Chapter 17 I spotted Matt’s blue car straight away in the short-term car park, directly opposite the crossing. Matt sat in the driver’s seat, the glow from his phone illuminating his face. He was waiting for me to call and hadn’t seen me yet. I took a moment to catch my breath, wiped the perspiration from my forehead, then walked over to the passenger door. Might as well get this over with. I tapped on the window. It lowered. The sounds of Ella Fitzgerald scatting “Doo-wah doo-wah doo-waah” pounded out of the speakers. “Hi,” Matt said as he lowered the volume. “Hi.” I opened the rear door and shoved my bag on the back seat, then slid into the passenger seat beside him.
