Chapter one
Isla’s POV
Coff! Coff!
I laid on the ground, placing one hand in front of the other as I tried to move away from there. Every bone in my body felt like it was breaking into pieces. I was beyond my limit at this point. I just wanted to be out and, if possible, out of this body once and for all.
My gown was already torn at this point. I had been moving like a snake for a long time, not minding the stones that I had to move across to go further. I have been running for so long. I was tired.
My head was bleeding, my eyes were heavy, my entire body felt like it was no longer mine. With each slow movement I made, my entire body. My brain was already foggy. I wanted to succumb to it. I wanted to let the darkness envelop me once again.
It was not the first time. It can always happen again. Maybe I could finally move to a much better body. A better life. Maybe the moon goddess would finally have pity on me and give me the desired effect I wanted.
This was too much. I had taken too much, but she has refused to let me go. She does not want to let me leave. I no longer wanted revenge. I no longer wanted to see them suffer. They could enjoy their wicked life for all I care. I would not interfere with it any longer.
“I just want to come back, Mother. Take me back,” I pleaded, “You were right. You are always right”.
Tears formed and rolled down my eyes as I struggled some more to move. I could not feel my legs. They were so numb. I could not stand up anymore. At least as at this moment. While I contemplated my end, I forgot my chasers were still after me.
Not until I heard the sounds of footsteps approaching did I realize that they were still on my trail. I tried to increase my pace, still crawling. That was my only way out. My legs were…
Like I always felt whenever I was close to my time of death, I felt that strength to stand up. To run. I did not think about it too much. I jumped to my feet and ran with my bleeding head, arm, and legs. They were hurting, but I still pushed forward.
I tried to save myself. Maybe this time I would not die. I cannot go through that again. The pain was just too much. I cannot go through it. Moon goddess, save me. I plead with you. Save me. I kept praying for her. Just this once, let her save me from my enemies clutches.
I held my head with one hand and the other helped me push the branches away from my bath. I pushed the leaves to the side. The quick footsteps beside me kept getting closer and closer while I gradually slowed down.
My energy was being drained as time went on. “Catch her,” I heard the guard yell at his mates
It made me increase my pace. We were all wolves. They were stronger than I in this body, but I was not going to let them catch me. I would win. I must escape them. Even if it meant being in a different pack entirely. I needed to get to the border.
From afar, I sighted it. It felt like the light at the end of the tunnel. A wide smile came across my chapped and bleeding lips. Finally, I was going to leave. If I could just cross it. I would be free. I would never set my eyes on them again.
I ran with all my might. I had to go. They rarely leave the border. They hated crossing the boundary. They never stated why, but they hated it. I was sure they were not going to join me there.
My eyes were solely on the boundary. I no longer cared about my bleeding body. All I cared about was that spot I was running towards. That line that separated me from this cursed world. This place has shown me nothing but pain all my life.
I was ready to leave it all alone, at least for now. I was not strong. I could not win this battle. They were stronger than I. They made me know that on countless occasions. I might go now, but I know I would have to come back stronger.
Someone would definitely help me in this pack. I did not know the name of the pack, but I was sure to make acquaintance with them. I was sure to be friends with them. I would stay away from anything that would distract me. I would stay away from that which would make me stray from my goal.
I was not going to involve myself in the game of love. It was stupid and was never meant for a celestial like me. I belittle myself and would never do that anymore. I will make sure I win this time. I would make sure I come back stronger, and I would take over this pack and make sure they do know my true na-
Oof!
I fell to the ground. My feet got stuck in a branch, which quickly twisted my ankle and made me fall flat to the ground just before I could get to my destination. I turned around immediately and could see their smiling faces.
My heart raced, my heart was pounding in my chest. I was going to die in their hands once more. They were going to win again. My entire body shook as these deadly wolves moved closer to me with their out staring down at me like I was some kind of meal for them.
I could not even say the words. I wanted to go to bed. I wanted to plead that they have mercy on me. But I just could not. Why should I beg? They were meant to beg me to save them. To spare them. That was all I envisioned. Not this. This was not the plan. This was never the plan. They do not have the right to treat me this way.
“Still running,” the leader of the men sneered at me.
I slowly moved back to get closer to the border before they got to me. “You can run, but we would definitely sell you off today, even though you are half dead or not. You will serve the man we are to take you to”.
“Never!” I barked, my voice coming out so cracked that the back of my throat itched the moment I said it.
He chuckled, then crouched down in front of me. “Let’s see about that, shall we?” he said. “Grab her”
Quickly, I picked up a good amount of sand with both hands and tossed it to them in their eyes. It slowed them down, and I rushed up and dashed for the boundary. One step, two steps, three steps, and finally I was out.
I was close to smiling when I spun around to see how far they were, and I saw that dagger only a second before it dived into my chest and into my heart.
