“Give it to me...It's mine It's mine" Jason and his elder sister dragged the little toy. "It's okay.. It's okay Jane give it to him, he's your junior brother" Jason's Mum said to Jane. "Hmph...so possessive. He gets everything he wants" Jane said to Jason and leaves the living room. “What are we having for dinner"? Jason asks his Mother. "Your favorite dish" She replied. "Ohh...that means we are having Jollof rice and chicken for dinner" Jason said salivating. A horn was heard at the gate. "Daddy is back. Jane go open the gate for him" Jason said to Jane. "Can you stop commanding me. Am not your mate"! Jane shouts back at Jason. "Duhh.." Jason replied to Jane. Jane hits Jason's head with a pillow. Jane leaves the living room to open the gate. Jason continues playing with his toy. "Mum...why are my perceiving the smell of a gas. Did any of the neighbours leave their gas without locking it? Jason asks his Mum. "Jason..you're at it again. What are you trying to say. Well am not perceiving the smell of gas" Jason's Mum replied to him. “Mum.. What does a gas explosion look like"? Jason asks his Mum. "I don't know. I haven't witnessed one" Jason's Mum replied. "I hope nothing happens to our house today"! Jason said and continued playing with his toy. "Stop saying absurd things" Jason's Mum replied to him. Jason's Dad entered the house along with Jane. "Dad.."! Jason said as he hugged his Dad tightly. "Welcome Dad. How was your day"? Jason asked his Dad. "Fine. What about your's? How was school today"? Jason's Dad asked him. "As long as Sharon came to school. He's day is going to be fine" Jane replied to Dad. "Who is Sharon"? Jason's Dad asked Jane. Jason ran towards Jane and closed her mouth with his hand. "Everyone come eat. The food is ready" Jason's Mum said to them. "Honey..this food tastes very delicious" Jason's Dad said to his wife. Jason's Mum pecked his Dad on the cheeks. "You know it's Jason's favorite. I had to make it taste delicious" Jason's Mum said as she touched Jason on the head. "Love you Mum" Jason said to his Mum. “What about Sophia and Jade"? Jason's Dad asked Jane. "They are not yet back. I think they're Mistress is making them overwork again. Celine is not yet back too" Jane replied. "There mistress again. Once I get money. I'll make sure Sophia enters a University" Jason's Dad said smiling. "Where did Celine go to"? Jason's Dad asked. "Her Music class as usual. She prefers coming back home around 10 pm" Jane replied. "She's so determined" Jason's Dad replied. "She really has a big dream of being a musician" Jason's Mum said. "She's just like me. When I was like her...." Jason's Dad couldn't complete what he was saying. "I always play the piano for twenty four hours" Jane and Jason said together. Jason's Mum was amazed. "How did you guys know what I wanted to say"? Jason's Dad asked Jane and Jason. "You always say that everytime" Jason replied. Jason's Dad smiled. "Jason..What do you want me to get for you tomorrow"? Jason's Dad asked him. "I want a little cute puppy" Jason replied smiling with his little cheeks blushing. "Puppy...hmph"! Jane fumbled and smirked. "Jason you don't want something else apart from a puppy"? Jason's Mum asked him. "Nope...I only want a Puppy" Jason replied. "Then who will be cleaning it"? Jane asked Jason. "You of course" Jason replied giving her a scornful look. Jane hissed. "Think of something else" Jason's Dad said to him. "I want a baby brother" Jason replied. Jason's Mum spoon dropped out of hands. It's been Twelve years since she gave birth to Jason. She hasn't been able to conceive since then. Before she gave birth to Jason, Many women made mockery of her for not giving birth to a male child, She always cried in the night or when she's alone. "Don't worry Dad is going to buy it for you. Okay"? Jason's Mum said to him. "Thank you Dad" Jason said to his Dad. "You're welcome son" His Dad replied. Jane stood up and left the living room. "Dad don't you think our house is too high?. I mean we live in the 46th floor. Which is the highest. What if something happens down stairs. How are we going to know"? Jason asked his Dad. "We don't pray for such thing" Jason's Dad replied. Boom! Boom!! Boom!! A sound exploded downstairs. Jason felt a bit uncomfortable. "Dad am hearing noises"! Jason shouted. "Jason calm down" Jason's Dad said to him. "I can't I really mean. Jane please reduce the volume of the Television. It's too high" Jason said to Jane. "Hey what's your problem"? Jane asked Jason. "Don't you think you're too harsh. Reduce the sound of the Television now" Jason's Dad said to Jane. Jane reduced the sound of the Television. Jane smirked and gave Jason a scornful look. "Dad I heard the sound of an explosion. I perceived the smell of gas earlier too. Dad please open the window" Jason said to his father. "I think so too" Jason's Dad replied to him and opened the window. “Oh my God... Jane turn off the Television"! Jason's Dad shouted at her. Jane turned off the Television