IN LOVE WITH THE ENEMY

CHAPTER THREE: The Dare

It had been a year since the dinner party. Vic and Alex had just begun their residencies at the hospital. They were constantly finding ways to get on each other's nerves without trying.

She would make a suggestion that he found ridiculous. He would comment in a way that offended her. They ended up being separated several times.

Zach and Maggie had made a point of spending time with each of them separately. In an effort to keep the peace. Though after three months Zach was convinced they were exactly what the other needed.

Maggie on the other hand thought they were a recipe for disaster. So, they may have made a bet. If Zach could get them to spend one full night together in the same room. With out some one dying. Then Maggie would do anything he asked for a month. If he couldn't then he had to pay for a vacation in Rome.

Zach had an ace up his sleeve. He had found out that neither of them would turn down a dare. So he arranged for both of them to be at his birthday party. Where he would pull them aside to "talk". Then after they started arguing he would make his dare.

Vic was parking her car when she saw Alex climbing out of his new car. She rolled her eyes thinking 'Just great here we go'. She got out of her car locking it up. The worst part was she had to park in the back forty.

Alex knew she was behind him. He just hoped she wouldn't say anything to him. Because he wasn't going to say anything to her.

They walked through the main doors right into a waiting Maggie. "We need to talk. Both of you." she said walking to her cubicle in registration. They both rolled their eyes thinking 'great' as they followed her. Once they had all sat down Maggie spoke. "Okay, you are both coming to Zach's birthday party tonight. I expect you to be on your best behavior. Regan don't argue with him. Alex for once please keep your opinions to yourself. You know it just sets her off. God in heaven help us there's going to be liquor. Zach insisted, so don't get drunk and start shit." They both nodded saying "Okay".

They walked to the emergency room to begin their shift. They weren't there twenty minutes before they started arguing. "All I'm asking is that you not eat my lunch today." Alex said calmly. Vic responded "I haven't been eating your lunch. First of all I go out for lunch. Secondly I Highly Doubt you can cook." she put emphasis on the words highly doubt. That's all it took. Alex mumbled, "b***h" as he walked away. He was not about to get into a fight in the hallway.

The day went by as usual with the exception of the patients. By that evening they were both considering skipping the party.

Zach's party was in full swing. Most everyone was either drunk or nearly there. He decided it was time to "talk" to Alex and Vic. He pulled them aside asking "What gives? You are both our friends." Vic's response was, "It's not my fault he's a d**k Head." "I'm a d**k head. b***h you need to see a d**k head. Maybe then you'd be less bitchy." Alex retorted. Vic smirked saying "I said you were a d**k Head. It doesn't mean you have one."

Oh that was it! They were going back and forth when Zach started yelling, "THAT'S IT! I DARE YOU TO SPEND ONE FULL NIGHT TOGETHER!" They both gawked at him before saying "NO!"

Zach smiled responding, "I said I Dare you. Alex we've been friends since high school. Trust me this is for the best. Regan, my wife loves you like a sister. You two need to work this out before one of you kills the other. All you have to do is stay in the same room."

Alex and Vic scowled at each other and both said, "Whatever." Zach said "Good come with me." They begrudgingly followed him up stairs to one of the guest rooms. When they reached the door Alex asked "What is this?" Zach smiled, "This is a guest room. You didn't think I would trust the two of you did you. All you have to do is stay in this room. Now it is, he swayed a little as he looked at his watch, eleven ten pm. You can leave at seven am. That is just under, he had to think for a minute, eight hours." he said before shoving them in the room. Closing the door then walking back down stairs.
