Chapter two

1234 Words
Isla's POV I blinked my eyes open, wondering where I was and how it all happened. There was not a single thing I could remember. Where was I? Who was I? What was my name? Why was I bandaged up? How did I get here? I was filled with confusion as to what was going on. My mind was blank, and I felt I was missing something important. Why could I not remember what was going on with me? I kept asking so many questions but none of them were answered duly. At least, I had no knowledge to be able to answer those questions reasonably. I tried to get up, but it was a little too difficult to do so. The side of my head felt like it was hit with an axe, and they tore my head open. I looked around the room one more time. I do not remember this place or how I got here. The door opened up and a man and a lady walked in, glaring at me. I felt I knew them from somewhere. They looked so familiar to me. To an extent, it felt like they were not here to kill me, but then a strong part of me was telling me otherwise. I was not told to step back a bit because of the intimidating aura they walked in with. “Are you scared?” the lady asked. I did not answer that question because I knew it was all a ploy to make me feel little. That was how I saw their auras. It made the people demean themselves and not the other way around. “Why did you not die?” the lady asked again. What was she ranting about? Die? Why? I wanted to laugh. Me? This lady is so funny but I said nothing. She continued speaking about so many things. I was so lost in everything together and, finally, the man beside her held her shoulder, then moved closer to me. “What’s your name?” he asked. I stared at him for a moment, then moved my gaze to the lady before looking away with a frown. My name. I do not even remember who I am in the slightest. “I- I do not remember”, I stammered. The two people in front of me glanced at themselves before turning around to leave. “Get her to work” the man said the moment a guard walked in. I was not given the time to process anything. Two guards grabbed me by the arm and while I passed strange glances at them none of them said anything to me or told me what was happening. “Clear the grass before twelve o’clock” one of the guard commanded, and they dropped me on the ground My knees felt like they could break into two with the impact on the ground. They dropped no equipment for me to use and walked away. “I- I-” I could not complete my sentence before I felt a huge whip on my back. “Get to work” the man said. I jumped up immediately and began uprooting the grass with my hands. That was all I had. An hour into this, I felt my back, my hand and my head turning worse with each passing moment. The guard kept handing the whip on my back every two minutes to get me to be fast about the task. I could have been faster if I had been given some equipment. I tried pleading for one, but it only just made the whip increase with every stroke. My back and my legs were already covered in bruises. My stomach growled, which was the second time it had been growling in thirty minutes. The piece of land I was to clear was a hectare long, but I have not gotten to half of the land. I could not finish it even if I wanted to. I was not fully strong for this. My body kept shaking as I moved forward and forward, and I doubt I would be able to keep going as time went on. As I had predicted, my eyes began to feel heavy. I tried to hold it down as the guard kept whipping me because I was slow. I tried to do as he asked, but my body froze to the ground and I kept shaking until my whole body landed on the ground. I did not think it was long when I eventually woke up. “Sell her, Lawrence”. I heard Maria’s voice "The Lycan king was already angry that I did not do as promised. I doubt he will come again.” “Then find someone else to buy her. I do not like her around. Don’t blame me if I kill her before she gets sold.” “You have two days to do it.” I shut my eyes the moment someone walks into the door. From his scent, I knew who he was, Lawrence Grom. He was the same man that I had loved blindly. He was the man that made me plead to come down to be with him. Mother placed me in the right position to be with him. It took so much effort to come down here. To be close to him. We were friends, to lovers and finally, to mates, but I was betrayed. I was left to face my life alone all because of my mate. He wanted to be with someone else. I was in my delusional land when I thought he loved me as much as I did him. I was banished because of him. My parents were killed and it was all him. He did it to me. He made me an orphan, just so he could be the next ruler. Just so he could trample upon me and make me beg. Maria, who was my best friend too while growing up. We were a trio. I told her everything. I mean everything about myself, but she chose to go behind my back and plot against my family and I. Lawrence would still have remained the next ruler if he had just gotten married to me, but they killed my parents, and they are proud of it. I was given a third life to make sure they paid dearly for it all. My second life ended even before I could do anything. This third life would have ended the same way, but my mother wants me to get revenge and I will get revenge on all those that have wronged me. “I know you might have forgotten, but you must be sold by tomorrow. It’s either that or I will get rid of you. I do not like your ugly face being around this place any longer. I thought you had finally died once, but you chose to come back alive”, he chuckled. “Such a foolish girl. Since you chose to die. I would sell you off to the man that would end the task in my hands. I’m sure you have heard of him. We dreaded him because of how long he has been able to stay on earth and as the ruler. He is not just an ancient Lycan. He will be your nightmare.” Lycan Mathias!
