The next day I had found myself in the library again. Not just to read some more but because ever since Logan showed me this place, it’s been one of my favorite spots.
This morning I had asked Alexander who his friend from yesterday was and he had told me it was someone from another pack who needed help but I knew that wasn’t true, it couldn’t be. I had seen it in the man. He wasn’t a werewolf, he had magic.
The fact that I felt he was hiding something from me again just made me so insecure about everything and it bugged me out like crazy.
I knew I promised I wouldn’t go to my granddad but knowing myself, I knew the more they kept stuff from me, the more I’d be drawn to the only place with answers…
So yeah, that’s why I came here. Calm down, and learn the very few things about hunters that were actually in the books. I scanned my eyes over the marks and remembered some of them on my dad. I had been sketching some of them, reading about them but my mind kept focusing on one in particular.
It was a rune that was meant to shortly control motion. It could slow down, speed up or even completely pause someone’s movement.
I couldn’t explain what it was about that one, I had drawn it multiple times but it kept appealing to me.
I sighed loudly as I drew it for like the tenth time and frustratedly ran a hand through my hair.
Screw this.
Slamming the book closed, I closed my eyes for a few seconds before tiredly stretching my body.
Sitting here doing this is only going to make me more paranoid.
I pushed myself up and swiftly left the library to get back to the house. It was the only trip out of the house I was allowed to make alone but I knew he had people following me whenever I went here. It really felt suffocating at times. Don’t get me wrong I loved it here but I couldn’t deny I was stuck…
“Oh dear, there you are”, Alexanders mother called for me as I approached the house, Logan, Amélie and Veronica on her side.
I quickly returned her smile and raised a brow as I stood in front of them “Why are you all standing outside?”
“We were waiting for you to go for a walk”, Veronica happily explained just as Logan exhaled loudly “And they’re dragging me along”
“It was the only way for Alexander to let her out for a while so shut up”, Amélie poked his side and he shook his head before stepping up to my side.
“Come on girls”, Isabelle excitingly called for us and we all quickly followed up.
“Honestly, he needs to stop making you babysit me”, I turned to Logan with an annoyed expression and he chuckled “You’re his mate, it’s natural”
“Believe me. If I finally get to be with my mate, I wouldn’t leave her out of my sight either”, he added, his eyes slightly sparkling as he mentioned the word mate. I knew it was a big deal for them but it just completely left me amazed every time I talked with a werewolf about their mate, how much love they had towards them. It felt completely surreal how they treasured them from the very first time they lay their eyes on them.
“Don’t worry my boy, you and Chris will find yours as well”, Isabelle spoke with her motherly voice and Logan softly nodded his head, a soft smile playing on his lips. I believed in that as well. He and Chris truly deserved one…
We continued for a long time, completely making me lose track of time as I absolutely enjoyed the scenery. The sights were truly captivating as the summer breeze freely danced through the treetops. We passed lakes, waterfalls, mountains and much more to a point where I even found it hard to believe it all laid in the same territory.
I found myself so lost again in the beauty of the scenes I didn’t even notice at first that my feet slowly started to hurt. These werewolves had quite the pace…
I really seemed to be the only one completely out of breath as we stopped near a little clearing, I mean we had been walking up and down hills like it was nothing and I’m a lazy couch potato.
I slowly let my back slide down one of the trees and heard a chuckle as I shortly closed my eyes “Tired already?”
I opened one eye to throw a quick glare at Logan “It’s not fair, you guys are used to this”
“Can’t someone carry me back to the house?” I pouted my lips and Logan lightly shook his head as he laughed.
“What about this?” Amélie stepped up, a slightly smirk on her face “The last on out of us two to get on top of the hill get’s to carry her all the way home”
“Great idea”, I commented happily as Logan turned with an amused expression towards Amélie “You think you’ll be faster?”
“I guess we’ll have to see, so are there any rules?” she asked, sheepishly raising a brow. Oh, she was up to something…
“No rules”, he answered boldly and Isabelle sat down next to me as she watched them with the same amused expression as me.
“You guys ready?” Veronica asked and I didn’t miss the slight smirk she threw at Amélie.
“On the count of three”, I spoke, my eyes switching between them as they went to stand next to each other.
“3” “2” “1”
And they were off…
Alexanders p.o.v.
