Chapter 6

Rome, Italy. Carlos's pov: "Would you mind informing us what the case is about and how it began?" Alliana asked. "Yes," I said. I mentioned to them before I began, "Well, this dates back to when Kai and I were kids, and it contains a few delicate details." They gave a nod. "This happened long ago before I was even the man I am now. I spent nearly my whole childhood living with our parents until a tragic accident occurred one day. You see, many communities and organizations benefited from the assistance of our parents, who are well-known in Rome. They were loved by all, but some individuals loathed them as well." "We gained wealth and power." Some people didn't like what we did with the power, which was to expand new communities and organizations so they could also become well-known. Since those hostiles had been so irate and vicious that they had threatened to kill our parents and us, we had to leave the residents' area and move to a more isolated and private location, specifically right here. "Our parents thought we would be safe here until we were being followed." "We were all watching a movie together one night in the living room, and everything was calm until we heard loud noises and glass smashing." Our bodyguards dragged Kai and me into this room, where we would hide until the atmosphere was safe again. Kai and I last saw our parents when they instructed us to remain in this room and refrain from leaving unless absolutely necessary. "The bodyguards were stationed outside and inside as they closed the door." I heard our mother screaming but didn't hear our father. Kai and I learned that our parents had been murdered by thugs the following morning. Naturally, it crushed our hearts, but ever since that day, I've changed from the lovely child I once was to the heartless one who plotted to exact revenge. "I promised to avenge their names and legacies and to make the murderer's family and themselves wretched." "So I did exactly that. Before moving on to my next plan, I sent the bodyguards to find out who that b***h boy was and his family. In less than three minutes, I discovered their information, but not his family's. "He stole more than ten thousand from us, which isn't too bad because we had more money in our bank." "However, money is money." When I realized how dreadful he is, I decided to execute them immediately instead of continuing with my original plan, which was to humiliate them and give them bad luck. "I employed a hitman from the deep web who was highly rated for the position." "I met with him to go over his remuneration and how much I would pay him for the job; the total amount was three hundred and fifty thousand dollars." I didn't care how much I had to pay; all I cared about was seeing this man assassinated. He brought me the evidence after killing him, and I sent the bodyguards to pay him the money I had promised within a day or so." Ever since then, I haven't seen him until two days ago. "The feds were after me, and it seems that when his family learned that he had died, they reported their suspicions of me. I can see why considering that I might have threatened his family with death. I was able to escape with my bodyguards before they could even grab me. They don't know I'm in the mansion, so even though they might smash down the door at this very moment, I needed a lawyer, and others had recommended you since you do a great job at it," I explained. Souline was shocked, as seen by her demeanor. I turned to look at Alliana, but she didn't seem to be phased. Kai turned to Souline and asked, "Uh, are you okay?" Souline added, "It's a lot to take in, but I'm extremely sad about your loss." "Thank you," I said. "It's a lot to take in, but it's not as horrible as I imagined it would be," Alliana said. "I do have some questions," Souline said. "Ask ahead," I told her. "How did they locate the assassin?" Souline asked. "It's possible they tracked the weapon he used to kill the man back to him after finding it," I said. "It's kind of moronic for a professional hitman to leave his weapon just so he can be tracked down," Alliana said. "I'm only telling you what I know," I explained. "I'm just telling you it's quite skeptical," Alliana said. I chuckled, not saying anything to her, but her attitude was testing me. "Anyway, Souline, keep going," I said. "Did they apprehend the assassin?" Souline questioned. "I suppose so," I said. "That might be an issue," Alliana speculated. "What do you mean?" I asked, and my brow furrowed. "The hitman could fess up to everything and admit that you paid him to kill the guy," Alliana explained. "What is the significance of this?" "Regardless, I'm still going to jail," I said. "It doesn't matter; you can get more years and a higher bail," Alliana explained. I sighed; this girl is irritating. "So, Ms. Mercedes, what do you think we should do?" I asked. "I recommend you gather intelligence and blackmail him just in case," Alliana advised. I started shaking my legs beneath the table. "See, this isn't going to work out," I admitted. Souline and Alliana furrowed their brows as they stared at me. "Excuse me?" Alliana asked. "You heard me; I don't like your suggestions," I declared emphatically. Alliana chuckled as she stood up. "What a pity. "I flew from Ontario to Italy to assist a mafia with his dubious legal case, only to find out he refuses to cooperate with me," Alliana stated. Along with Kai and Souline, I stood up. "Oh, sweetheart, this was just a meet to see if you're a great replacement, which unfortunately you don't qualify for," I clarified. "Thank the lords, I don't fit your shitty requirements, so I don't have to work with someone with horrendous bodyguards and a narcissistic mafia," Alliana said as she grabbed her files. "Get out of my mansion!" I hissed. "You don't need to tell me twice, you twit," Alliana said. Souline followed Alliana out of the conference room. "Don't ever show your face here!" I yelled, furiously following them. "I wouldn't want to show my face here anyway while being around self-centered rodents," Alliana said as she entered her still-parked Uber. "Shut the f**k up," I said as I slammed the door shut. "What the hell is her problem?" I asked while massaging my temples. "I believe that the issue was you," Kai said. "What exactly are you talking about?" I asked. "You were being a dickhead to Alliana when all she was attempting to do was help," Kai explained. "By being intelligent and having an attitude?" I asked. "I mean, you give AJ, Vex, and Denzel an attitude too when they're trying to help sometimes, and that's what she was trying to do in this case," Kai explained. I shook my head. "Well, we'd have to find a new lawyer because I will not be working with her," I explained. "I'm afraid that's a little late," a familiar voice said. I furrowed my brow and turned around to see the feds, but this time there were more cops. "Mr. Romano, your time is up; you're under arrest for murder."