immediately. Jason's Dad opened the window just to see a group of people gathered in front if the house shouting for help. "Is someone upstairs"? They asked one another. "Honey... Honey come out from the room"! Jason's Dad called his wife. "What's happening why am I hearing the sound of a sirene. Wait..is that a sound of a fire service? Is our house on fire"? His wife asked him as she tired her wrapper around her waist tightly to her waist. Jason stood on the ground shivering greatly. He has never witnessed a fire explosion. "Open the door everyone go out" Jason's Dad said to them. "How do you expect us to go out when their is a fire explosion downstairs"? His wife asked him. "Do what I say to you woman"! He shouted at his wife. She did as she was told. "Everyone be careful" he said to them. Jane carried Jason on her back. "Dad are you sure we are going to survive"? Jason asked his Dad with his lips trembling. His Dad didn't reply. "Someone help"! Jason's Dad shouted. "Is anyone down there" His Dad asked but he didn't get a reply. Jason's Mum banged on the window. The people downstairs kept murmuring amongst one another. "Chineke Moo"! A woman amongst the people shouted which means "My God oo"!. "Dad. We don't have any other option but to jump down here" Jane said. "No we can't. We might die straight" Jason replied to her. "We might die too when the fire reaches our apartment" Jane said to Jason. "Should we Jump"? Jane asked her Dad. "Did you see the newest trending outfit out on Jumia"? Jade asked Celine and Sophia as they entered the gate laughing. "What's happening"? Celine asked as she saw the fire. "What's going on"? She ran and asked one of the neighbors. The neighbor couldn't reply but continued crying. "Where is My Mom and Dad"? Sophia asked. "Where is Jason and Jane"? Jade asked with tears rolling down from her cheeks. "Mom...Dad..Jason, Jane"!!! Jade shouted. "Where are you guys"?! She kept on shouting and crying. "I think Jade is calling my name. Should I answer"? Jane asked her Dad. "No.. don't. Don't let her know that we're here. I don't want her to faint out of shock" Her Dad replied. "Dad are we gonna survive"? Jason's asked his Dad. This time around he started crying seriously. His Mom joined too. Jane couldn't hide her tears. She joined too. "Dad...Please say something, how are we going to come out. Dad"! Jane shouted at her Dad as she cried. "Ahh..."! Her Dad cried out touching his heart. He has a heart disease he has been battling with for years now. "Is this suffering going to end one day" Jason's Mom cried out as she unties her scarf. The sound of the sirene kept ringing in Jason's ear. he felt traumatized as he held his head tightly. Everywhere looked blurry in his eyes. "Dad. I must survive"! Jane shouted. "We're all gonna survive" Her Mum replied. "Dad am gonna jump through the window"! Jane said. "No... don't"! her Dad replied to her. "Then what are we going to do. Am in my final year as a high school student. I got a scholarship to study in any university I want to study in around the world. Am not gonna die. I must survive"! She shouted as she went towards the window. Jane opened the window and looked down. Everyone looked at her. "Is that not Jane"?! Sophia asked Celine. "Oh... that's my twin sister and sisters down there, Am really sorry if I die in the process. But I have a least chance of surviving" Jane said. "Is she going to jump down from there"? The people downstairs murmured amongst each other. "That's my twin sister. Jane...."!! Jade shouted. "Jade..."!! Jane called out to Jade as tears rolled down from her cheeks. "Am sorry if I die"! Jane shouted to Jade. Jade cried uncontrollably as she reached out her hands to Jane. "It's all cars down there" Jane said as she looked down. "Are you insane"? Her Dad asked her. "Am sorry that I am" she replied. "Jane please don't do this" Jason said to her. "Am sorry Jason"! Jane said out and broke out of the window and fell.. "Jane....Nooo"! her Mom shouted but then Jane has let go of herself. Jane fell on top of one of the cars down and blood gushed out from her head. The people downstairs shouted heavily. "Jane.."! Jade shouted as she fell down and fainted. "Wake up jane"...!! Celine and Sophia said to her. The fire was getting more wildly now. The fire service was trying to control it but all the neighbors in the house are using a large gas cylinder, which made it worse. "There's no much time left"! Jason's Dad said to them. Jason couldn't bear the sight her fainted too. "We'd jump"! Jason's Dad said to them. "Am afraid"! his wife replied.He dragged his wife closer to himself. he brought his and hand and her's together. He made them hug themselves closer and tightly. "Close your eyes" He said to his wife. She did as he was instructed. “1..2...3..” He counted and they broke through the window. The people downstairs looked at them as they broke through the window tightly wrapping Jason together. “Dad.....”!!! Celine and Jade shouted.
