1: ONE
K I A R A
Today is the biggest day of my life.
Today, I, Kiara Blake, will be announced as the Luna of the Crescent wolf pack.
I was giddy with excitement as I picked out my favorite dress from my closet and began getting ready for the ceremony. The moment I have been waiting for my whole life is finally here.
I have spent the last three years training for this exact day and now that it's here I couldn't stop smiling.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror.
My brown curly hair cascaded down my shoulders, and the light make up on my face brought out the best in my features. My hazel eyes had a glow to them and my pink lips were plump.
The shimmery silver dress I was wearing accentuated my voluptuous curves, hugging me in all the right places and giving me the confidence I needed to feel beautiful and sexy.
I had always been a little bigger than other girls, with my full breasts and my big ass and thick thighs, but now looking at myself, I was grateful for my shape, and while some were envious of my size, most made fun of me.
Especially since I moved in with my mate, Nolan.
I quickly learned that his pack members were not kind. They treated me like s**t and would constantly try to body shame me.
But I never let it get to me. I knew they were just jealous of me. As long as I was healthy and felt good in my skin, nothing else mattered.
I mean, why wouldn't they be? Not only am I going to be the Luna of a very powerful pack, but my mate is also the Alpha of the Crescent wolves.
It was a position they all wanted, especially the she-wolves. And they just couldn’t digest the fact that I was the one he chose, and not them. It was clear they didn’t like me because of how they would bully me every chance they got.
But today, I was going to put a stop to all their games. Today, they were going to respect me as their Luna.
Today also hit differently because my father, who didn’t believe in me, was about to be proven wrong. Three years ago, my father placed a bet that I would never be able to mate with an Alpha.
And when he found out I had, he didn't believe me, and so he placed another bet. This time, betting against me being the Luna.
I knew it was because he was angry at me for running away and mating with someone from a different pack, and refusing to go through with the politically arranged marriage that he had set up for me.
Living as the Alpha king’s secret daughter definitely had its perks, but there was always a price to pay. My father expected me to obey his commands and follow the path he had set up for me.
But after meeting Nolan, my mate, I had realized that following the path of an Alpha king, wasn't what I wanted for my life.
I was tired of living a life that wasn't truly mine, and so, even though I knew that it would disappoint my father, I took a leap of faith, and followed my heart.
Now here I am finally, three years later, on the biggest day of my life, ready to show him that he was wrong about me.
Today, I will officially become the Luna of the Crescent Wolf pack and prove to the world that I am more than just the secret daughter of an Alpha King.
I applied my makeup carefully, and then pulled my hair back into a neat bun. When I was done getting dressed, I gave myself a final look in the mirror, and smiled.
I looked stunning.
"You got this, Kiara," I said to myself, giving my reflection a nod of approval. "Today is your day, and nothing is going to stop you."
I could hear people begin to arrive downstairs and a small part of me started to worry that something might go wrong, but I shook off the negative thoughts and walked over to the door.
It was time to take my rightful place.
I stood behind the large doors leading into the ceremonial hall, where the ceremony was taking place.
As I stood there, I felt butterflies in my stomach. My hands were sweaty, and my heart was pounding out of my chest. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, trying to calm my nerves.
Just as I opened them, the large doors opened and everyone turned to look at me. Some of them were smiling, others looked nervous, and there were even some that didn't bother to hide the disgust in their eyes.
I ignored them all and made my way to the front of the room where Nolan was standing, waiting for me. He looked handsome in his black tuxedo, and his green eyes shone with pride.
When I reached him, I noticed his mood was a little strange. He didn't smile at me like he usually did.
Instead, he looked angry and it confused me.
"We are all gathered here today for the most important day in the Crescent Wolf pack. Our Alpha, Nolan Wolf has chosen a mate and today, he will claim her as his own," the elder spoke, interrupting my thoughts.
I couldn't help but feel a little nervous. Something didn't feel right, and I could tell that Nolan was feeling it too.
"The ceremony will begin once the Luna has been presented to the pack," the elder said.
A hush fell over the crowd as a large wooden door at the back of the room opened. I could see the elders and the council members entering.
I looked over at Nolan, who was looking at the door intently. I wondered what was going through his mind. Was he waiting for someone?
Suddenly, a familiar scent caught my attention and I turned to see a group of people enter the room. I instantly recognized one of them.
Lyra Lockwood.
A girl with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. She was the only daughter of Nolan's chief warrior, and one of the most popular girls in the pack.
She was also the one who had been bullying me the most since I arrived. The mean comments, the tripping, the name calling. I had suffered all of it from her.
And now, she was walking toward the front of the room, looking like a queen.
I looked around the room, trying to see if anyone else had noticed her arrival, but no one seemed bothered by it.
Why were they all looking at her?
She looked at me, a smug smile on her face. She was clearly enjoying the attention she was getting.
She stopped when she was in front of the elder, who was standing next to Nolan.
"Let us present the Luna of the Crescent wolves. Our future Luna and wife, Lyra Lockwood!"
And that was when I felt my heart shatter into a million pieces.
