Chapter 1: First Light

Aeris Valeria, a quiet and rule-abiding high school student, begins her first day of a new school year with little expectation for excitement. She prefers to stay in the background, focused on her studies and avoiding unnecessary attention. However, everything changes when she meets Lucian Reyes, a mysterious transfer student with an unreadable expression and an aura that immediately sets him apart from the rest.

As their eyes briefly meet for the first time, Aeris feels something unfamiliar—a shift, a curiosity she can't explain. Though she quickly looks away, she can’t shake the feeling that Lucian’s presence will alter the course of her life in ways she never imagined.

This chapter sets the stage for Aeris’s transformation, hinting at the deep and possibly life-changing connection she will form with Lucian.

Chapter 1: First Light
The first day of high school felt like the beginning of something new—like the world had cracked open and revealed endless possibilities. Aeris Valeria, a quiet and gentle girl, had always walked in the shadow of routine, never daring to step beyond the boundaries of her safe world. At sixteen, she wasn’t the type to stand out. Her dark brown hair always fell neatly past her shoulders, and her deep, thoughtful eyes often stayed focused on books rather than people. She had always believed that life was best lived simply—following the rules, avoiding risks, and staying in the comfort of familiar things. But all of that was about to change. The morning sun filtered through the towering windows of the school building as students bustled through the halls. Aeris clutched her books to her chest, moving carefully between the chaos of excited voices and hurried footsteps. “Valeria!” a familiar voice called. She turned to see Mia, her best friend since childhood, rushing toward her with an excited grin. “Guess what? There’s a transfer student in our class! And he’s—” She wiggled her eyebrows mischievously. “Well, let’s just say, I think this year is going to be interesting.” Aeris chuckled softly. “You always say that every year.” “Yeah, but this time, I mean it.” As they entered their classroom, the teacher was already at the front, introducing a tall boy with a sharp gaze and an air of quiet confidence. “This is Lucian Reyes,” the teacher announced. “He transferred from another city. Please make him feel welcome.” Lucian’s dark eyes scanned the room, but instead of the cocky smirk that most boys wore when they knew they were good-looking, he seemed indifferent. Almost bored. Aeris felt something strange stir inside her as their eyes briefly met. It wasn’t love at first sight—it was something deeper, something she couldn’t quite name. And that was the moment her life began to change. Aeris quickly looked away, her heart skipping a beat for reasons she couldn’t explain. Lucian Reyes wasn’t like the other boys in school. There was something unreadable in his dark eyes, something distant yet intense. As he moved to take an empty seat near the back, the girls in class exchanged excited whispers. Mia nudged Aeris playfully. “You see that? The entire class is already in love with him,” Mia whispered. Aeris shook her head, trying to suppress a smile. “You’re exaggerating.” “Am I?” Mia teased. “Don’t tell me you didn’t feel something when he looked at you.” Aeris didn’t answer. She wasn’t the type to dwell on things like that. She preferred to focus on what mattered—grades, books, and staying out of trouble. But something about Lucian felt different.
