CHAPTER 42

This is it. I puffed my breath when the MC called me. I confidently step down the staircase. I wasn’t surprised anymore when I saw the tones of guests giving resounding applause as they watch me walk down gracefully. I saw my parents standing on the right side and, just by that, I can’t deny that their presence shouted pride and power. On the other side, I saw Crisha together with Olivia and Luna. They were clapping while their eyes were on me. I braced myself and smiled at everyone who was here tonight. I gave a very short message and I tried to roam my eyes around. Looking for someone. It was 8 p.m. and I could see everyone was sporting their expensive dresses and such, just like I always see whenever I have to attend a party, and now It’s my party and I don’t actually know or even familiar with those guests here tonight. Probably, my parent’s business friend or something. “Happy birthday, Cassidy.” My mom was the one to greet me first and hugged me. She was looking so beautiful in her one-shoulder green bodycon dress. “Thanks, mom,” I whispered and looked at her. I noticed that there are other guests wants to greet me but they stayed for a while when they saw me talking with my parents. I smiled widely and looked at them both with my hopeful and puppy eyes. I wish this would work this time, it’s my birthday though. “Can I drive my own car-----” I was happily asking that when my dad answered me directly. “No.” He answered with finality in his voice. I pouted. “Mom?” I called for my mom. She was standing beside my dad when I looked at her. She just shook her head and glanced at my dad as if he held the decision. Well, he’s the one who decides about it though. I noticed in my peripheral vision that almost all the guest’s attention was on us. I can’t see them clearly since it was slightly shady and only those giant chandeliers lit the night for tonight’s celebration. ‘’ Dad…---” I pouted when he immediately shook his head and sip on his wine. I heard my mother’s short laugh before she looked at me. “Wait ‘till you turn 18, Cassidy,” She said to me. I pouted. “You better greet the guests Cassidy.” Said, dad. I can’t complain since he was now telling me to do it. “Okay,” I responded languidly before I turned my back on them. I greeted almost all of the socialites and businessmen and they were flooding me with gifts. I could say that it was not just a simple gift. It was an expensive one. Sometimes I don’t understand rich people spending that much on something. Competing with others through things. I shrugged and went to where my best friend was sitting. She was with Olivia and Luna at the table. And even though on my way to them, I stopped from time to time if someone greeted me, especially elderly people. “KC!” called out my name. I smiled and walked in their direction. I slightly tilted my head and looked where I left my parents, just to see that they were now busy chattering with the other businessmen, as usual. “Ah, you’re so beautiful,” Crisha mumbled and slightly smacked my arms. I shook my head and I heard Olivia and Luna chuckle. “Are you guys just okay here?’’ I asked and looked at the three of them. They nodded and said yes, It’s kinda tiring. I already feel tired right now, but of course, I can’t just leave them here and besides, I’m still waiting for Viel. It’s already half past 8 p.m. but why he’s not yet still? “Who are you looking at KC?” I almost fell on my seat when Crisha suddenly whispered in my ears. “What the f**k!” I silently sneered at her. I earned a heartily laugh from her before she stared at me once again and arched her brows. “It seems like you’re searching for someone?” She asked curiously. “Oh my God! See? I told you---” I frowned when I heard slightly exaggerated whispers coming from Olivia and I caught them both glancing at me. “What?” I asked impatiently. “Nothing, young lady.” They said in unison. I sighed and glanced at Crisha who just raised her brows at me and just after a second her lips twitched as it formed a naughty smirk while wiggling her brows at me. I stooped when I remembered something. “You said you were with Simon? Where is he then?” I asked her. She just shrugged before she answered me. “I don’t know, I think someone called him on the phone earlier when you’re still busy with your other guests,” She said lazily. “probably, outside.” She added and glance at those two who were busy whispering to each other. I wasn’t informed that these professional makeup artists here were active in gossiping. I smirk at my thoughts. On the other table, I saw Melinda and waved in my direction while smiling ear to ear. It seems like she’s enjoying though, she’s not a maid tonight, she’s my guest. I saw that she was wearing a formal outfit. I sip on my pineapple juice. Somehow, I got used to those people who often have contact with me. Just like Melinda, that’s why I invited her and Shawn--- and speaking of Shawn… My forehead creased and I looked around. I invited him but I can’t see him here, only Melinda. “Where are you going? KC?” Crisha asked me when I stood up, Olivia and Luna looked at me too but did not say anything. “Excused me, I’ll just check for something… I’ll be back” I stated and didn’t wait for their reply. I made my way to Melinda’s table and she immediately noticed me. She greeted me again and the girl she was with did the same. “Where’s Shawn, Melinda?” I asked. She smiled slyly at me first before she answered. “He didn’t actually come here young lady, he was outside,” Melinda answered politely, and I saw her flushed face again. She surely has a crush on him. Huh? “Outside?” I repeated. ‘’Yes, young lady.” She answered. While the girl she was with stayed quiet and she was looking at me while her eyes glistened. I sighed and shrugged before I turned my back on them. I peacefully made my way outside. I was a bit down too ‘cause Viel hasn’t arrived yet, or will he really be here though?... I shoved it in my mind, then I just proceeded to look for Shawn. I invited him so I should at least be welcomed here. Melinda told me that she had said to Shawn what I had told her. The long and broad pathway to the gate that was in front of our mansion was decorated with gold lights which made it look so enchanting, just like a fairytale. “Why are you here, Milady?” I gasped when suddenly a voice of a man appeared on my back. I held my chest because I was shocked for a second before I turned around to see who it is. And now, in front of me was Shawn. He was in a formal suit, and by just looking at his stance and overall looks tonight, no one will believe that he was working as my driver. ‘’ I was looking for you. i invited you, remember? You shouldn’t be here outside.” I stated. I saw how his eyes glistened as if I had just spilled something so beautiful. And a moment after, a wide smile formed on his lips as he nodded repeatedly like a kid. I can’t help but to chuckle at that. I was about to say that we should get inside when someone called me. “KC?” The familiar voice of a man appeared on my right. I looked at him and I confirmed that it was Simon, Viel’s cousin, he was here outside too. Well, Crisha already said that a while ago. “Oh, It’s you!” Simon uttered and walked near us, I caught him giving a look to Shawn before he face me. “Why are you here outside?” He asked, frowning and glancing once again at Shawn. “I just invited him, inside,” I answered. “by the way, he’s Shawn,” I said, and I turned to look at Shawn. “He is Simon,” I introduced them to each other, and they just nodded. “I haven’t got the chance to greet you earlier. Happy birthday, beautiful,” Simon greeted. I smiled and thanked him. I felt the cold breeze of the night touching my skin and I saw how they both took off their coat and handed it to me at the same time. I was confused about whom I should choose because it seemed that they wanted me to choose both. Until a very familiar car stopped right in front of us, which made my heart begin losing its calm rhythm.
