Chapter nineteen - Going out with friends

2463 Words
Layla's POV: Jayden invited me to go to his game. I don't think I have ever watched a game since I came to this school. Let's say that football is not my thing. Maybe I have been to one. It was years ago, so I don't remember. Now things are different, and I have to go. Honestly, I would love to support him. Even if he is not the captain, that doesn't mean I won't be there, cheering for him. I can go with Maddie. Well, if she will go to the game. I don't know what is going on between her and Evan, but they seem close. It's not like I mind. Evan needs to find a girlfriend. Somehow, even single, he was always occupied. I have to say that thanks to him and Jayden, I became a more open person. I'm trying not to disappoint my boyfriend. I might not be the perfect girlfriend, but I don't want to embarrass him. Let's hope that there won't be any drama at the game. I mean the cheerleaders. They don't like me, and I expect to receive many comments. Honestly, I don't know what their problem is. I have a disease, but that doesn't mean they can make fun of me for that. I know I'm not pretty, but I don't even put effort into this. The thing is that no matter what I do, someone will always tell me what I don't want to hear. At least I have some people on my side. Otherwise, I don't know what I will do. It's not the end of the world, but I don't appreciate it when people talk like that. The same is for Jayden. Nate and the team are making fun of him because he is with me. I didn't make him date me. That was his choice, and I'm glad that he made it. I could've said no, but I didn't. The chances of finding someone like him are not high. I hope that the game will go well. I don't need more drama. Today is Friday. That means I have to go to Jayden's game. Honestly, I never told him if I would go for sure. Let's say that I wanted to surprise him. I don't care if people will make fun of me or not. I want to be there and support my boyfriend. It will be amazing if he wins the game, but that is not the most important thing. All I want is for him to have fun. Currently, I have a lunch break. I went to change my books for the next class. Jayden texted me to wait for him. As always, he wants us to have lunch together. I won't lie. Lately, he got distant from the team. I don't know if it's because of me or if there is another reason. It's better if I don't ask. That is not my business. Soon, my boyfriend came, and we went for lunch. Evan was sitting with Maddie again. - Hey, guys. - I said - Hello to you too, miss Harris. - Evan said - Very funny. - I won't deny it. - Jayden said - What? - I'm kidding. - he said and kissed my cheek - I hope so. - Hey, I will only do what you want. - Thanks. Are you free this afternoon? We can go out. If not, we can do it during the night. - I can't. - Why? - Because I have a game today. - Was it today? I'm sorry. I forgot. - It's ok. - he said with a sad tone I know I shouldn't play with him like that, but I want to surprise him. I'm sure that he will be happy to see me there. I pulled out my phone and texted Evan. He will understand why I am acting like that. - I hope you know what you are doing. - Evan said - I do. - Am I missing something? - Jayden asked - No, everything is fine. - If you say so. - Don't be sad. I don't like to see you like that. - I'm not sad. - Your eyes tell me other. Did I do something? - No, you didn't do anything. Don't worry. - At what time is your game? - It's at 5 pm. Later the boys and I will go somewhere. Nate will probably decide this. - You don't look like you want to go. - I'm just not in the mood. - Can I make you feel better? - I'll be fine. After school, Maddie and I walked home. Jayden and Evan have practice. I feel horrible for how I played my boyfriend, but I know that my appearance at the game will fix his mood. I took Maddie to my room, and we sat on the bed. I want to know what is going on between her and Evan. It's visible that they don't want to play it friendly. - You have a nice room. - Thanks. Now, the real reason why we are here. - Which is? - What is going on between you and Evan? - Nothing. We are friends. Let's say that I like to annoy him. - Then why did you hook up with him at the party? - What? I didn't do that. - Maddie, you don't have to lie. Jayden and I saw you. - I'm not lying. I don't know who the girl was, but it wasn't me. I didn't kiss anyone at the party. Are you sure that you saw Evan? - I think so. The boy looked like him a lot. - That doesn't mean it was Evan. - Maybe I saw someone else. - That's closer to the truth. So, are you ready for the game? - Yes. I know I won't be everyone's favorite, but I want to be there and support Jayden. - You are a good girlfriend. - I'm trying my best. Maddie and I talked until it was time for us to get ready for the game. When we finished, both of us walked out. We went to the field, which was full of people. I didn't know that people like to watch football so much. Maddie pointed at two free places on the third row. I looked up and saw Jayden looking at his phone. I pulled mine as well. Hey, I hope you win the game. I will cheer for you and scream your name. I love you. With that, he looked up and saw me. I saw a big smile on his face. I will never get tired of this. His smile makes me happy. It means that I did something good. I thought that you wouldn't come. I will never disappoint you. Let's say that I wanted to surprise you. You did, for sure. Look, I have to go now. I love you. See you later. I love you too. The game was almost two hours. The other team was good too, but not as much as ours. That's why we won the game. While the boys were cheering on the field, Jayden came up to me. - I'm glad that you came. - For you always. - I said, and Jayden kissed me - What do you want us to do now? I am all yours. - The boys and I will go