Chapter 16

1970 Words
My eyes lingered once again between the two dresses in front of me, still not sure what to pick. Alexander was taking me out again and told me to put on a ‘summery dress’. “Red or blue?” I walked out of the closet, holding up the two dresses. Alexander momentarily looked up from his phone as he laid with his back against the headboard of the bed, looking devilishly handsome as always. “You could wear a paper bag and you would still look absolutely perfect to me”, he smiled at me, making me sigh. Compliments are nice but they don’t help me make choices. “Red or blue?” I asked again and he let out a laugh.  “Red”, he answered, shaking his head before getting back to his phone. Yeah, men really have it too easy… I walked back into the closet and put on the dress. Racking my hands a few times through my hair, I quickly took in my appearance in the mirror before putting on some shoes “Are you really sure it’s a good time to go out?” “Of course. We have to enjoy every moment before something inconvenient happens again, Victoria”, I heard him say back from the room. “Inconvenient seems to happen a lot these days”, I muttered as I stepped out the closet, closing the door behind me. “All the reason more to go out”, he looked back up from his phone but started sheepishly smiling as he scanned me in the dress. He got up from the bed, taking slow strides towards me. “Yeah”, he stopped just in front of me, his hands finding their place on my waist. “What?” I asked as he didn’t finish his sentence. “Red was definitely the right choice”, he spoke, making me smile “You look amazing, love” I saw his eyes grow darker again and I felt hypnotized, it was a sight I could watch all day. I frowned when he turned his eyes away. “What are you doing?” “I don’t want you to think I’m pressuring you”, he melted my heart. I reached up and placed my hand on his cheek, making him look at me. “Are you?” “No”, he instantly responded and my face lighted up even more. I love him and his eyes are just as perfect as the rest of him if not more. “Then don’t hide them”, I whispered  “I think they’re beautiful”  He took in a sharp breath and out of nowhere shook his head like a dog would, stepping back to the bed to grab his phone. “Let’s leave. I think if we wait much longer, we won’t even get there”, he spoke, making me chuckle. He kept his eyes on the floor and seemed to have a hard time with control but the way he gently grabbed my hand and led me out the room, made any possible bad feeling already disappear again.   He took me out, deep in the forest and I couldn’t help but happily skip behind him. We stopped at a small clearing and my face instantly started beaming when I saw what he had planned. A blanket laid spread out over the grass and a basket stood at the side, candles placed all around the clearing. “You like it?”, he squeezed my hand slightly as his eyes were focused on my face. I laughed and turned to him, raising one of my brows “Who did you busy with lighting up all those candles?”. “Yeah, you better tell Amélie and Logan you liked them or they’ll throw a tantrum”, he chuckled, racking his hand quickly threw his golden locks. “Are you hungry?”, I nodded and he led us to the blanket, the both of us sitting down.   The basket itself was filled to the brim with food and the next forty minutes, he made sure I tried everything that the basket had contained. Let’s just say, laying down against him to watch the sun disappear in the treeline was a good idea. The both of us just looked ahead as the sky turned from bright blue to orange to black. His hands played with mine as I sat between his legs, just talking about everything and nothing. “I just have mad respect for them”, I said as I explained why I looked up to doctors and nurses. “They do everything in their power to save lives and I think that’s awesome”, I added and I felt him chuckle. “So that’s what you were gonna do when you finished school?” “I didn’t really have anything planned but I think it definitely would have been something where I could help people ”, I said, adjusting myself sideways so I could look at him. “How about you?” I asked him “If there wasn’t any alpha’s or hunters or whatever. If you were just completely ordinary, what would you do?” “I would take you and I would travel the world. I would take you to every corner of the earth until we found the place were we could be truly happy and start a family”, he immediately spoke, a happy expression on his face. I just thought it was funny and sweet though that his normal, mundane dream life still involved me. “What would make you think we would know each other?” “Because I can’t imagine living a life where you’re not in it. Even if the both of us were humans, I know that we’d find each other”, he explained as if life really only existed out of happy endings. “So you think that destiny has it so that in every life we could of end up in, we’d end up together?” “That’s true love, my love”, he stated, putting away some hair from my face and leaving chills wherever he touched. “You believe in that?” I asked softly but I could already see the answer in his eyes. Suddenly he stood up, holding his hand out for me to take “I can show you”. “And how’s that?” I spoke as he gently pulled me up to stand in front of him, his hand not letting go of mine. “Close your eyes”, he whispered and I gave him a doubtful look. What is he getting at? “Do you trust me?” Stupid question. “Yes but I-“ “Then keep your eyes closed”, he told me again and so I did. I felt him press a light kiss on my forehead shortly before he pulled me away from our picknick. My feet touched the cold, damp grass and after a few minutes of walking, I could hear running water in the distance.   