CHAPTER 1
An elegant dining room where there's plenty of delish food was set on the grand dining table for deluxe people who were having their formal dinner meal right now.
Silence filled the atmosphere and only the soft sounds of utensils is breaking the stillness of everyone who was having their dinner. Karina was slowly chewing her food as she stared blankly at her plate, though, she was not hungry but she has to join her family for dinner tonight.
Her dad cleared his throat to get their attention, He was sitting in the center while I and my mother were on both sides. I lazily lifted my head and looked at him, my father is so serious and very formal, I looked at my mother whose occupying the seat in front of me and she was already looking at dad waiting for whatever he was going to say while she's holding a prestigious fashion magazine since she's running a known clothing line.
"Tomorrow, we'll going to attend a Birthday party of my dear friend Boromeo," His dad stated. Her mother Alora gave a sly smile to his father and nodded as if they were a good friend of that person they were talking about.
" And you Cassidy," Her dad throw her an intense look before he continued.
"I have already introduced you to my friend who's also our good business partner but I'm sure that you don't remember him since you're busy with your non-so important things, a complete nonsense." His voice was so calm
yet the words he was spilling out are so harsh.
Karina stopped chewing the food in her mouth that she couldn't really appreciate its taste since she doesn't really have the appetite for tonight's dinner. Then she continued eating like as if she was not affected by what his father just said. Well, the truth is, she's not.
" Are you even paying attention!?" Her father snapped with a threatening voice which made her winced.
I look at my father with an unbothered expression and I meet his piercing eyes as his gaze was glued to me.
" Yes, dad," I responded. Tss, I thought I'll survive this night without him noticing and admonished by him. He looked at me with his sharp gaze the same one he's giving when he's talking with those businessmen. I slightly glance at my mother and as usual, I saw her busy with that fashion magazine she was holding but I know she was just listening to us conversing.
'' And since it's your semestral break, you have no alibis for you not coming to any occasions and meetings, so expect for the coming weeks that you'll go to attend those," He added. " Your mother and I and of course, you, will go to attend those." He said with authority in his voice before he began again eating.
I didn't say anything, as if I had a choice. She thought. But the thought of dealing with people at that party is already draining me.
I hate attending formal parties unless it's a club party then I'm always on go.
I picked the table napkin on my lap and wipe it on the corner of my lips, she's not the type of girl wiping the corner of her mouth in a very effeminate and modest way, she's very unlikely to the most of the girls out there.
Her mother raised an eyebrow at her before she continued to eat.
" I'll prepare your gown for the party." Her mother stated and Karina just shrugged, anything will do since she's not picky about that, she'll even wear if ever that's an old fashion one, why not? it's still clothes.
I slightly pushed my plate when I'm done eating, and they both looked at me.
" I'm done, I'll go to my room," I said while looking at them and was about to stand from my seat when my father gave her a serious stare.
"Sit down." He commanded.
''We're not yet done, Cassidy, " Her mother added as she angled her head and looked at the chair where she was sitting earlier.
I sighed and bit my tongue in irritation and obeyed them. and just that, silence filled the atmosphere while I'm staring blankly at the table and languishing waiting for them until they finish with their food.
In the immediate family, it may be okay to leave the table, but in my case, I can't leave the table while they're still eating, 'cause it is seen as rude whether it's a formal or just even an ordinary dinner.
I sigh in relief when they finished with their meal and ended their discussion about business.
After that, I went straight to my room and throw my body on my very soft mattress.
I have no choice but to attend the party, dad won't accept any refusal from me either. and mom, won't allow me to choose what I want to wear since she doesn't trust my taste. Perks of being the only child, the only heiress of our family business, and at an early age, they already want me to expose to the business industry.
My gaze shifted to the corner of my room where I have 6 DSLRs and also a Polaroid properly stored in their respective places. I like photography.
I busied myself staring at the ceiling until she drifted off to sleep.
The next morning I was bombarded with an irritating knock on the door. I checked the time with my eyes half-closed ''cause I'm still so sleepy and I just want to lie on the bed the whole day but the noise outside of my room already ruined my morning!
I nuzzled my nose when I looked at the clock and it was just 7:05 in the f*****g morning! someone behind the door seems so eager to wake me up 'cause the knocks are as irritating as my alarm clock didn't stop.
I get up. bad mood and walk straight to the door without minding how do I look like.
I was frowning when I opened the door and I saw one of our housemaids standing straight while she was playing with her fingers and she looks nervous. Oh? maybe she's intimidated by me, but I'm not trying to intimidate her though, It's my natural postures and stares. Whatever.
" I'm sorry to disturb your sleep, young lady." She looked at me apologetically as she proceeded to say why she was here" Ma'am Alora ordered me to call you to be in her office 'cause she wants you to fit the gown she chose for you'' she said as she in a thoughtful way.
I pressed my lips in a grim line out of frustration, seriously? at 7 am my peaceful sleep was interrupted just because of that?! and for god sake, the party would be later tonight, mom is preparing as if it's my wedding day!
"I'll be there in a minute," I said, and without waiting for her response I turned my back and slams the door shut.
