“LEE,” ALEX SAYS WHEN Liam finally picks up the phone a few days later. It’s late afternoon, Paul is at work, and Alex is on the couch with Todd stretched out next to him. “I know what you’re shooting. And I know you have people who will take care of you. And I don’t know why you’re like this, but some of this is my fault and some of it is about me. What do you need from me?”
Liam takes a breath that Alex can hear all the way down the line. And then he tells Alex what he needs. This is how they have always worked and Alex is glad they still do, despite what Liam’s request turns out to be. Paul’s probably going to freak out. Alex has to figure out if that’s a reasonable response before he’s confronted with it.
