I froze the moment he said those words to me. I did not know what to say. I opened my mouth, my eyes on the floor but no words came out of my mouth. All I could do was bow but at some point, the quietness was just a little too much so I had to say something. “I’m- I’m sorry” I said
“Get out” he said
I wasted no time bolting out of there. I was not the princess. I was a slave. My death will not be remembered. No one will remember that I was once a princess. Now I was a slave that they could shred into two and no one would care.
I gave a sigh of relief as I was able to walk out of the room with all my body parts intact. My body was still shaky when I approached the kitchen. The maids that saw me gave me weird glances as though they did not expect me to come out of there alive.
I did, and I am more than happy about it even though I did something wrong. I did the dishes because no one was going to do it. They all stepped into their rooms and while going back to my room, which I shared with three people, I heard the guard instructing them.
“No one steps out of this room after now, am I understood?” the guard said and the maids chorused.
I stepped in, they passed a glare at me before the guard walked away. I wanted to take my bath, but I was just too tired to do anything after my long day, so I laid down on the bed and in no time I was asleep. In almost an hour, I was woken up by a loud noise.
It was so loud I felt the mansion was about to collapse. I tried to ignore it and just continue sleeping, but it was just too much. I opened my eyes and sat up, darting my eyes around the not-so dark room thanks to the moon.
The other maids were all asleep, and it felt as though they were not also hearing what I was. At first, I thought maybe it was some bad dream because when I got up it felt as though it was no longer there. I was about to go back to bed when the noise started again.
Glasses were shattering, the building shook, footsteps of someone moving around followed it. Every second there was something breaking around the house. I just could not take it. Were the maids so stressed that they were not hearing the noise coming from corridors?
I stood up and then the guard's words echoed in my ears. He said we should not leave the room, but something was going on out there. Aren’t we supposed to know what is going on, so we can know how to protect ourselves?
A part of me wanted me to go back to bed, but I could not do that. I was having so much difficulty sleeping already and the sleep I once had was long gone. I would not be able to sleep until the noise died down or, at least, I knew what was going on.
Was the mansion under attack or something? But who would dare attack Lycan’s mansion? Whoever that person might be, they must have sworn to die because that was what he was looking for. I grabbed a touch as I would not want to wake any of them up, and so I moved towards the door.
The door made a creaking noise which caused me to look over my shoulder when I woke them up. I was just curious. If they could hear the noises, why could they not wake up and go check it out? Were the guards even trying to check what was going on? So many questions kept running through my mind.
The maids' quarters were below, but the noise was coming from upstairs. In the hallway leading to Lycan Mathias’ room. Was he killing someone again? I moved slowly, ensuring I did not make a single noise as I got closer and closer to where the noise was coming from.
Finally, I was in the hallway and just a step forward and my eyes to the right, I spotted what or who was causing the noise. Lycan Mathias. He looked so unrecognizable. There were so many black veins around his neck. His nose was bleeding. His canines were out, and his eyes were red.
My blue eyes locked with his, and I felt time freeze for a moment. It felt like he was seeing into my soul as we looked at each other. He was not the handsome Lord Mathias’. He did not look like the man we all dreaded alone because of how powerful he was. He looked like he was in pain.
I could not read it properly, but I knew the little I saw was painful. He could so easily mask it, but I knew it was still there. For some strange reason, I wanted to comfort him. Being in pain and not being able to resolve it was ten times worse.
He was shirtless, and I could see those veins pumping all around his body. “Al- Alpha Mathais”, I stammered in fright.
He moved closer to me and a part of me told me to run. The pain I saw in his eyes was long gone. It was replaced with something I could not recognize. Something deadly, but why was I still glued to the spot? Why could I not run away from him? He looked like he had intent of killing.
This was what I wanted to run away from. I did not want to be close to him. He was the dreaded Alpha. He did not mind killing anyone that tried to come in his way. The more he came closer to me, the more I felt I made a terrible mistake coming out of the room to find out what the problem was.
I snapped out of my daze and tried to run. To my dismay, I could not. My feet were frozen to the ground. I could not feel them anymore. I swallowed hard, glancing from my legs at Lycan Mathais, who was moving closer to me like a predator coming for its prey.
“Please. I- I… Please”
I have no words to use to beg right now. What have I gotten myself into? Why was I so glued to the ground? Was I so scared my legs chose to act on their own? My heart was rising as I raised my head to meet his gaze. He was no longer distant from me.
He was only an arm’s length close to me now. He towered down at me, his gaze having the same intensity it had had before. We remained that way for a few seconds. I would have chosen to do otherwise, but then again, I could not move.
He brought his face closer to mine in a twinkle of an eye, his hands were around my neck, making me gasp. I took my hand in his large hands trying to stop him from strangling me, but all my efforts were in vain. “Pl- Pl- please”, I forced myself to say as I slowly saw my life flashing before my eyes.
None of my struggles were getting to him. Rather, it only made the strangulation worse. He stopped suddenly, but before I could celebrate, I flew across the hallway and landed a distance away from where he stood before I blacked out.
