Seth has spent his whole life being invisible.‎‎In a world where werewolves sense strength before they ever see it, Seth is Resonance-null... a wolf who carries no presence at all. No pressure. No weight. Nothing for anyone to feel coming. To his pack, that makes him nothing. A boy the pack forgot to finish making.‎‎Only two people ever looked at him differently. Master Salias, his trainer, who watches him like he's waiting for something he won't say out loud. And Ella, the Alpha's daughter, who breaks every rule of pack hierarchy just to walk beside him, even though her father has made it clear exactly what he thinks of that.‎‎On the night of Seth's eighteenth birthday, he's brought before the Heart of the First Beast, the ancient, glowing stone every wolf marks with their claws to reveal their true rank. Omega. Beta. Alpha. The Heart has never lied, not once in the pack's entire history.‎‎Until Seth touches it.‎‎Instead of leaving a mark, the Heart of the First Beast loses its glow and shatters in his hands. No omen, no ranking, no explanation the elders can agree on. Branded a curse nobody can understand, Seth is banished that same night by the very Alpha whose daughter has quietly loved him for years.‎‎Exiled and alone, Seth starts to realize his "nothing" was never really nothing at all. New instincts wake up in him, ones he can't control and doesn't understand. He starts sensing fear and intent the way other wolves sense Resonance. He survives attacks that should have killed him, using strength and speed that don't feel entirely his own. And afterward, there's no shaking, no adrenaline crash, nothing. Just an unnatural stillness where fear is supposed to be.‎‎Something is happening to him. And it isn't random.‎‎The wolves hunting him in the forest aren't rogues looking for easy prey. They're trained, coordinated, and they already know exactly who he is before they ever see his face. Someone sent them. Someone who wanted to know, the moment Seth proved dangerous, that it was true.‎‎Back within the pack, Ella refuses to accept her father's official story. She starts pulling at threads nobody wants her to find, a forgotten elder's warning, a flicker of guilt behind her father's eyes, a truth buried so deep even the pack's oldest records won't name it directly. All roads keep leading back to one place: an ancient, mostly-forgotten legend called the Alpha of Alphas, a title said to stand above every pack, and a secret her own father is protecting at any cost.‎‎Caught between loyalty to her father and everything she feels for Seth, Ella starts making choices that could cost her everything, sneaking past the border to find him, refusing to look away from a truth everyone else wants buried.‎‎And Seth, alone beyond the ridgelines his pack once called home, has no idea that the very stone he broke has started glowing again in a locked room miles away... or that whatever is waking up inside him has already caught the attention of something far older and more dangerous than a broken tradition.‎‎This is a story about being underestimated. About the difference between what a title says you are and what you actually are. About the terrifying weight of discovering your own strength before you understand what it means, or who's coming to take it from you.‎‎Seth never asked to matter. He's about to find out he never had a choice.

CHAPTER ONE: THE AWAKENING NIGHT
I turned eighteen the night everything I thought I knew about myself fell apart. Everyone expected me to be an Omega. That was the kindest guess. The unkind ones called me nothing at all, a wolf with no Resonance, no pressure, no presence anyone could feel coming. I'd grown up hearing it whispered behind my back so many times I stopped flinching. Almost. My hands wouldn't stop shaking as we walked up to the ancestral rock that night. I shoved them in my pockets so no one would see, but it didn't matter. Everyone around me could feel their own strength settling in their chest like something solid. I felt nothing. I always felt nothing. "You hold yourself like you're already sorry for existing," Master Salias said, tapping my shoulder with his staff. "Stop that." I didn't tell him I'd practiced standing straighter in the mirror the night before, the same way I practiced apologizing to no one in particular. Some habits you don't explain to anyone, not even the one person who seemed to actually care whether I lived or died in this pack. Tonight was the Awakening. Tonight, the Heart of the First Beast would tell everyone exactly what I was. I already knew what they expected the answer to be. Ella walked beside me the whole way up, which she wasn't supposed to do. She was the Alpha's daughter. Alpha-blood, marked for greatness since she was a child, already treated like a future Luna long before she'd chosen a mate. Wolves like her didn't walk next to wolves like me, not where people could see, not when her father made it clear every chance he got that I wasn't the kind of company he wanted for her. She did it anyway. She always did. "You're shaking," she said quietly. "I'm cold." "You're a werewolf. You don't get cold." She almost smiled. "It's okay to be scared, Seth." I wanted to tell her that scared wasn't even the right word for what I felt. Scared was for wolves who thought something bad might happen. What sat in my chest that night felt like something that had already been decided, and I was only walking toward it because there was nowhere else to walk. Her hand brushed mine for one second before the crowd pulled us apart. The Heart of the First Beast sat at the center of the clearing, dark and uneven, glowing faintly like a coal that hadn't decided whether it was dying or catching. It had been there longer than anyone could say for certain, longer than any pack law, older than the idea of Alphas and Omegas and mates and Luna titles. Every eighteen-year-old put their claws to it. The depth of the mark decided everything. Omega. Beta. Alpha. No lies, no politics, no bloodline could change what the Heart said you were. Talia went first. A shallow scratch. Omega, and her mother's face did that complicated thing where relief and disappointment share the same breath. Malric went next, and left four deep grooves that made the whole clearing murmur. Closer to Alpha than any wolf his age in years. Not enough to challenge one outright, but enough that he walked back to his family like he'd already won something. Then Ella stepped up, and I felt her before I saw her move, that same pressure everyone else could feel but I never could, rolling off her like heat from a fire. Her claws didn't scratch the stone. They sank into it, four furrows so deep the elders went silent for three full seconds before anyone remembered to announce it. Alpha-line. No surprise. Everyone had known since she was small. She looked back at me once before stepping down. I never figured out what she was trying to say with that look. Then it was my turn. Someone laughed when the elder called my name. Not cruelly. Just tired, the kind of laugh people give something they've already decided the ending of. I walked up anyway. The stone felt warmer than I expected under my palm. I pressed my claws to it, bracing for the same faint, apologetic mark I always imagined I'd leave, if I left anything at all. Something pulled at me before I understood what it was. Not a scratch. Not a measurement. It felt like recognition, like a lock finally meeting the one key it had been waiting for. I pressed in. The glow didn't flare. It vanished. The clearing went pitch black, silent in a way that rang in my ears from the absence of sound. Someone gasped. A torch was shoved closer, like light alone could force an explanation out of solid stone. Then the Heart split down the center with a crack like the oldest bone in the world breaking, and both halves dropped into the dirt at my feet. Nobody moved. Nobody breathed. "It's old," someone finally said, too loud, too fast, the way people talk when they're trying to convince themselves before anyone else. "It's survived a thousand Awakenings. It had to fail eventually. It can't be him. He has no Resonance. There's nothing in him strong enough to break it." But I'd felt it. That pull. That recognition. The Heart hadn't failed because of me. It had opened for me. Staring down at the two broken halves of something older than the pack's entire history, I understood, with a certainty colder than anything Ella could ever tease out of me, that there was no version of my life left where I got to stay invisible again.
