The tension between them began to grow. The moments they shared felt electric—charged with something neither of them could name.
One afternoon, after a particularly heated conversation about the meaning of life, Lucian stopped suddenly as they were leaving the library.
"Come with me," he said abruptly, his voice low and urgent.
Aeris froze, surprised by the intensity in his tone. "Where?"
Lucian didn’t answer. He simply turned and began walking toward the back of the school grounds, his footsteps quick and determined. Aeris followed him, her heart pounding in her chest. There was something in his expression that made her hesitate, but at the same time, she couldn’t resist.
When they reached the edge of the schoolyard, Lucian stopped and turned to face her. The air was thick with tension, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows across the ground.
"I need to show you something," he said, his voice almost a whisper.
Aeris didn’t know why she followed him, but she did. They crossed a small path behind the school and reached a hidden, overgrown area that few students knew about. Lucian stopped at a small, rusted door hidden behind a thick wall of ivy.
"This is where I come when I need to think," he said, his voice strangely distant. "It’s a place where no one can find me."
Aeris frowned. "Why are you showing me this?"
Lucian’s gaze met hers, and for the first time, she saw something vulnerable in his eyes. "Because you’re different, Aeris. You see things that others don’t. And I trust you."
His words hung in the air like a challenge. Aeris didn’t know what to say. Lucian had always been a mystery, but now she was starting to see that there was much more to him than she had ever imagined.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed from inside the abandoned room. Aeris jumped back, heart racing. Lucian’s eyes darkened. He grabbed her arm and pulled her closer to him.
"We need to go," he muttered, his grip tight.
But before they could leave, a shadow moved in the doorway. The unmistakable shape of a figure loomed before them. Lucian’s grip on Aeris tightened as he took a step back.
"Aeris, go home. Now."
She could hear the urgency in his voice, but she couldn’t move. The figure in the doorway stepped forward, revealing the face of someone she didn’t recognize—someone with cold, calculating eyes.
Lucian’s face hardened as he stepped in front of her. "Stay behind me," he whispered.