We stopped and I could feel chills of excitement and fear go over my body. He let go of my hand and for a few seconds, the sound of the water was all I heard. A shiver went up my spine as I suddenly felt his presence behind me. I felt him press a kiss on my shoulder and I couldn’t help but feel nervous yet excited for what he had planned. It was when he pushed the straps of my dress off my shoulders, leaving me in my underwear, that I took in a sharp breath “What are y-“ “Shh”, he silenced me as I felt the warmth of his breath on my neck. His arms snacked around me and pulled me against him, making me notice he had gotten rid of some of his clothing as well. What is he doing… Another kiss got pressed on my shoulder before he slowly turned me around, his arms still securely circled around me. “Jump up”, he whispered and my brows slightly shot up. Damn, I really want to open my eyes. “Trust me”, he told me again and I did. I do trust him. I jumped up and his arms instantly caught me, my legs tightly around his waist. This was nerve racking. “Ready?” he asked, mischief clear in his voice. Oh boy… “Yeah”, I answered in a whimper and I heard him chuckle. He pressed a short kiss on my lips and out of nowhere he started running. My heart almost leaped out of my chest and I clung on to him as I suddenly felt him jump of something. Not even a second later, I felt the us go under water. The water surrounded the both of us and I instantly started working my limps to swim up. Coming up from the surface, I took long breaths and my eyes directly darted to the man who was giving me an innocent smile. “Alexander”, I whined and I heard him chuckle, the sound itself already calming me. I just shook my head and my eyes finally started taking in our surroundings. It was a small lake, surrounded by rocks that at a higher point even created a small waterfall. The branches of the trees around hung long and low over the lake and the bushes perfectly circled the water, making it look like a perfect hidden away treasure.   “This is so beautiful”, I turned back to him with wide eyes as he smiled at me. He came closer to me again, placing a hand on my cheek “It doesn’t even come close to your beauty”. And there he made my heart race again. The sudden shine of red that lighted his face made me look up, my mouth falling open with the sight above us. “Are those fireflies?” I asked baffled as they calmly flew all over the lake, even lighting up the water. They couldn’t be. I’d never seen fire red fireflies. “No”, he answered, looking up at them as well. “Then what are they?” “There are many names for them but we call them whispers”, he spoke softly “They can project someone’s true emotions” “That’s amazing”, I stared at them as their color even made the moon appear red. “Blue stands for fear, green for a mind at ease, yellow for happiness”, he trailed off, getting lost in their beauty as well. It was incredible… “What’s red?” I asked, my eyes coming back to his face as he was still looking up. “Love”, he spoke softly as his eyes slowly came back to meet mine “Red means true love”. I was at a total loss of words and just stared at him, like it was the last time I could drown in those enchanting green eyes. If this is what true love feels like, I don’t ever want to lose it. “And I goddamn do”, he whispered, his face so close to mine I felt his breath tickle my face. “What?” “Love you”, he confessed and slowly leaned forward, pressing his lips against mine. I felt the electricity buzz all over my body as he pulled me up against him, his arms tight around me. His lips gracefully moved against mine, warming up my body to a point I wouldn’t believe it was healthy. My arms wrapped around him as well, scared I ever had to let go of what I’m feeling. He doesn’t know it but he owns me in every way. My body reacts with fireworks every time we touch, my mind seems to be constantly occupied by him and my heart beats solely for him. My soulmate. My true love. I believe him. He gently pulled back and rested his forehead against mine as he kept my body still securely pressed against his. Both our eyes stayed closed and I focused as my every emotion I ever felt for him grew stronger. It was enchanting, soul connecting, absolutely magical… “Open your eyes”, I did and the blanket of lights that was previously red had turned bright yellow, warming up the forest all around us. “Why are they yellow?” “Because”, he stopped, taking my hand and placing it on his heart “You are my happiness”. I felt so entranced in the moment. It felt like a dream, one I never wished to wake up from. “And no matter what happens or what tries to stand between us, you will always be right here” “I love you”, I told him, my heart completely struck by the emotion of it. I love him, more than anything before.
