Chapter 18Mars bent a twig to prevent it from hitting him in the face. Rei had shifted into jaguar as soon as they’d parked the car. It made communication harder but seeing the powerful animal prowl through the dark always amazed Mars.
“Can you scent anything? I can’t see anything.” He kept his voice low. He didn’t think there was anybody around, but shifters had good hearing.
Rei shook his head.
“Let’s move on to the next place.” Mars picked up his phone and checked the map. “Northeast, over on the other side of the road.” He tilted the phone so Rei could see the screen. Once he gave a short nod, Mars pocketed it and ran. Rei couldn’t run as fast as he could, so he made sure to keep a pace Rei could match.
