Chapter 21
Daniel immediately jumped up and rushed to my side and I wondered how he could’ve moved so fast. His arms were outstretched, ready to catch me if I fell.
“Are you alright?”
He was willing to help in any way he could; Malvolio wouldn’t have left his seat.
“Yes...” What could I tell him? I just couldn’t tell him I had broken ribs. I’d said too much already. I didn’t even know him. “I — ah — twisted my ankle as I stood up.”
Another lie, but it was bad enough that he’d seen the black eye. And he was just some guy I’d just met that worked here on the station.
As soon as that thought entered my brain, I knew I needed a mental slap in the face. He was more than just a guy that worked here.
I had to be more careful so I wouldn’t have to keep lying.
