Chapter 17

I raised an eyebrow, confused as he explained it again to me. “She’s just a witch from Romania, don’t worry to much about it”, he spoke, repeating the more normal part. “Yeah, that I got but how old did you tell me she was again?” I asked as I must have heard it wrong before. “963”, he stated and my eyeballs almost fell out. That’s… Wow, just wow. “I didn’t know witches lived that long” Hell, I didn’t know anything could live that long. “Most witches lifespans don’t stray much from that of humans but there are a few exceptions”, he said as if it was the most normal thing ever. And here I thought I was finally getting it all. “So what, she’s a special witch?” “She’s an elemental witch, one of five”, he explained, rubbing my thigh as I sat on his lap in his office chair. “Five?” I raised a brow at him. “There always have to be five elemental witches, no more, no less. They keep the balance of the elements; water, fire, earth, air and aether”, he confused me even more. I really should have read those books a little more carefully… “Aether?” I asked, never having heard the word before. “Basically everything beyond our world” That answer really didn’t clear much up for me “So who are we meeting?” “Seraphina, she controls fire”, he answered me and I nodded. That much I did understand. I just thought it was al so crazy that all this existed right under all our noses yet we don’t even have a clue about any of it.   I soft knock on the door made us both turn and a small woman with blackish hair entered. To any normal person she didn’t look a day over forty , which was absolutely absurd knowing her real age. “Alpha, luna”, she greeted and walked to the chair facing the desk, gracefully sitting down “What can I help you with today”. I wanted to get off of Alexander’s lap but his tightening grip made me blow out a breath and just smile to the woman in front of me. “I’m pretty sure you can already tell”, I heard his voice from behind me, his tone reminding me of the seriousness of this conversation. “I can tell this lovely lady here is a descendant. The power radiating of off her makes that pretty obvious” “Can you tell us more about it”, I asked curiously as I leaned a little over the desk. I mean, if a 963 old witch couldn’t help then who could? She nodded her head in acknowledgement before focusing her gaze on me “What would you like to know?” “How to control it and just how it all works”, I responded and I felt his arms snake around my waist, his hands taking mine in my lap. “What kind of things have been happening?” she asked and I felt Alexander slightly tense. I knew it was dangerous to talk about this with a stranger but what other choices did we have. Then again, I’m pretty sure that he knows more and he just doesn’t want to tell me. It’s kind of gotten a repeating concept with him. “It’s like I just go into tunnel vision whenever I’m scared or feel threatened and things happen before I fully understand the situation. It’s like my body is dealing with the situation before I am”, I tried, not really sure of how to summarize it. It just felt like I was pushed to the furthest corner of my body and had to watch from a distance. “Her eyes change as well”, Alexander suddenly added and I briefly turned to him. I hadn’t known that… The woman seemed to be thinking for a few moments before letting out a sigh “I’m afraid I can’t help much with that” Alexanders fists balled up as if he suddenly felt alarmed. “You can calm down alpha, it’s just because I don’t know much”, she spoke calmly where others would probably be shifting in their chair, fearing what he would do. “What do you know?”, he asked, his voice ruder than before and I softly hit his thigh. Being rude won’t do anything to help this. “I can’t tell you more than there is in the books. Things concerning the descendants are the best kept secrets there are. The only people who can tell you more are the hunters themselves”, her words left the room in silence. It really starts to become clearer and cleared that if I want answers, I will indeed have to go to them but I think those chances are very slim since, you know, I have this tall ass man constantly breathing down my neck. Not that I really minded but still. “Thanks Seraphina”, Alexander suddenly spoke while getting up, pushing me up with him. “Wait, maybe she can help w-“ “She can’t”, he cut my voice short as he turned to walk to the door. He opened it, looking at the witch and I rolled my eyes. He really doesn’t have manners, does he. I gave an apologizing look to her and she just smiled as she slowly got up. She stepped a little closer to the desk and spoke, her voice low “Focus on your instincts. Let them guide you, just don’t forget who you are in the process. That’s something I can tell” Her words slowly sank in and I took in a sharp breath as she suddenly grabbed my arm over the desk, leaning close to my ear “And be careful with who you trust. Power and fear do strange things to people”, I nodded as she narrowed her eyes at me one last time. Is that a warning for something? “Thank you Seraphina”, Alexander sounded again, a clear warning in it, and she gently let go of my arm. “I hope I see you two again”, were her last words as she passed Alexander and walked out of the office.   The door slamming made me focus on him again and I wanted nothing more than to get the frown of his face. We didn’t get much but it didn’t go that bad, did it? I walked over and slowly reached my arms around his waist, feeling him relax instantly “I’m gonna make us some coffee, join me in the kitchen?” Nothing saves the day like some 4pm coffee, right? His arms snaked around me as well and I felt him nod “Just need to make a phone call, be right there” He pressed a kiss on top of my head before stepping back. He looked tired again and at this point I think he’s having a harder time with the matter than I am. “Okay”, I gave him a smile before turning to leave his office.   