📄 CHAPTER 14
Finally, Elias stepped forward. He did not summon wind or shadows or light, but as he stood there, the faint shimmer in the air around them grew clearer, pulsing with a slow, steady rhythm. It felt like a heartbeat, gentle and alive.
“My gift is different,” he said. “I do not command one element. Instead, I can sense the magic itself — feel its flow, know when it is growing strong or weak, calm it when it becomes chaotic, or strengthen it when it begins to fade.”
He held out his hand toward the shimmering air, and the faint glow gathered softly around his fingers, brightening and then dimming in time with his breath. “It is the power to understand and protect the balance. That is why my family has always been the ones to lead when the Veil grows thin.”
Liana watched in awe, realizing that everything she had thought was fantasy was actually part of the world she lived in. She thought back to the strange wind, the twisted shadows, and the warmth she had felt when Elias had found her — it all made sense now.
“And me?” she asked softly, looking from one to the other. “If I can see these things… does that mean I have a gift too?”
Elias smiled gently, nodding. “Everyone has the potential to feel magic, but only a few can truly see it. You have what we call the Sight — the ability to perceive the Veil and the things that pass through it. It may not be as dramatic as controlling wind or shadows, but it is just as important. Without those who can see, the changes in the barrier would go unnoticed until it was too late.”