I tiredly rubbed my face in my hands as we had stumbled on yet another dead end. This whole situation was starting to stress me out and there was nothing yet I could do about it.
I leaned back in my chair behind my desk and silently prayed some answers would turn up soon. As of right now, the only one who would find answers was Talon. He has been working with my family for as long as I can remember and he’s really one of the few I would fully trust with this. With her
“You cheated”, I got pulled out of my thoughts as I suddenly heard loud voices and laughter coming into the house.
“Did not” I heard the beautiful voice of my angel and it instantly brought a smile to my face. I quickly gathered all the papers and pushed them hastily into one of the drawers of the desk as the commotion seemed to calmly continue “Amélie only won because Veronica and you pinned me to the floor”
“Well, you said ‘no rules’” I pushed myself of the chair and walked out of the office to see them all standing in the hallway.
“Yeah, you shouldn’t have underestimated me”, my sister spoke but my eyes were glued on my mate as she clung on to the back of my third. Why on earth was she on his back?
“Alexander”, my little mate happily called for me as she noticed me standing there before a frown came to her angelic face, seeing my expression. She finally jumped of Logan’s back as I walked their way and her innocent expression already cooled me down for a great part. I don’t think she even knows the power she holds over me…
“Sweetheart”, I quickly pulled her into my arms, desperately trying to get his smell off of her. I hated others smell on her, it made my wolf go crazy and me even more. I gently rubbed my arms up and down her back before they strongly tightened around her. That’s better…
“Did you have fun on your walk?” I asked as I softly caressed her hair and I felt her nod. I didn’t even need to look up to feel the others leaving the hallway but I really needed to have a talk with someone.
“Logan”, I tried to not make my voice sound too hostile but knew I desperately failed. I pulled back from her before turning to my third as he stood there uncomfortably shifting his weight from on leg to the other. Yeah, he knew he was in trouble.
“My office”, he gave me a nod before he quickly disappeared into the hallway.
“What’s wrong?” her soft voice made me look down again and just like that, my glare evaporated again.
“Nothing love, I’ll be with you in a bit okay?” I asked as I gently put some strands of hair away from her face and she gave me a soft nod, a beautiful smile grazing her lips “Okay”
She shortly after disappeared into the kitchen and my expression turned cold as I took long strides towards my office. He knew damn well what the concept ‘mate’ meant yet he seemed to keep getting closer and closer with mine and it was driving me nuts.
I quickly walked in my office and loudly slammed the door behind me.
“I know you haven’t found your mate but that doesn’t mean you can just go after mine, Logan”, I knew I might have sounded like a jealous teenager but I had to say it, I had to let it out. I sat in my chair and he sighed before meeting my steely gaze.
“I do”, he spoke quietly and my eyes narrowed at him. What does he mean by that? He is going after Victoria? He better not be…
“What the f**k does that mean?” I asked, my voice loudly booming through the office.
“I have found my mate”, his words surprised me and instantly the glare dropped from my face. He has found his mate?
My brows were cast down as I looked at him confused “When? Why didn’t you tell us?”
“Almost two years now”, he answered nervously and the look in his eyes made me start thinking. How didn’t we ever see her then? Most times when werewolves mate, they almost instantly move in with each other. It’s what the bond does, it makes you feel incomplete as long as you aren’t with them. But maybe she isn’t…
“Is she human?” I asked and I saw him let out a big breath as his face was still set in a frown “It’s just complicated okay?”
I could understand that. Sometimes mate bonds between werewolves could already be confusing, let alone mixed with another supernatural or human. I really wish I could help him with this but there isn’t much I can do about this, is there? I’m just happy he has his mate so he can stay the f**k away from mine…
“Do you love her though?” the question was out of my mouth before I realised it and his eyes quickly snapped back up to mine.
“More than I ever thought possible, from the very start”, and I believed him just by the look in his eyes.
“Does she love you?” I asked carefully and I knew it maybe wasn’t the smartest to push further but who knew when he would talk to me again about this. Logan is a very social and fun guy but talking about his own problems is something he’s never been good at.
“I don’t know man”, he spoke, it coming out as nothing more than a whisper.
“If you ever need any help”, I started but he already gave me a sad nod.
“I know, thanks Alexander”, he got up from the chair and made it to the door before I stopped him “Don’t give up, brother”
He shortly turned his head back to me and I was just baffled by all the emotions his eyes projected “I won’t, ever”
