The window remains open—and within that margin, the first case is registered.

The corridor did not announce itself.

It matched the rest of the building in width, lighting, and silence. No signage marked a transition. No access point suggested restriction. People passed through it without hesitation, carrying folders, devices, unfinished thoughts. Nothing in their movement indicated they had entered a space of consequence.

Inside, the environment remained unchanged. The air was regulated to the same standard. The floor reflected the same neutral sheen. Only the absence of personalization distinguished the area—no photographs, no reminders of tenure, no artifacts of presence.

It contained no names. Only identifiers, each paired with marginal values: response delays measured in milliseconds, task completion curves flattened by fractions of a percent, predictive confidence reduced within acceptable variance. None exceeded tolerance. None required escalation.

The list was processed in sequence.

Each identifier triggered a set of adjustments. Forecast models recalibrated. Priority weights shifted by imperceptible degrees. Access pathways remained intact, though their frequency of appearance was revised. No entry was marked urgent. No annotation suggested concern.

This was not review.

It was alignment.

Once updated, each record returned to circulation. The subjects continued their routines unaware of revision. Messages arrived as expected. Work progressed. Outcomes remained reasonable. There was no moment at which change could be identified as having occurred.

The system logged completion.

The file was archived under standard parameters, indistinguishable from thousands processed before it. Nothing in the record suggested consequence.

Outside the corridor, traffic continued uninterrupted.
