As I'm driving down the highway heading home, I see a backup of cars right before the checkpoint.
"Stupid Checkpoint" I mutter to myself as I get my license out of my purse. You see in this day in age humans are so paranoid to the point where they make checkpoints every 5 miles to make sure none of their "test subjects" escape. It's so f*****g stupid, I hate it so much.
"Identification please," the guard says. I give him my license and as he checks it I place my thumb on the scan pad and watch the light turn green. I take my thumb off the scan pad and the guard hands me my license back. I tell him thank you and drive through the checkpoint zone mumbling curse words under my breath.
When I get home I'm greeted with the aroma of delicious food and Latin melodies. As I walk into the kitchen I stifle a laugh as I watch Hilda attempt to teach Matt how to salsa. This just made my day.
"Momma!" Mathew said as he came running towards me. I chuckled and hugged him, happy to come home to such amazing entertainment. Hilda smiles at me as she plates dinner for tonight. My mouth waters just looking at the plate. Tamales. yay.
As soon as dinner was finished I had Matt go upstairs to finish his homework and brush his teeth. I helped Hilda clean and put our dishes in the dishwasher. Afterwards I bid Hilda good night as I headed upstairs to tuck Matt in bed, however when I got there he was already sleeping in his bed. I held in a chuckle because I didn't want to wake him, and I kissed his forehead while tucking him into his bedding. As soon as I closed his door I stifled a yawn and trudged over to my bedroom which was across the hall. I walk over to the side of my bed and open the bedside drawer to take out a folded photo. I looked at the photo fondly and laid it on my bedside table. I fell on my back into the comfy sheets welcoming dream land.
