Ch.15 Jack

Rose looks surprised and scared at the same time. “I.. I have to go to work, and I can’t eat all that.” She stutters, eyeing the sandwich next to her. The way she was looking at it you would think it was a ten pound steak. This only reminds me of all the care she needs to get her back to her old healthy happy self. Flashes of our childhood run through my head. The way her red hair looked like flames as she ran through the woods. Our favorite game was tag. I wonder if she still likes to play.  I push the memories and thoughts away. One day she is going to be like that girl again. It may take time and enormous amounts of care, but I’m not going to give up. I meant what I told Doc. Someday she will be happy and have everything a warrior queen like her deserves. Because that is what she is a warrior queen.  I turn her head back to me and try not to lose myself in her hazel eyes. “You are not going to work, and we can stay here all night. If that’s what it is going to take to get you to eat the whole thing.” I pick up her sandwich and hold it to her lips. Hesitantly she takes a small bit. I bring the sandwich down a bit and watch her chew. It brings a smile to my lips to watch my mate eat what I feed her. My primal need to provide for her is off the charts. When she finishes chewing I tell her “good girl.” Then place the sandwich back to her lips.  We repeat this process until the entire thing is gone. She sits in front of me putting and holding her stomach. She is probably not used to feeling this full. I know she is probably upset with me, but it's for her own good. “Now we are going to go and put you in bed. Then when you wake up we will decide what we are going to do.” I tell her, helping her down from the counter. I take her by the hand and ask her to show me to her room.  She leads me up stairs to the end of the hall. Her room is the last room on the right. Entering her room I take a look around. It was quite small. Just enough room for a full size bed, a dresser, and a vanity. Her closet door was open and it didn’t look that big either. Her walls were bare of pictures. Except for one small one that was taped to the wall above her bed. Looking closely I noticed her, she must have been nine or so, she was on a bike. A couple were on either side of her smiling, but it wasn’t her parents. “That was taken on my tenth birthday. I didn’t have a party because my parents weren’t able to get the day off. Lulu had made me a cake and Doc played his guitar for me. They had gotten me many presents, but my favorite was that bike. Doc had taught me how to ride going up and down our road. While Lulu sat on the porch cheering for me.” She paused for a moment looking at the photo. “It was the best day of my life. We laughed, played in the yard, and ate so much sugar.” She laughed, but it was a sad laugh. “That day I thought that everything would get better.” I took Rose into my arms and held her tight. I could feel her sadness rolling off of her.  After a few minutes I let her go. Drawing back her purple comforter waiting for her to get into bed. When she was all tucked in I sat on the edge of her bed. “I know you are probably upset with me for making you finish your sandwich, but I did it because I care. You are not alone anymore. You are my mate and if I have to set rules for you to be a good healthy girl then I will. We will talk more about it another time. For now just know I will do what I have to to get, and keep you happy and healthy. Even if it means you are going to be mad at me for a little bit.” I tell her before kissing her on her cheek. I stood up needing to put some space between us before I did something stupid.  As I went to walk out of her room her hand grabbed onto mine. Stopping me and making me look back at her. What she asked next surprised me. “Aren’t you going to stay with me?”  “Princess I don’t think that is such a good idea.” I tell her honestly wanting nothing more than to climb into bed next to her, but I don’t trust myself.  “Why?” She asks, I rake my free hand down my face trying to stay in control. Her innocent little mind will be the death of me. “Because if I lay next to your perfect little body I don’t think I could control myself.” I tell her my eyes traveling down her length remembering how perfect she looked in the shower. I was hoping that she would understand the struggle I was in.  When I looked back to her eyes I saw the most beautiful expression. One that was full of need. She needed me by her side. She wanted me to be near her so badly it turned into a need. I saw what I felt mirrored in her eyes. “Please Jack, stay with me.” I couldn’t tell her no. I couldn’t turn my back on her the first time she has openly shown me that she needed me. I moved to the other side of the bed and layed on top of the blanket. I wasn’t going to leave her, but I still didn’t trust myself to get under the blanket with her.  I pulled her to me. Her back to my front. I held her close and whispered in her ear. “Now go to sleep.” Her sweet scent filled my nose. I held back the urge to nuzzle the crook of her neck.  It wasn’t long until she was asleep. I layed there thinking. Tomorrow I will take her with me to the pack house. That is where I live most of the time. My mom and dad have their own house, but I preferred to stay in the pack house. I was closer to everything and there weren’t many people that stayed there. Mainly me, Ryan, and a few of the younger adults that didn’t want to keep living with their parents. That’s how it worked in our pack. Mated wolves move into a house shared with their mates and their family they would begin to build. While the unmated either stay with their parents or in the pack house until they find their mates.  That’s what my mind was stuck on as I dozed off. A family, I imagined Rose and I living in a house like this. Rose with a round baby belly. Our son and daughter ran throughout the house. Our son having my sandy blond hair and his mother's eyes. While our daughter, almost a spitting image of her mom, down to the light freckles across her nose. I could teach them about fighting, while Rose cooked dinner. All of us sitting around watching movies together. That is what I dreamed of until I felt something was wrong.  I felt a slight panic, but it wasn’t coming from me. I was starting to wake up when I felt kicking. Then Rose yelled out “HELP!” I shot awake looking for the intruder. It wasn’t long until I realized what was going on. Rose was having another nightmare. This time there were no straps to hold her down. No shot to help relax her. I did the only thing I could. I fought against her to get her wrist. I pushed myself on top of her trapping her legs with mine. I held her hands above her head. Trying my best to not hurt her but also keep her from hurting herself. As she thrashed around under me a tear escaped my eye. This hurt me more than she would ever know. I tried to make myself heard over her screams. Trying to sooth her until she stopped moving.
