Lauren's Way
“Ms. Rossi, wake up!” Mrs. Napier yells. “My class is not your bedroom”. “If it were, we’d all be having a much better time,” I smirk. My classmates chuckle, and I hear a few whistles. “Ms. Ros-“Yeah, I know,” I say while grabbing my backpack. “To the dean’s office; what else is new.” I exit Mrs. Napier’s class, letting her door slam on my way out to annoy her. I’m Lauren Rossi, a junior at Fire Ridge High School. I’m over today; yet another day is counting down until I can leave this Goddess-forsaken place. “Hey, Laur.” My best friend Ruby called my name. “Kicked out again?” “Yeah, well, you know I’m Naips favorite girl.” I roll my eyes while Ruby gasps. “Watch it; you don’t want them to overhear you.” “If they do, I’ll zap ‘em.” I snap my fingers and send a small spark at Ruby. “Lauren cut it out; you know I hate it when you do that. You’re so lucky you’ve got your magic; 2 more years and I’ll be able to get you back. You wait.” “Yeah, I’m fortunate, lucky they butchered my dad, mated my mom, lucky the trauma caused my magic to surge out of me; you’re right, Ruby. I’m so lucky.” “I’m sss-sorry, Laur,” Ruby sniffles. “Have you still been avoiding your mom?” she asked. “AS LONG AS THAT THING IS THERE, I’LL NEVER SPEAK TO HER AGAIN,” I screamed. Ruby flinched and had tears running down her eyes. I was so focused and upset that I didn’t realize I had an audience. They heard me, the dragon class. Here we go, I thought.
