34 Kira sucked in a startled breath as her mind made sense of the bulk of shadow on the basement landing below. It moved without warning into a standing position. Kira spared a glimpse over her shoulder and winced. She and Trevor were clearly outlined in the bits of sunlight filtering through the larger windows of the main floor. There was no way the person waiting on the landing hadn’t seen them. She threw herself down the stairs before she could think the better of it. She heard Trevor’s muffled curse behind her as she landed hard against the man on the landing. A wave of pain from all her injuries went through her as her opponent broke her fall.
