Chapter 1 Why Is There a Man Sleeping Beside You?
Where am I?!
This isn't Miller Manor!!
Serena forced her eyes open, only to realize with horror that her limbs were bound to the bed, a rough cloth gag choking her mouth.
She frowned as the scene before her blackout replayed in her mind. Her cousin Emmy, furious after failing to force her to break up with Brett, had revealed the truth—that Serena's mother had been burned alive by Emmy's mother—before knocking her out cold with a brutal strike!
The truth was, Serena had never loved Brett. She'd only agreed to date him, even get engaged, because the Miller patriarch had ordered her to marry him for the family's sake. Having grown up invisible to her grandfather, she'd wanted to prove her worth to the Millers. So she'd said yes.
What good had it done her?
Why... why had they done this to her family?!
Time dragged on until the noise outside finally faded. Serena opened her eyes, numb and cold, waiting for Emmy to show her face.
As expected, half an hour later, the hotel door swung open. Emmy strode in, cheeks glowing with smug satisfaction.
"Well, cousin? You heard everything, didn't you?" She tossed her hair, lips curling in a smirk.
Serena glared.
"Oh right, you can't speak." Emmy dramatically covered her mouth, though her eyes gleamed with malice. "Don't worry. After listening to all that, you must be... aching. What kind of sister would I be if I didn't take care of you? So I hired a few... strapping men to service you later. They'll make sure you're fully pleasured."
"Mmmph!!" Serena writhed against her bonds, but the restraints held firm.
"Tsk. By dawn, the whole world will know you spent the night with multiple men. Let's see you marry Brett then."
With that, Emmy sauntered out, hips swaying with exaggerated grace.
Terror coiled like a snake in Serena's chest as she lay helpless, trapped.
BANG!
The door slammed against the wall.
Serena jolted, twisting toward the noise in terror.
The room was swallowed in darkness. A man staggered inside, reeking of alcohol mixed with a sickly-sweet scent. She couldn't make out his face, but his towering frame and rippling muscles made her shiver.
"Hah..."
He didn't speak—just growled like an animal, oblivious to her gagged cries as he moved on instinct alone.
When consciousness returned, sunlight was streaming through the windows.
Serena was jolted from sleep by thunderous banging and chaotic shouting outside. The moment her eyes fluttered open, every nerve in her body screamed in protest.
She ached like she'd been put through a meat grinder—even her fingertips throbbed with pain. Memories of last night came crashing back through the mental fog. Why did her own body feel so alien to her? Had that scheming Emmy drugged her?
"Bam! Bam! Bam! Cousin! Are you alright in there? The whole family's been worried sick searching for you!" Emmy's saccharine voice oozed through the door, dripping with false concern.
Ice flooded her veins as she remembered the threat: *"I'll make sure the whole world knows..."*
No. She couldn't let her in.
Clenching her jaw against the pain, Serena tried to push herself up, but before she could glance at the man beside her, a steel-corded arm clamped down and shoved her back onto the mattress.
"Hiss—" She sucked in a sharp breath.
SPLINTERING CRASH!
The door exploded inward as Emmy came storming in, her eyes flashing with vulturous delight before morphing into exaggerated concern. "Oh heavens, cousin! Why are you in a hotel when—" Her voice hit a shrill crescendo. *"GASP* IS THAT—A MAN IN YOUR BED?!"
