Chapter 16

1564 Words

Chapter 16 Clutching my phone in one hand, I grabbed my handbag with the other and ran down the stairs. Where did I park Bertie? Heart pounding, I scanned the street for a flash of yellow. There he was. I hopped in and started up the engine fumbling in the centre console for the car charger. Seven per cent battery wasn’t going to last long, but hopefully, it would charge a bit on the way. I slid Bertie into gear and drove out the main gate. I went via the drive-through bottle shop to pick up a bottle of apology wine. Ten minutes later, I pulled up in front of Matt’s house. The front light was on. He must have heard my message and was waiting for me. Shoving the bottle of wine into my handbag, I raced up the path to his front door and rang the bell. I licked my lips and waited. Nothing.
