"David, pull back, I've got this." Janet whispered to her brother, as she held tight to the revolver, her eyes fixed on the door.
"But Janet... " David hesitated, his face pale. "Trust me. I said I've got this" Janet cut him off. Her voice was low but firm.
David pulled back in fear. Janet tiptoed towards the door. Her hand still holding the revolver firmly as she pressed her ears against the wall to pick up familiar sounds.
Just then, a bang! "It's me- Please open up!" Janet recognized the voice. “Ayo? " "Yes, your cousin. Please, let me in quickly."
Janet stepped back, making way for David to open the door. But she held tight to the revolver. Her Finger was slightly on the trigger, ready to bring down any enemy that perhaps would have followed Ayo. Her 6th sense on high alert.
"Ayo, are you alone?" David asked; his hand on the door, but made sure he was out of Janet's direct shot.
"Yes, David. Please, open up."
David opened the door gently. Ayo rushed in and closed the door immediately trying to catch his breath. "They are on to us. Otunba's men are stiffening security. They know something is up. But they can't place their hands on what and whom... We must leave here now. It's not safe"
"We need to accelerate our plans. We must speed up things up. David, get the bags ready, we leave tonight." Janet affirmed, her voice firm but urgent as she lowered the revolver.
David hesitated, his eyes wide with concern." But we are not done planning. We need more time."
"Time is a luxury we can't afford now, David. We are choice-trapped. If we don't strike now while the iron is still red hot, we may lose our chance." Janet said pacing around the room.
"Janet's right David. Let's cash in on the element of surprise already building up. Otunba wouldn't know what hit him." Ayo who has been listening to the conversation spoke up.
"Okay, but we still need to have a plan in place. We can't just go in without a solid plan. Or we'll be working into Otunba's trap." David agreed.
"Fine, let's go over what we have already. We'll figure out the rest as we go"
"Janet, we need to change base. I'm not comfortable here. " Ayo said, his voice was a little shaky. "Ayo is right." David supported.” His eyes scanning the room nervously.
Janet nodded, her head already calculating their next move. "Alright, let's move to our safe house"
At a Safe House...
Janet led them to an abandoned building, 3km away from their house. It was a three-bedroom bungalow. The smell of dead animals filled the air. The ceiling caved in. The road that led to the house was very lonely. Only a few neighbors around.
As they settled into one of the musty rooms, Janet spread the map of Williams Towers, the headquarters of Williams Holdings, on a broken dirty brown table, the sound of rolling paper broke the silence in the air.
"This is the layout of the building," she explained, her finger running through the path to an abandoned entrance at the back. "Here, our way in."
David and Ayo moved closer to review the map. Their eyes scanned the layout of the building. "There seems to be a problem, Janet." David challenged. "What is it, David?" Janet questioned. "How do we get past the security guards?'
He continued. "And the Security cameras as well." Ayo added his voice with doubt.
Janet smiled with confidence. "Never mind, I've got that covered. You see, I have studied their rotation. There is a window of 15 minutes when the guards change shifts. That's our best shot."
David and Ayo looked at each other and then turned towards Janet "Are you sure?" They both chorused as though it was planned.
"Yes, I'm sure. I know it like I know I graduated with a first-class from the prestigious University of Ibadan." Janet teased to ease the tension.
"Okay, let's do this," Ayo said, looking at David.
"Sure!" David nodded. His eyes locked on Janet.
"But wait a minute guys, what if there is a smarter way to do this?" David asked. "How do you mean? "Ayo interjected.
David continued; his voice shaky "What if we had someone on the inside who could give us intel and help us bring him down?"
Ayo's eyes spread out with the realization "That's a smart move. But who would want to embark on a journey of no return?"
Janet’s face lit with determination "I'll do it. I will infiltrate his empire as a janitor. That way, I can gain access to everything we need"
"Janet, that's too dangerous!" David resents.
Janet asked shaking his head, "Do you have a better plan? We need someone on the inside. Someone competent we can trust. I can do it. I know I can "
"Janet, are you sure about this? This is a suicide mission" Ayo asked. Janet gave him a reassuring look "Yes. I am"
“Then we need to re-strategize.” David suggested.
All at once, the noise of a speeding car and the loud skidding of tires filled the air. Janet's heart pounded. "What now?” she wondered, her barely a whisper.
Next, the atmosphere was covered with the sound of heavy boots approaching, each step louder than the previous. "Go now!" she urged, pushing David and Ayo towards the back exit.
David hesitated; his eyes filled with worry. "Janet, be careful."
Janet gave him a reassuring nod. "I will, now, go!"
As David and Ayo disappeared into the night, Janet turned to face the approaching danger, her grip tightening on the revolver.
