Leaving the doctor's office both Alex and Vic were too shocked to speak. They climbed into his car and sat there quietly. Vic finally broke the silence. "What the f**k did we do?"
Alex looked at her confused. He replied "What do you mean?". " I mean We are going to have TWINS. How does that happen?" Alex playfully wiggled his eyebrows. He needed to lighten the situation up. She just walked into it and he was a guy.
He responded "Oh I think you know how it happened. Zach dared us."
She wanted to scream but she didn't instead she took a deep breath before saying "I am technically a genius. I remember what happened more clearly than I want to. I even know how it all works. By the way Zach dared us to stay in the same room. He didn't dare us to have s*x with each other."
He responded "Ok, two questions. One, How clearly do you remember that night? I may want details. Two, Are you really a genius? I'm just curious." Vic couldn't believe him. She said, "Are you f*****g serious? My memory is unfortunately perfect. I will not give you details, you were there. They claim I am. Though right now I Won't swear to it.
Alex started the car and began to drive. He spoke without taking his eyes off the road. "It'll be okay you know. We'll figure it out. You aren't alone in this." Vic sat quietly for a moment before mumbling "Well I've been alone my whole life."
He dropped it although, he really wanted her to talk about it. She needed to let it out. Of course the same could be said for him. Which is probably why he dropped it. They finished the drive to her place in complete silence.
Maggie was just walking in the door when her phone rang. She of course let it ring three times before she answered it. " Hey, Regan. Are you okay?" Vic was crying again. She really needed to talk to someone who was not Alex. "I'm a few blocks away. Can I come over?" She asked. Maggie of course agreed then hung up.
Five minutes later Maggie had just started some cocoa, when the door bell rang. She opened the door to find Vic "Regan" standing there in tears. She engulfed her in a hug asking "What's wrong hun?" Vic sniffled before saying "I'm pregnant and I'm having twins."
Maggie was surprised but knew that Vic hadn't spoken to her parents. Not since she was emancipated at fifteen. She realised her saying "Come on sweetie. I'm making cocoa." Vic followed her to the kitchen.
They remained quiet until the cocoa was ready. Finally, Maggie joined Vic at the table with two cups of cocoa. Vic had stopped crying when she said "I just don't think I can do this. I mean my parents were evil. I just don't know how to be a mom to one child. Let alone two."
Maggie sighed before responding "Regan you are the strongest woman I have ever met." Vic just sat there not saying a word. So Maggie said "Regan look at me. What is this really about?"
Neither of them knew that Zach had come home. He was standing just outside the kitchen door. When Vic asked "Please, don't repeat this?"
Maggie was Vic's only friend. That's why she felt she needed to tell her everything. Plus she had to get it off her chest. It was suffocating her and she trusted Maggie. "I promise." Maggie replied.
Vic began "I'm really scared. My mother never wanted children. She reminded me of that everyday. It was the only time she spoke to me. With exception to calling me a whore." She took a few deep breathes before continuing. Trying to fight the urge to cry again she said "My father......would...come into my room at night after my mother passed out, she blamed me. He would lock the door before......" She trailed off she just couldn't say it. Then she asked "What if I become my mother? What if Alex is like my father?"
Zach had heard all of this. He was so angry, how could anyone do that to their child. 'No wonder Regan fought to be emancipated' he thought.
Maggie was trying to absorb all that her best friend had just said. It took a minute before she said " Oh Regan." She wrapped Vic in a hug as she spoke "You would never become your mother. You are too strong for that. Besides you know how that felt. As far as Alex becoming your father. Not a chance in hell. I have known that man since before I married Zach. He would kill someone for even thinking it."
Vic sighed and gave a very weak smile before saying "Okay maybe" Maggie sternly said " No MAYBE about it. Like I said you are the strongest person I have ever met. You "baby sis" are a fighter. You may not have gone off to war but you definitely fought one."
Vic smiled at that "Baby sis, huh?" she questioned. Maggie just waved her hand saying "You're my little sister now. So get used to it." Vic laughed softly then said "I guess I could do worse." Maggie smack her arm and they continued talking.
Zach walked away from the door. What Maggie said was true. He needed to talk to Alex. She was right Vic had fought a war. That was something Alex could understand. Maggie may have promised not to repeat it but Zach didn't. Though he did feel like it made him an Asshole. He could live with it.
He picked up his phone and keys heading out the door. He had already dialed Alex's number when he got into his car.
Alex answered the phone "Yeah Zach" All Zach said was "I'm on my way over. We HAVE to talk." Then he hung up.