out. I would like it if you could come with me. - No problem. All of us went to one diner. I guess that restaurants are not for us. It's not like I mind. Honestly, I will go to a restaurant only with Jayden. Well, I mean our restaurant. The cheerleaders were with us as well. Evan took Maddie. We sat at one big table, and Jayden pulled me for a hug. I won't deny snuggling for a bit. - Why are you so skinny? - Ashley asked me - Seriously. Leave her alone. - Jayden said - Man, relax. It's just a question. - Nate said - Congratulation on the game, boys. - I said - No need to congratulate us. No one can beat us. - You are the best player on the team. - Ashley said - In your dreams. - I mumbled to myself - What? - Nothing. - Nice one, babe. - Jayden whispered - Will you tell us how did you become so skinny? I want to look like that. - Trust me, you don't. Also, I don't want to talk about this. - I have told you that if you look like her, I'm breaking up with you. - Nate said - Why? She looks nice. - I won't argue with you. - Well, except for the fact that you can see her ribs. - she said and laughed - Will you stop talking sh*t about her? - Jayden asked, madly - I don't know why you are mad. That is the truth. Soon, our food came. Everyone started eating. I could've ordered more, but I decided to be myself. Some of the cheerleaders looked at me. I know what they will say. - Is this enough food for you? - Yes, it is. Unlike you, I take care of my body. - I said, and Jayden chuckled - No wonder why you are skinny. You don't even look like a human anymore. - Nate said - I don't know why this is bothering you. I'm not dating you. - But you are with us, which is enough. I won't lie that this made me think. Honestly, I never thought that I would be with these people. Maddie and Evan are ok. They are my friends. The others are people who I don't want as friends. I don't even know what I am doing here. I came only because of Jayden. Maybe it was a mistake. As I see, these people won't leave me alone. I know they do it on purpose, but it's not funny. I ordered a piece of cake. It was too much for me, but it looked delicious. Soon my stomach started giving me signals. - Hey, are you ok? - Maddie asked - Yes, I'm fine. I will go to the bathroom. I quickly walked there and threw out all the food. That was for my dinner. Lately, I have started getting hungry more often. Well, I don't eat much. That is not a surprise for me. The problem is that I can't eat much. I washed my face and went back to the table. - Is everything ok? You look a bit pale. - I'm fine, Maddie. Thanks for asking. - Everything? - Jayden asked Since he knows everything about me, one word is enough for Jayden to understand what is going on. I only nodded my head. He pulled me close for a hug. I wonder when this will be over. I am getting tired. - How do you feel? - Jayden asked, whispering - I'm fine. You don't have to worry. - Are you sure? - Yes, I am. - Why do you look so pale? Are you sick? - one of the cheerleaders asked - Why don't you mind your own business? - I'm just asking. You don't need to be such a brat. - Maybe I want to be one. Just like you. - Excuse me. Watch your mouth, missy. The girls kept asking me questions. Later, I went to the bathroom. Well, that's what I told Jayden. The truth is that I want to go home. I can't stay here anymore. They make me feel uncomfortable. I don't know what is funny about bringing someone down. I texted my boyfriend to let him know where I was. Otherwise, he will get worried. Hey, I wanted to tell you that I am going home. I'm sorry, but I can't stay here anymore. All these questions make me feel uncomfortable. I came here only for you. I hope that I didn't disappoint you. I love you. Luckily, I had only my phone. I left ten dollars for my food to the cashier and walked out. Finally, I can breathe some fresh air. I walked home and saw my parents in the kitchen. I guess that they have a late-night snack. - Layla, what are you doing here? Weren't you supposed to be with friends? Where is Jayden? - I don't want to talk about this. - I said and walked into my room Mom and dad tried to talk with me, but I didn't tell them anything. Soon, there was a knock on my door, and Jayden walked in. He looked worried. I didn't tell him anything and nodded my head. - Why didn't you tell me? I could've taken you home. - I didn't want to ruin your night. - You won't ruin it. Also, I didn't find it funny the way they treated you. Especially the cheerleaders. - I'm sorry. - For what? You didn't do anything wrong. - I disappointed you again. - Layla, you didn't disappoint me. For you, it's impossible to do that. If there is a problem, I want you to tell me. I can't read minds. That's why I want you to share it with me. Do we have a deal? - Maybe. - Layla. - Ok, fine. The next time I will tell you. I promise. - Good. - Do we have to be worried? - mom asked - No, everything is fine, miss Martin. The problem is solved. - I'm glad to hear that. We'll be downstairs if you need anything. - Ok, no problem. - I said - Do you want me to stay here for the night? Will this make you feel better? - You don't have to worry about me. - But I want to do it. I want to be worried and in protective mode all the time. - Jayden said, chuckling - Fine, you can stay here. I hope that dad won't mind. - I can deal with him. Jayden and I talked until bedtime. It feels good to have someone by your side, no matter if he is your boyfriend or friend. I don't know why everything happened, but I'm glad I met my boyfriend. He is one of the few boys in school who knows how to treat one girl right. I always will be thankful for everything that he has done for me. What I can do is not care about what other people say about me. It's not easy, but I have to do it. I owe it to Jayden. I hope that I will be able to do it. That is all that I want, nothing else.