It sometimes bug me. He probably expected a normal werewolf as his mate and then he got me, not just a hunter but a descendant. I knew he cared for me, hell he told me that multiple times but I knew he had worries about what I was. Walking into the kitchen, I turned to the coffee machine and turned it on. I grabbed two mugs and waited as the machine slowly started filling them. I couldn’t help but still think he was secretive as well. I didn’t need him to tell me everything, I respect his privacy but when it’s relevant information about me, then I’d like to know. Two arms coming from behind me lade ame jump slightly “What were you thinking about?” He nuzzled his face in my neck and a giggle escaped from me as I slightly leaned back in his embrace. “Nothing much”, I disregarded and turned around, handing him one of the mugs. I hopped on the counter and brought the cup to my mouth, taking a few gulps. Yeah, coffee does the trick… “You look beautiful today, love”, he warmly smiled at me as he leaned against the counters opposite of me. I looked down and chuckled, remembering I was dressed in a normal black top and some sweatpants. “Thanks”, I spoke as we just stared, both beaming at each other. Yeah, I really love this man. My man with the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen. Someone clearing their throat made my head turn and I found Chris walking in “There’s a problem again” Alexander let out a big breath before pushing himself of the counters, turning to Chris. “Let me guess, Mason started a fight with the wolves on patrol again” Chris didn’t respond but the look in his eyes gave the answer. I honestly don’t understand how Alexander keeps this place so under control, it’s crazy. And then that weird feeling came again. I’m supposed to be helping him… “I’ll be back in a bit, okay?” his voice drew me back and I gave him a quick nod. They both walked out, leaving me alone in the kitchen. I do feel at home here, I just wish I was a little more… I don’t know, beneficial? I took out my phone, finding a new message from Lisa. My grandfather better didn’t bring her another visit.   -Guess what, I’ve got a surprise for you- Lisa   -Oohh, what is it?-   -Patience, you’ll get it in a few days- Lisa That was so typical Lisa. Teasing for something but not telling the rest. I missed her though, we had known each other for years and I really needed her presence again. The voices from the hallways suddenly took my attention as I put my phone away again. Hopping of the counter, I put the mug down and walked into the hallway to see Isabelle standing at the doorway. I looked over her shoulder and found an older man standing there. He wasn’t tall and had a longer grey beard but something about him made the hairs on my arm stand up. “Focus on your instincts”, the words of the witch came back into my mind and I took a deep breath, attentively taking in every detail about him. My breathing slowed a little and out of nowhere my vision changed, emitting all sorts of new things. I firstly stared at Isabelle as a cloud of reddish smoke surrounded her, giving me a feeling of safety and warmth. I felt myself smile at this new discovery and focused on the man in the doorway. Purple, he had a purple haze around him and as if with the snap of a finger I knew he wasn’t human. He had magic, I could feel it. The purple was a lighter color and it was like it told me not to fear them but at the same time be careful as the were dangerous.   Suddenly all the colors disappeared again as Alexander came to stand in front of me. “Who’s that?” I asked as he blocked the view of the man. Not that that was very hard with those shoulders. “Just an old friend of mine”, he spoke, his voice casually but something was telling me this wasn’t just a visit from a friend, call it my sixth sense. “I’ll probably be gone for a few hours so don’t stray too far, okay?” “Wow, I’m allowed to leave the house alone?” I smiled brightly, a brow raised. His eyes darted to somethings behind me and I rolled my eyes when I found who he was looking at. Spoke to fast… “You’re making Logan babysit me again?” “It’s for your safety, sweetheart”, he said quickly, pressing a kiss on my forehead before turning his gaze back to Logan “Stay close to her”. “No problem, alpha”, Logan chirped, throwing his arm around my shoulder. “Not that close”, Alexander instantly threw his arm back of off me and couldn’t help but chuckle at the glare he send Logan. “Just go, your friend is waiting”, I told him and his eyes softened a bit as he looked back at me. “I’ll be back soon”, he said again and I nodded, him taking a few more glances between Logan and I before finally going outside. “Do you know who his friend is?” I whispered to Logan as the two disappeared in a car, driving off a few seconds later. “Nope, never seen him”, Logan answered before closing the door and turning his body to me “So what do you want to do?” “I’m not sure. Wanna have a Harry Potter marathon?” I suggested and his response came almost instantly “Heck yeah” I chuckled, shaking my head as I searched for my phone in my pocket. “Can you go get some snacks, I have to make a phone call” “I’m on it”, he ruffled my hair and sprinted to the kitchen. I smiled as I watched him disappear before searching for the contact, pressing the call button.   “Hey honey, is everything alright?” my dad’s worried voice came through and a smile quickly came to my face “Yeah dad, everything is okay” “That’s great, how are you doing?” he asked. “I’m fine, I just wanted to ask you something”, I started, hoping I’ll get some complete answers this time. All these half-answers are honestly giving me a headache. “Shoot” I took a moment to brace myself and quickly threw out the question “The whole descendant thing, is it real?” I heard him sigh on the other side and I knew it was a touchy subject. Touchy was even a light explanation, me being the descendant is what got us in all this s**t in the first place. “I need to know dad”, I begged. “It is real, very real” “What is known about them? Someone told us only hunters know”, I repeated the witches words but felt disappointed again with his next words “I just know that they’re the most powerful of hunters, meant to do great things” “Nothing else?” “Only a select group of us are allowed that information honey. Descendants are so rare that many generations never even get to encounter one” So my grandfather really is the only one with answers. But am I really considering this? “Don’t go to him Victoria, the prize won’t be worth the cost”, dad spoke as if he read my mind by the hesitation in my voice. “Don’t worry, I won’t. Plus I’m under strong surveillance so my escape chances are very slim anyway”, I chuckled, dads relieve instantly heard “It’s for the best anyway” “Motherfucker”, I yelled out loudly as Logan out of nowhere pushed my shoulder. He pointed upstairs, snacks in his hand and I nodded. God, that wasn’t good for my heart. “You shouldn’t swear so much Victoria” “I’m sorry dad”, I answered but I knew it was too late for that. Swearing was already pretty build into my vocabulary. “I guess the ‘not swearing rule’ of your mothers didn’t have much effect”, he chuckled. I shook my head before speaking “Yeah, let’s not forget that she broke that rule the most” I heard him laugh and a smile appeared on my face as well. I missed laughing with him. “You’re just like her”, he commented “Just as headstrong with an opinion on everything, you two can be quite tiring sometimes” “Yet you still always start up arguments. Why start one if you know we don’t back down”, I laughed as I thought back at all the conversations at dinner. Dad would make a comment and mom and I would always group up together to tell him how stupid of a comment it was. “Because it always made me proud to see how smart you were and how you would always voice your thoughts, regardless of the situation”, making the conversation more emotional and I found myself missing my family again “I miss you dad” “I miss you too Victoria but we’ll see each other again soon”, dad spoke in a calm voice and I took a deep breath “I love you dad” “We love you more, be safe okay?” “I will”, I responded. “By honey”, he hung up and I quickly put my phone away. I really want to go visit them again soon.   I turned to the stairs and quickly hopped to the right floor, seeing Logan already ready as I walked into the movie room. Yes, movie room. They have a movie room here… “You ready to go to Hogwarts?” Logan made me laugh as he spoke in the worst British accent I’d ever heard. “I’m ready”, I threw myself on the couch but briefly turned around as the door had opened again. “Can I join?” Amélie asked, excitingly holding up a bag of chips. “Of course”, Logan answered as he sweetly smiled at her and patted the empty space next to him. Amélie sat down but we both turned to Logan as he shook his head “I was talking to the snacks” “Auwch”, he cried out as Amélie had hit the back of his head again “You deserved that asshole” I smiled as the two bickered and reached out for the remote. Pressing play, the two went quiet as the familiar tune started playing.   Alexander p.o.v. I tiredly walked into the house, closing the door behind me. That conversation lasted longer than I had intended, I had to keep reminding me it was important. Everything about Victoria is important. I sniffed around, following her scent upstairs and into the movie room. It was still hard to locate her like that but the last couple of days it had been easier and I wasn’t sure why. My first guess was that it had to do with her getting stronger everyday which made the earlier conversation even more urgent. I opened the door and found her with Amélie and Logan, watching some movie. Logan’s head snapped my way and that’s when I noticed the girls were already fast asleep. Not surprising since it was already way past midnight. Snacks, drinks and empty pizza boxes laid around to room, indicating she probably had a good time. I wasn’t quite happy with how close Logan was sitting to my mate though and I made a mental note to talk to him later. They have been really close lately and I know he hasn’t found his mate yet but that doesn’t mean he can go after mine. “She waited for you”, I looked at her as Logan spoke and smiled as she laid there, all cute and innocent. My little troublemaker. “I know it’s non of my business”, Logan spoke again, making me look at him “But you should tell her about Talon, Alex” “You’re right”, I walked over to my little mate and softly picked her up before turning to Logan again “It’s non of your business” I know I was just being stubborn but I was doing this for her, for us.   Walking us to our room, I gently laid her down and carefully took off her sweatpants. No perverted thoughts, I just know she doesn’t like too much on when she sleeps. I quickly threw my clothes of as well and crawled under the blankets. I pulled her closer and I felt her softly move before her lips moved. “You stayed away for a long time”, she whispered but her eyes stayed closed, her face still relaxed. “I’m here now”, she snuggled into me as I pressed a kiss on her head and I close my eyes as well “Goodnight, love”
