Chapter 1: The Unexpected Proposal
I stared at my boyfriend, Tyler, in disbelief as he led me to his father's opulent office. The lavish decorations and stunning city view seemed to fade into the background as my mind raced with questions. What were we doing here? And why did Tyler look so nervous?
"Hey, babe, just relax," Tyler said, squeezing my hand reassuringly. "My dad wants to talk to us about something important."
As we entered the office, his father, Richard, stood up from behind his massive desk. His piercing blue eyes locked onto mine, and I felt a shiver run down my spine. There was something intimidating about Richard, something that made me feel like I was under a microscope.
"Ava, it's great to finally meet you in person," Richard said, his deep voice commanding attention. "Tyler's told me so much about you."
I forced a smile, trying to hide my unease. "Likewise, Mr. Richardson."
Richard gestured for us to sit, and Tyler pulled me down beside him on the plush couch. The tension in the room was palpable, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
"Ava, Tyler's told me about your plans to attend college in the fall," Richard began, his eyes never leaving mine. "And I must say, I'm impressed. You're a bright young woman with a promising future ahead of you."
I exchanged a confused glance with Tyler. Where was this going?
"But, Ava," Richard continued, his tone turning serious, "I'm afraid I have a proposal that may change your plans. You see, I've been looking for a suitable partner for my business, and I believe you'd be the perfect candidate."
My mind raced as Richard explained his offer: a full scholarship to the college of my choice, a guaranteed internship at his company, and a hefty sum of money to cover living expenses. It sounded too good to be true, but there was a catch – a big one.
"There's just one condition, Ava," Richard said, his eyes glinting with a hint of mischief. "You have to marry me."
The room fell silent. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. Marry Richard? Tyler's father? It was absurd, ridiculous, and yet...
And yet, there was something in Richard's eyes that made me hesitate. A glimmer of sincerity, perhaps, or a hint of desperation. Whatever it was, it made me pause, made me consider the impossible.
Tyler's hand tightened around mine, and I turned to him, searching for answers. But his eyes were just as confused, just as unsure as mine.
"Ava, I –" Tyler began, but his father cut him off.
"Let her think about it, son," Richard said, his voice firm but gentle. "This is a big decision, and Ava needs time to consider her options."
I nodded, still reeling from the shock. Consider her options? Was I really considering marrying Tyler's father? The thought sent a shiver down my spine, but a part of me couldn't deny the thrill of excitement that came with it.
As we left the office, the city lights blurring together outside, I knew that my life was about to take a drastic turn. And I had no idea if I was ready for it.
As we left the office, Tyler's grip on my hand tightened. "Ava, I had no idea he was going to do that," he whispered, his eyes apologetic. "I'm so sorry."
I shook my head, still trying to process the proposal. "It's not your fault, Tyler. I just...I need some time to think."
We walked in silence for a few minutes, the city streets blurring together. Finally, Tyler spoke up. "Ava, can I ask you something?"
"What is it?"
"Do you...do you think you might actually consider his offer?"
I hesitated, unsure of how to respond. A part of me was horrified by the idea of marrying Richard, but another part was tempted by the opportunities he offered. And then there was the nagging feeling that there was more to Richard's proposal than met the eye.
"I don't know, Tyler," I said finally. "I need some time to think about it. Alone."
Tyler nodded understandingly. "Okay, I get it. But promise me one thing: you'll talk to me before making any decisions?"
I nodded, feeling a pang of guilt. "I promise."
As we parted ways, I couldn't shake the feeling that my life was about to change in ways I couldn’t imagine
Richard's***

I watched Ava and Tyler leave my office, my mind racing with thoughts. I had expected her to be surprised, even shocked, by my proposal. But I had not anticipated the flicker of interest in her eyes.
I leaned back in my chair, steepling my fingers together. Ava was a smart and ambitious young woman, and I knew she saw the value in my offer. But I also knew she was hesitant, and with good reason. Marrying a man more than twice her age, a man she barely knew, was a daunting prospect.
But I was willing to do whatever it took to secure my legacy. My business, my empire, was everything to me. And I knew that Ava, with her sharp mind and quick wit, could be a valuable asset in my quest for greatness.
I stood up, walking over to the window to gaze out at the city skyline. I had built my fortune from scratch, and I would stop at nothing to ensure its continued success. Even if it meant marrying a woman young enough to be my daughter.
I turned back to my desk, pressing a button on my intercom. "Jessica, get me the papers drawn up. I want everything ready for Ava's decision."
My assistant's voice came through the speaker. "Yes, sir. And what if she says no?"
I smiled to myself. "She won't say no. I'll make sure of it.
As I walked away from Tyler, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. Richard's proposal had caught me off guard, and I was still trying to process my thoughts. I decided to take a walk in the park to clear my head. The sun was setting, casting a warm orange glow over the lush greenery. I found a quiet bench and sat down, taking a deep breath.
Just as I was starting to gather my thoughts, my phone buzzed. It was a text from Richard. "Ava, I hope you're considering my offer seriously. I believe we could achieve great things together. Let's discuss the details over dinner tonight?" I hesitated, unsure of how to respond. Part of me was curious about what he had in mind, but another part was wary of his intentions.
I hesitated, my thumbs hovering over the keyboard. Something about Richard's message didn't feel right. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but my intuition was screaming at me to be cautious. I decided to play it safe and declined the invitation. "Thank you for the offer, Richard, but I need some more time to think. I'll get back to you soon." I hit send and felt a sense of relief wash over me.
But as I stood up to leave the park, I noticed a black sedan following me. My heart began to race as I quickened my pace. The sedan kept pace with me, its tinted windows reflecting the fading light of day. I felt a shiver run down my spine. Was Richard behind this? And what did he want from me?
My mind racing, I quickly turned onto a busier street, hoping to lose the sedan in the crowd. But it kept following me, its engine purring smoothly. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. Suddenly, the sedan swerved and pulled up alongside me. The window rolled down, revealing Richard's smiling face. "Ava, darling, I didn't mean to frighten you. I just wanted to make sure you're safe." His eyes gleamed with an intensity that made my skin crawl.
I quickened my pace, but he kept pace with me, the sedan crawling along the sidewalk. "Richard, stop it! This isn't funny," I snapped, trying to keep my voice steady. But he just chuckled and continued to shadow me. I felt trapped and scared. Why was he doing this? And what did he want from me?
