung high, blood-red and mocking. As I crossed the border, the bond with Xander tore out of my soul like a jagged blade. I collapsed to my knees, a silent scream tearing through my throat. Fine, I thought as darkness began to take me. If I am a monster to you, I will become the greatest monster this world has ever seen.
