Chapter 6

1570 Words
Today was the first day in a while that I didn't have to clean anything, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a negative thing. Alpha Pyro and Luna Jade said their farewells to Alpha Gunner and his beta as soon as the meal was finished. It was half past eight, and this was the typical time for them to turn in for the night. I guess there is no fun in getting older. I will excuse myself now and proceed to the exit. My thoughts were all over the place. As an omega, I am aware that I do not possess free will. I have no choice but to accompany Alpha Gunner if Alpha Pyro has handed me over to him. But at the very least, might I bring Mama along? She is getting on in years, and I don't feel comfortable leaving her by herself. I kept my pace up and walked as quickly as I could. My thoughts keep going back to the events that are about to take place tonight. What would Mother make of this? Since she was aware of the guidelines, it cannot be said that she had any input into the matter at hand, which is the source of my concern. She is going to develop major depression. "Slow down, woman. You are walking much too quickly." I was aware of the sound of footsteps approaching from behind me, but I did not pay attention to them for the simple reason that nothing makes sense to me. I glanced behind me and saw Gunner, but I quickly turned my head and focused on what was going on in front of me. "You should have told me." "Told you what?" I was afraid that the way I expressed myself might come off as offensive to him, but he seems to be okay with it. "That you wanted me to be a part of your pack," I said. "Just so you're aware, I don't engage in s****l favors of any kind. Both housekeeping and cooking are areas in which I excel. I have no other use besides those." I didn't bother to turn around and look at him again as I continued walking without stopping. "Who told you that you're going to be doing s****l favors for me? Who said that?" Instantaneously, I came to a stop and turned to face him. "What?" I was perplexed for a brief moment. "I thought—" It's possible that I was giving too much thought to things. "Nevermind." I rubbed my head in confusion. "Would you be willing to let me pay a visit to Mama on my days off?" Gunner wore a frown. "You are free to pay her a visit whenever you choose." Simply put, she is unable to go with us at this time. I have to make preparations for her still." "Really?" After hearing it, I felt such overwhelming happiness that I had to give him a hug. "You're welcome!" When he put his arms around me, I felt electric shocks, so I quickly removed myself from his grasp. "Sorry. It wasn't my intention to act in that manner." He nodded. "It's okay. I believe I could grow used to it." Gunner uses language that isn't always clear, so I usually just ignore what he says. "How far is it from here to your house?" "Just a few more minutes, and we'll arrive at our destination." I smiled at him. "Where's your friend?" "Linc? He's around. He's my beta, by the way." I nodded at him and acknowledged what he said. *** When we were only a few feet away from our house, I looked over and spotted Jasper holding a book. When he saw who I was with, his smile quickly faded away. On the other hand, Gunner dragged me over to his side. That was beyond my comprehension, so I gazed up at him with a puzzled expression on my face. "Who exactly is that?" He asked me, but his attention was clearly on Jasper at the time. When I turned my head to look at Jasper, Gunner pressed me against his chest, which prevented me from looking at him. "What the hell are you doing?" "You had the opportunity to see him earlier. Why is he here? Is he the man you're dating? Cut ties with him right away." I've been asked the same question twice in a row, and I have no idea which one to answer first. I've never felt so annoyed until tonight. Because I am only going to his pack in order to work, I am unable to understand the reason for his possessiveness. We are not even friends. "Jasper is his name, and he is a good friend of mine." "He's a man," said Gunner. I gave him a light shove to get my head free from his grasp. When I looked up at him, I noticed that this time his eyes were on me. "It goes without saying that he is a male. I seriously doubt that he has a pus—" Gunner arched his brow thoughtfully. I swallowed a couple of times. "He is nothing more than a friend. Tonight, in addition to hanging around, we are expected to read a book. But you made plans without notifying me, and now I'm screwed." "He likes you." "What?" I looked at him in confusion. "Your friend likes you. I am also a male, so I am able to verify this information. You should know that it's against the rules for you to like him back." His voice changed, becoming icier and more menacing. I made a wrinkle between my brows. "And let's say I like him; what's going to happen then?" He gritted his teeth, and the pupils of his eyes shrank down to slits. "You wouldn't like to see me mad." I gave him a dirty look and rolled my eyes. "Whatever. Simply put, he is a friend. Because he is such a good person, I would ask that you not prevent me from spending time with him." I tried to get away from him, but he managed to get hold of my hand. "It's not going to fit the situation at all." I stopped moving forward and turned to face him. "You are aware of the fact that you need to refrain from speaking in such a manner. It is driving me absolutely bonkers, and to tell you the truth, there is a more effective approach to communicating with other people. Just come out and admit it, and let's get this over with. "Fine." He stared intently into both of my eyes. "If you want to be my Luna, you need to act like it," he said. My knees were shaking. Did he just say I'm going to be Luna? What? That doesn't make sense. "Alex? Could it be you? Jasper has been wai—" I observed Mama bow her head. "Alpha, how am I able to be of assistance?" "I hope you're having a wonderful evening, Mrs. Martin. I am the Alpha Gunner of the Silvercrown Banes. It would be great if we had a private conversation." Jasper got the message when Mama and I both looked at him and said that he was going to come back later. Gunner responded, "That won't be required at any point." He smirked. "Alex is leaving with me tonight." The expression on Mama's face was identical to that of Jasper's. In the meantime, I'm starting to feel queasy. The name Luna keeps running through my thoughts. Why on earth would Gunner want an Omega for a Luna? "Jasper, I will make sure to get a chance to speak with you before I go." My friend started to leave when I gave him the signal to do so by nodding at him. "That is not going to happen." Gunner hissed at me, but I looked at him like he was crazy instead of responding. I jerked my hand away and quickened my pace to make it inside our tiny house. I overheard Mama apologize to Gunner for the manner in which I had behaved. After they had entered the home and Mama had excused herself, I waited for her to enter her bedroom before confronting Gunner. Once she was inside, I faced him. "Why in the world would you want me for a Luna?" He appeared to be bored. "I believed Omegas fantasized about it. As I look at you and listen to you right now, I don't believe that to be the case." "I am well aware of my role within this pack, Gunner. Even though I have dreams, I have never once imagined myself to be a Luna. So, enlighten me: why are you treating me like this? You can go ahead and choose another omega if you like, but it won't be me." "Are you up for a wager?" When his eyes locked into mine, I felt like I was being pulled into a trance all of a sudden. I could feel his hand on my nape as his lips slammed into mine in an earth-shattering kiss. His lips were crashing into mine. My first kiss was very brief, yet despite its brevity, it was more than enough to throw my heart into a tizzy. I have never been kissed before, and Gunner set the bar high.
