Chapter Ten: Burning Name.

1057 Words
3rd person's pov Varek, after hearing the gibberish Maya had uttered was enraged as he shot to his feet, glaring at the girl in front of him, “What did you just say?” Maya, unbeknownst to him, was in a turmoil, she was scared of what she had just seen, the dead bodies, the cries for help, the howls of injustice, it felt so real like she was standing right in the middle of it all. “I'm ... .I'm ... .sorry I didn't…mean..” she stuttered as she tried to apologize but Varek's mind was already made up, all that he had suspected was actually true. Varek let out a dry chuckle, “I knew we should never have let you into the pack,” he stated before storming out, not giving Maya a chance to speak. Maya stuttered, trying to get him to listen but he was already gone. She wanted so much to apologize and to explain herself, but she didn't know what to explain. She didn't know what had happened, what she had seen that made her utter such words. Maya tugged at the chains for the first time, wanting to be set free. After a while of trying, the only thing to show for burns in her skin from the silver chains, her body trembled and her mind was in a frenzy as she tried to make sense of it all. “What if Torian found her and caused the destruction,” It was just my imagination playing tricks on me, but it felt so real. Varek returned with two other guards as well as a very confused Sarah, “What the hell is going on Varek, I thought we agreed to let her stay until she was healed,?” Varek scoffed, “That was before she just said we were all going to die,” staying blandly before ordering the two others to grab Maya and take her outside. The two werewolves didn't hesitate before I locked the chains and dragged a weak Maya, hair splayed all around her. Sarah followed behind them out of the room, confused as hell, “ so what, you are just going to throw her out now?” “No, she already knows where the pack is and who knows who she has informed, she's not loving this pack alive,” at this, a shiver ran down Maya's spine as she begged for a life she didn't want to live anymore. Pleading that she didn't mean what she said, “I just……” it would even be more weird if she explained that she saw it, their deaths, not of my would they think she's a spy for the crimson blood pack, but also that she was crazy. The other members of the pack began to gather round and gazed at her in disdain, hearing what their alpha had to say about the ridiculous comment Maya had made. Varek wanted her gone, and he wasn't going to hesitate finishing the job himself if he had to, but first, he needed Norman to be there. She was the one who insisted they let her stay. “Norman would be back soon, she took a trip down to the rivers,” Someone yelled out. Varek ordered that a pyre would be built and she would be burnt by sundown, the others cheered in unison, they had all faced the aftereffects of the attacks from the crimson blood pack. Having a member amongst them didn't sit well with the pack, but they only followed orders from their alpha, now that the intruder would be burnt to ashes, they were quite satisfied. Sara didn't know what to say as she gazed at Maya with a distraught heart, she had vouched for Maya and yet this was what she got, it made her look like a fool. Maya couldn't tell who was around her anymore, they were all too much, the noise was loud, so many movements, she didn't realise that she just lost her only alibi. The pyre was built in no time, Maya continued to plead her case, not caring if they thought she was crazy anymore, it was better than being dead, “Please, I'm begging you, please let me go, I only told you what I saw, nothing more please,” “Oh, so you're psychic now huh?” Questions were thrown her way as they didn't believe a word she said. Sweat dripped down the side of her face, the tears flowing profusely as she cried, while she was being dragged and tied to the pyre. Norman chose this moment to return amidst the chaos, she wasn't very pleased, “What the hell is going on here?” Sarah let her in on the situation and Norman didn't believe it, not that she didn't believe what Varek had heard, she didn't believe Maya was part of it, as a somewhat psychic herself, she could relate to this sort of situation. Norman sauntered forward slowly towards Varek, “You should be helping her not punishing her, for all you know she might have been been giving you a warning, which in your stupid anger and insecurity, you are ready to let it burn,” “Not this time Norman, this is my pack and I know what's best for it and she isn't,” Varek cut Norman off, “I shouldn't have listened to you from the beginning,” With a wave of Varek's wrist he ordered that the pyre be set ablaze. The orange flames started small, slowly increasing with Maya in the middle, all the while she thought of how much her life had been shitty, from one hell hole to the other. The fire rose up to her knees and she screened out, the bandages had gotten loose earlier and finally fell away, dropping to the fire and bringing to ash. Once the blindfold was gone, Maya panicked, looking around frantically as the fire kept creeping against her, that was until she saw a name, or rather heard it. She couldn't explain it but all she had to do was utter it. “Auren,” Maya's voice was barely above a whisper but he heard it. Varek heard it. And he sprung into action, dashing into the raging flames without a second though.
