Chapter 3

*Stefan's POV* "Sorry, my tardiness had to follow the new student around." The teacher looked at the new student with a smile and looked back at me with a discreet nod. I settled into my seat, next to one of my best friends. There is something you should know about us. This school is between two werewolf packs, so to speak. And my father is the manager of one. He is what you call an Alpha. An Alpha is a werewolf who is significantly stronger than the others, born to lead and protect his pack. Since my father is Alpha, and since I am his eldest son, I am also an Alpha. So, one day I will take over our herd. But enough about my pack right now, there's another pack in the area. My sidekick and one of my good friends is also an Alpha, ie. he is the son of an Alpha. We will also come back to that. Furthermore, we also have some people in these areas and at this school. Usually my wolf and I have no doubts about who is human and who is not. The new girl confuses me. And it really annoys me and my wolf that we don't know if she is human or werewolf. It's not that I see her as a danger, because I don't. But she's a loose end that I can't piece together until I gather more information. And my wolf and I will probably find out the end, you can be sure of that. “My name is Lisa Bell, um…. 17 years old and…” The teacher had obviously asked the new girl to introduce herself. My eyes lift and look at her as she finishes the rest of her so-called introduction. “…uhh, I live alone with my mom, uhm…. uhh ... my father passed away when I was very small and we have moved the long way here…. ummm…. because of my mother's new job.” At the same moment that Lisa finishes her very uncertain introduction, I feel a rather violent blow of an elbow into my side. Not that it hurts, because of my wolf genes. Know immediately that the blow originates from my sidekick. Yep, him who in the future, like me, also ends up as Alpha. His name is Kian, by the way. Bending down a little so I could face Kian and hopefully talk to him without being spotted by the teacher. It may well be that our teacher is also a werewolf, and that we are the sons of the leaders of the 2 packs in the immediate area. But, therefore, it is still expected of ud, that we follow the curriculum at school. "You helped the new girl around the school, right?" Kian asked. "Yep" I got the answer with a press of the P. Followed by a “What then?” Kian looks like someone who is strongly considering whether he can say what's on his mind. I give him a wry smile as I ask again and, with a little more pressure in my voice, "what then?" Kian looks me straight in the eye as he says “She confuses me and my wolf is anxious. Not because we see her as a possible danger. But…” it takes a while before he continues. "I can not explain it." After another short break. "I don't even understand it myself." My smile faded a little. Can only give a response. "My wolf reacts a bit like that." Kian gets a determined look in his eyes, you can almost see the gears moving in there. Not that I can blame him, my inner monologue only calmed down after we agreed to find out what she is. Kian no doubt noticed as my smile faded. None of us likes loose ends. But we agree on one thing. Lisa has a secret that we want to find out exactly what it is. We apparently both decide to turn around to look over at the spot Lisa has taken. We both keep our eyes on her for a while before turning around again. But we kept our gaze long enough for several of the wolves in the class to start whispering inquiringly as to what it was all about. A knowing and crooked smile spread across my lips. She felt our gaze on her, but she tried to ignore it. Good try though, but I could see the underlying discomfort in her body language. Both my wolf and I hate being ignored. How can she one moment submit and the next ignore not just one but two Alphas. This is something that confuses and irritates me even more. *Lisa's POV* As the second hand quietly works its way up to 12, a quiet cooing disturbs my thoughts from the hands of the clock. To the hunger that I had forgotten, that now took all my focus. Fortunately, it's almost lunchtime. And since I didn't get to eat my breakfast, both my stomach and I are looking forward to lunch. And even though it's my first day, I know where to sit. There won't be the normal awkward first lunch. You know where you stand with your food and look a little ridiculous and lost. Everyone else has a fixed place in the hierarchy, a table and a cliché they belong to. Today, I don't know if I belong to a certain cliché, but if nothing else, I have somewhere to sit. Together with Marie, 3 tables from the bottom, on the right side of the dining room. *RIIIING* The loud shrill sound of the bell jerks me out of my thoughts about seating. The sound of people packing up their things and leaving the room as fast as they can. As I get my things together, I have a brief second to think. "How do I find the canteen?" but at the same moment it occurs to me that, of course, it is not necessary. The school is full of hungry young people. If I follow the flow of people, I would be led to the canteen. Rushing out of the classroom, following the flow of people. Sure enough, I was led to the canteen. I got some food, and turned around and saw that table with Marie, then something changed in me. The nervousness I had expected I got rid of, by already having a seat at a table. Didn't seem so peaceful anymore.
