Chapter 2 - The Meeting

Kira's POV     I awoke to the morning sun shining through my blinds, the birds singing, and all I could think was "Why the hell does life hate me?" I groaned and rolled of the edge of my landing on the balls of my feet. I had absolutely no energy left after last night. I was a dead man walking "Hah good one Kira"  I chuckled knowing I had probably gone insane from lack of sleep. The High Hunter was going to have fun with my shitty I-didn't-get-any-sleep-last-night attitude.     I threw my purple comforter back onto my bed and trudged across the cream colored carpet to my bathroom. I grabbed a towel from the glass cabinets and set it on the sink before getting into the shower. Turning the water on practically boiling hot in order to try and wake myself up enough to function today. I groaned as the water hit my skin working the stiff muscles since I didn't stretch them out after I got back last night. I then let myself drift off into dreamland as I showered.      Today I had a meeting with King Alexander, and the High Hunter. Both wanted to know if I had found the traitor and what I had done with him. The High Hunter was a whole different topic for me... While no one was supposed to know our identities I knew his and he knew mine. Just as our immediate families knew them also. His name was Joshua Enero and he was my betrothed.      The marriage was arranged by Astefan when both of us first came to Reign 11 years ago. The reason Astefan decided to marry us was because while he was immortal Joshua and I were not. Eventually we would grow old and unfit for our duty. So he decided to in a way I guess you could call it "breed us", but it was just that Joshua and I had to bear at least 1 male and 1 female child. I couldn't really imagine marrying Joshua as we had been more of best friends ever since we'd met.      With a sigh I turned and shut off the water, wrapped a towel around myself, and walked up to my vanity. I picked up a brush and began to untangle my waist-length brunette hair. My looks came from my Dad's side of the family, they all had brunette locks with just a slight wave, icy blue eyes, button noses, and rosy tan skin. Unfortunately I got my mother's height as most of her family were midgets. Both of them were still alive and living in Lusnayin they were on the Council of Elders. Each tribe in Dorlonia had their own mini government that still answered to Astefan. Elders were elected once they met certain requirements such as age and experience.     I glanced at my phone and cursed. "I'm going to be so f*****g late" I thought as I groaned in annoyance. I wasn't a punctual person in the first place much to both my betrothed, and superior's annoyance. I had no sense of time basically and had never been early in my life. I jogged over to my walk in closet and opened the barn style doors. I smirked as I walked in. If there was one thing I had a good sense of it was fashion. I wasn't your snotty, rich, girly girl, but I did appreciate my clothes. I pulled out  some lacy white underwear, a white crop top, a pair of black ripped skinny jeans, a pair of black ankle boots with gold buckles, and my favorite black leather jacket. I quickly swiped on some black eyeliner to make my blues eyes pop, and some dark red lipstick. Finally, I plaited my dark locks into a long braid down my back so I wouldn't have to mess with my hair dryer, and I was off at a sprint for the Diamond Palace.     I arrived at the Diamond Palace about 30 minutes later, and just like it did 11 years ago this place still took my breath away. I stopped for a moment to marvel at the beautiful, and I have to admit very gaudy architecture. The Palace was made of Glass Stone. A material that look like glass, but was basically impenetrable. You also couldn't see inside the palace from the outside so it was like a one-way window. The Palace itself had 12 different levels all made of different styles and colors of Glass Stone. It was beautiful to say the least and I would spend my whole day studying it if I could, but as of right now I didn't have time.     I jogged up the stairs that led to the 20 foot tall french doors leading into the castle only to be greeted by two guards that stood in front of me. They were dressed in articulate red and gold armor. Red and Gold were the colors of Dorlonia, I didn't know what they stood for just that they were our colors. The male guards both a gave me a slight nod of head before easing the palace doors open. Everyone in Dorlonia thought that myself,Kira Brianne Hathoway, was a private investigator that worked closely with Alexander Astefan. Most didn't take me very seriously as I was only 29 which was consider young to be a PI. Most also thought I was ignoring and disrespecting my tribe. I had tribal tattoos that spoke of my Dark Moon heritage, and accomplishments. Most people of Dark Moon were warriors, and didn't do much else. If they knew who I truly was I'd make them eat their words.      "Ah Ms. Hathoway!", Astefan's head of staff, or butler, Jentry blustered once I got inside. Jentry was a short balding man, with thick eyebrows, and a thick mustache. His hazel eyes scrutinized me and looked me over for anything that could mess up the castle's immaculate, and pristine interior. The last time I'd brought mud onto the white tile floors I thought the poor old man was going to have a heart attack.     "Nothing to worry about Jentry, I cleaned my boots before I came" I said with a polite smile. Making him grin slightly to himself.     "I'm glad to see I didn't have to remind you", he said sighing before continuing, "Your partner on the other hand..."     "Is a dirty pig and needs to be reprimanded?" I exclaimed in horror winking causing Jentry to chuckle slightly.      "He just needs to learn how hard I work to keep this place pristine, and in tip top shape" Jentry grumbled wiping his thin round glasses off with a handkerchief.      "And what a wonderful job you are doing Jentry!" I smiled putting my hands on my hips.      "You're too kind young lady" He said bashfully, but with a prideful gleam in his eye.     I studied him for a minute before deciding it was probably time to meet my men. "I have a meeting with King Alexander today Jentry, would you mind telling me where I am supposed to meet him?" I questioned with a finger on my chin.      "Of course, of course!", he exclaimed happily, "Mr. Enero, and King Alexander are in the study. Do you remember where that is?"     "Of course thank you Jentry! I hope you have a good day" I said before turning by back to him and the door, whilst heading for the elevator.      "You too Ms. Hathoway have a lovely day!" He called before bustling off probably to find some servants to mop the floor.      I walked to the glass elevator that was at the end of the hall, entered it, and pressed the button for the fifth floor. I pulled out my phone whilst riding and saw that I had one unread message from my sister Kierstan.      "Just so you know Adri and I will be in Reign for the week. I know Adrien is looking forward to seeing his favorite Aunt. I hope we can get to together sometime!"     Keirstan was my little sister by five years. She stilled lived up in the mountains in Lusnayin with her son, Adrien. Adrien was bastard born and that was looked down upon in my tribe. So when she first had him five years ago she had come to stay with me exiled from the tribe. After about a year my parents, and I convinced the tribe to welcome her back. I'd been surprised when she went back to Lusnayin, but she had only said that Lusnayin was her true home and no one was going to scare her away. I could't wait to see her and Adrien. We'd definitely have to get together soon.      With a ding the elevator opened revealing a beautiful maroon color hallway with portraits of the former rulings families on the walls. I walked past about 4 doors before I came to the one I was looking for. It was a door made out of chestnut wood with a solid gold handle. I knocked thrice and waited outside. The door opened about thirty seconds later with my betrothed standing on the helm. He beckoned me inside and I followed him easily.      The office itself had the same maroon walls as the hall with some gold accents and a fireplace which heated the room. Alexander's family portrait hung on the wall with bookshelves and regular shelves holding trinkets. The desk was made out of the same wood as the door with papers, a pen, and a glass ink jar on it. Also on the desk a golden crown inlaid with blood colored rubies. It belonged to Alexander so I'm guessing he was sitting in the high backed chair that was facing the portrait on the far wall.      "Glad to see you decided to join us Kira" a deep voice pulled me out of my trance. I looked to the left towards the fireplace with a smirk on my face. My betrothed himself was standing against the mantle of the fireplace with his arms crossed across his chest. His was a tall man standing at about 6'0, his brown eyes staring at me disapprovingly, his brown dreadlocks were pulled into a neat bun at the back of his head, and his cocoa brown skin glowed with a golden light from the fire.      "What can I say I love to be fashionably late Joshie" I purred giving him a choice look of my own. He just rolled his eyes and scoffed slightly. With a creak the chair in behind the desk turned revealing the man of the hour. Alexander Astefan     "Joshua isn't wrong Ms. Hathoway we were expecting you 30 minutes ago" He purred softly giving me a dangerous look. This man had been alive for over 200 years, he'd definitely perfected the death glare by now. This was the man the subjects called the Golden King of the Golden Era. I didn't blame them. He had a golden complexion, blonde hair that glowed in the firelight, and enchanting golden eyes. He stood at a fair height of 5'11 just a tad shorter than Joshua. The called him that because they believed this was the man who would finally end the Demon war.      "I got held up it wasn't my intention" I answered crossing my arms over my chest. "Yeah caught up with your bed" I thought to myself mentally scowling. Hopefully today's meeting would go fast I really did want to get home, and nap.      "Well Ms. Hathoway then please enlighten me. What exactly occurred last night?" He questioned me with doubt, but I didn't miss the curiosity that sparked in his eyes. I rolled my eyes at the inquisition while Joshua just perched nonchalantly by the fireplace.      I proceeded to inform both of them about what happened with Igor, Lord Jaconis, and the Demon. Both of them just watched, and listened not interrupting. I finished about 10 minutes later by setting Lord Jaconis's necklace on Alexander's desk along with the Demon's title card. Astefan turned and sighed running a hand through his blond locks. I knew the feeling, we had all trusted Lord Jaconis, and in the end he had betrayed us.      