Chapter 5

1010 Words
My entire day has been filled with agitation and restlessness. The thought of Alpha Gunner just won't leave my head. I can't seem to shake it. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm going to have to call in sick tomorrow. If I were to lie to him, would he expect to receive s****l favors from me in return? The sheer thought of that sent chills all the way to my bones. On the other hand, when our eyes met first thing this morning, I had the same weird experience. My romantic fantasies had me wondering if he might be my true love or if we were just meant to be together. He did not go into any further detail regarding his thoughts or sentiments beyond what was stated above. If I had been his, he certainly would have taken ownership of me. There is no question in my mind that he would have yelled 'MATE' aloud. Despite not seeing him over lunch, I was so nervous that I could hardly eat. When Damaris didn't ask me to bring anything to the table, I was relieved. I would rather tire my arms and legs than be there. "What's the matter?" Ida asked. It was at this point that I shook my head. "I'm just a bit worn out. Do you need help with anything?" "Luna Jade asked you to join them in the private dining room for dinner." The invitation came from Luna Jade. My sense was that time itself had halted. I am going to be punished, aren't I? "Do you know why? Are you sure it's me they're referring to?" I can't help but stammer. Ida nodded. "I am pretty sure I heard it right. She said Alexandra Martin. You should wash your face and fix yourself a little before you join them. The Alpha from the other pack would be there too," she said. Exactly at that moment, Damaris entered the room and instructed me to start making preparations for supper. The same thing Ida had stated previously about me cleaning my face and making myself presentable was repeated by her. To my good fortune, I pack an extra shirt in each bag I take with me. In the restroom, I gave myself a face wash and changed my top. I brushed through my hair and redid the ponytail I had previously started. My hair is getting long again. If my mother isn't too worn out, I'm going to ask her if she might give me a fast trim tonight. I stopped briefly to look at myself in the mirror before taking a few deep breaths. I pray that Nanna will guide me at dinner. When I entered the private dining area, I noticed a few Omegas standing along the room's side. Both Alpha Pyro and Luna Jade were seated, and there are three remaining chairs in the room that are vacant. On the table, there were exactly five plates in all, and I am certain that one of them is mine. As I welcomed Alpha and Luna, I dropped my head and said, "Good evening, Alpha. Good evening, Luna." "Alex, take your seat," stated Luna Jade. I was not surprised when none of them bothered to respond to the greeting because I am aware of my status and was prepared for it. I was ready to sit down next to her when she motioned for me to take the seat in the middle. "Thank you, Luna." I will be sitting beside Gunner no matter what, won't I? I would be surprised if I could swallow anything at dinner. I think I'd die from hunger tonight. After what seemed like an eternity, Gunner and his beta finally made their way over to join us, and shortly after that, supper was served. They conversed briefly and discussed several topics, including security and other areas. Then I became aware that he was looking at me. "Is the quality of the dish not to your satisfaction? Did you want something else to eat?" asked Gunner. When I glanced at Luna Jade, I couldn't help but feel embarrassed. I would hate for her to think that she didn't do a good job deciding what to eat for dinner. In spite of the fact that the food is quite tasty, I have a difficult time chewing and swallowing, and it's because Gunner is sitting beside me. "The food is tasty. I just take my time chewing my food." I had considered mentioning that I'm exhausted, but I don't want to get into any trouble with Alpha and Luna. "Okay." After he had finished eating, the next thing I heard was Alpha Pyro asking Gunner if he was going to leave tonight. "Yes, and I'm going to bring her along with me." Her. I sincerely hope that he is not talking about me in that sentence. "I am sure she's excited to leave with you, Alpha Gunner," said Luna Jade. "She would be a wonderful addition to your pack as she has many good qualities. Aren't you, Alex?" I came dangerously close to choking on my dinner. Gunner handed me a glass of water, and I had no choice but to take it. "My apologies, Luna Jade. I am a little confused about this conversation." She put on a phony smile while she softly cleaned her lips with a cloth. "Alpha Gunner has asked for you to join his pack, and you will be traveling with him tonight. I need you to finish packing up your stuff and say your goodbyes to your mother after dinner." I swallowed twice. "Y-Yes Luna Jade." I stammered. Tobermory will no longer be my home, and Mama will be left behind. I had no appetite at all, but I still needed to finish what I was eating, so I forced myself to eat what's left. "I will go with her so that I can also meet her mother," said Gunner. "As you wish, Alpha Gunner." Luna Jade faked another smile and picked up her cup of tea.