Joshua prowled to the center of the room before directing his attention, and questions to Alexander. "What are you going to do about Lady Jaconis and his children?" He questioned with a fire igniting in his eyes. I knew Joshua had grown up with an abusive father, so I knew this would be a tough subject for him. Astefan seemed to consider Joshua's silent request before turning back to us both.     "She will be stripped of her title, and assests, I will leave her with their country manor in order to have a roof over the children's head" He answered nonchalantly with his arms crossed. I could see by Joshua's face that he didn't like it, but I knew that he wouldn't argue with it.      "I'm being merciful, and you know that Joshua so wipe that look off your face" Alexander growled studying Joshua. I watched Joshua take a deep breath and school his features into a look of neutrality. Astefan was right, he was being merciful to Lady Jaconis. That country manor could keep them alive for a long while.      Trying to ease the tension in the room I decided to change the subject. "Do you have any other missions for us My King?" I asked trying to seem as neutral as possible. Astefan took a deep breath seeming to collect himself. Causing for both Joshua and I to stare at him in confusion.          "Yes actually I do" He said shrugging as he adjusted his papers. He fidgeted a bit more. "What the hell is he planning?" I thought to myself in confusion.      "I want you two to do something that could potentially help end this war" He added crossing his arms. A nervous habit of his that unless you were well trained in reading emotions you wouldn't catch it. Being trained as a Huntress and in emotions. I had caught on to that tick of his many years ago. Usually it wouldn't worry me, but something about this seemed different.     "I want you two to hunt down the Morei Brother's" He answered staring us both down. I heard Joshua suck in a breath and he looked absolutely horrified. I figured my face was set in the same emotions but only one thing ran through my head repeatedly.      "I want you two to hunt down the Morei Brother's"      "I want you two to hunt down the Morei Brother's"      "I want you two to hunt down the Morei Brother's"      "I want you two to hunt down the Morei Brother's"     3rd Person POV     The red headed female, and the male with the royal blue hair walked hand in hand down the streets of Reign. Enjoying each other's company after just finishing a movie they walked going to get ice cream. It wasn't often that either of them could come to Reign and explore so today was a special treat. The woman looked up to the man and gave him a loving glance just before she rammed right into a small body.     "Oh my goodness are you ok baby!?" The woman yelped noticing the small brown haired boy staring up at her. He studied her softly before a woman came sprinting up with a babe on her hip.     "I'm so sorry Miss, my Edmond must fallen behind" The woman said exhaustedly while shifting the babe to her other hip. The couple studied the small family noticing the woman had several bags with her and the little boy was carrying several too.      "Would you like some help carrying those bags Ma'am?" The blue haired man asked.      "No I couldn't ask that of you," She answered before explaining, "it would ruin your reputation to even be seen with me." Both the male and female shared a look of confusion between them trying to figure out who the blond woman was.     "And why exactly would it hurt to help?" The red head questioned gently. Trying hard not to upset the woman more than she obviously was already.     "My husband is the late Lord Jaconis" she sighed. Both the red head and blue haired shot each other looks of surprise and confusion. "What an interesting development" they thought.      "He was convicted of treason and killed by the King's High Huntress along with a Demon" She said forlornly looking as if she was about to cry. The Blue haired man screwed his face into a look of sympathy, but on the inside he was pissed. This would not go over well at the meeting later. Enscribos had been a flawless messenger, and the last thing he need was to find someone new he could trust.      "Well we're so sorry for your loss" The red head said with sympathy. The blue hair male sighed softly he was blessed to of found this woman after so long, and how well she had taken to him. He couldn't imagine live without her now, but the last thing he needed was her getting to tied up in his past, present, and future. Though that was basically impossible he couldn't keep secrets from her.      "Thank you now I must be going", she said switching the babe yet again, "come Edmond if we want to make it to the inn by nightfall. She was a true mother at heart watching out for her two children. She quickly vanished into the bustling streets with her two children making her way to whatever inn she was going to.      "What are we going to do?" the red head asked sighing in annoyance. The blue haired male just shook his head. One of his friend's would probably be making a trip to town tomorrow. They would have to retrieve that body.     "It doesn't matter baby. It doesn't concern either of us. Let's just go home" He purred kissing her forehead. She harrumphed obviously not believing him, but melted into his touch like always anyways. It brought a smile to his face to know he had her heart. They both joined hands before disappearing into the busy streets.
