Chapter 15

“Tori?” I heard a whisper beside me ear, so soft I wasn’t sure if I’d imagined it or not. “Tori, wake up”, I slowly open my eyes to see my little brother standing at the side of my bed. “What’s wrong?” I asked softly. “The sun’s about the go up”, he said excitingly and a smile immediately came to my face. I knew what he meant. I slowly lifted Alexander’s arm off of me and stretched my arms out before looking back at Jake. “Come on”, he said quietly and impatiently took my hand, pulling me out of the bed. I was happy that I could always sleep in the past month but I’d easily give up those few extra hours of sleep to watch the sunrise with my little brother, just like old times. We walked quietly down the stairs and he took my outside, making me sit down with him on the porch. The dark sky was already slowly turning a light orange as the birds slowly started waking up too. Neither of us spoke any words as we both patiently waited for the first rays of the sunlight. When they came, I momentarily closes my eyes to enjoy it’s warmth and the peace it gave me. “I missed this”, I said, smiling at Jake before pulling him closer and resting my arm around his shoulder. “I missed you too”, he whispered, resting his head against me while my eyes slightly watered. We both stayed there, completely forgetting time, until I heard the door behind us open. “I should have known you two were here”, I turned around to my mother as she smiled at us fondly. “Good morning”, I returned her smile and took a deep breath, enjoying more of the fresh air. “You two ready for breakfast?” she asked and we both nodded, Jake almost sprinting back inside. This kid would do anything for food… We both just laughed, looking in the direction he just disappeared before I looked back at my mother. “He’s looking for you”, she told me and I nodded, getting up as well. I passed my mother and stepped back inside to look for Alexander. Stepping in the kitchen, I found Logan, Ashton and Jake already working away all the food away from the table while dad just shook his head at them, drinking some coffee. “Where’s Alexander?” I asked when Logan briefly looked up but got my answer when I felt two arms go around me. “Looking for me?” A smile instantly came to my face as I slightly leaned back. “No, I heard you were looking for me”, I chuckled but he just nestled his face in my neck. “I’ll be in my office”, my dad made me blush slightly as he awkwardly walked out the kitchen. The other boys were to busy eating to notice us. “I missed you when I woke up”, he pressed a kiss on my shoulder and I just hummed in response. I was already surprised I got out of his grip. “We’re going back after breakfast”, he told me and I turned around to press a kiss on his lips, my arms going around his neck “Okay”   Goodbye with my parents and Jake still wasn’t fun and I still felt bad for leaving but I knew that it was the best option for now. I waved them goodbye one last time and followed Alexander to the car as he gently held my hand in his. He opened the car door and pressed a kiss on my forehead. I put a first leg in the car but turned around when I noticed he had started walking towards the other car. “Hold up, why are you taking the other car?” “Logan’s taking you home and I have to go to an even later”, he shrugged. “What event?” “It’s a ball for the alpha of the important packs. Just a stupid charity thing”, he casually explained. Why isn’t he taking me? I always wanted to go to a ball, sounds super fancy. “I want to come”, I said but he instantly crossed his arms over his chest “No”. “Why not?” I asked, putting on puppy eyes. “It’s too dangerous”, he spoke, coming to stand in front of me again. “How is that? I’d be with you and why would hunters even dare to go there?” I tried to reason. “Victoria”, he whined and I took that as my indication to push further. “I’m supposed to be your luna, no?” “She’s got a point”, Logan chuckled but shut up the moment he received a glare from Alexander. “You’re not gonna take no for an answer, are you?” he sighed deeply and I smugly shook my head. “Fine”, he said and I threw my arms immediately around his neck. Finally.. “You’re gonna be the death of me woman”, he spoke in my ear and picked me up, carrying me with him to the other car.   The drive to the event was incredibly long and I almost regretted asking to come with. We arrived a few hours beforehand and Alexander got some professionals to help me get ready, which was nice but tiring at the same time. I hate sitting still, definitely when it lasts longer than an hour. When they were finally done, I did feel really beautiful. They had defined my curls a bit more and put me in a beautiful emerald green dress that snatched my waist but flowed all the way down. Stepping out, Alexander started asking me again if I was sure I wanted to go or if it wasn’t better for me to go home. We ended coming to an agreement; I stay with him at all time without arguing.   “Don’t you dare leave my sight”, he reminded me again when we entered the big hall but my eyes just darted around the majestic room. If that wasn’t impressive enough, the people definitely were. They just oozed of power and dominance, it was quite intimidating. Everything about this was just crazy… “You look beautiful”, Alexander whispered in my ear and that’s when I noticed I had stopped walking. I smiled at him and tightened my grip on his arm before we both started walking again. It was actually pretty crazy, if you had no idea about the supernatural world then you would be completely oblivious to the fact that you were surrounded by werewolves…   “Here we are”, Alexander held a chair out for me to sit on before he sat down himself, followed by his mother and Chris. I hadn’t even seen them come in. A waiter went around the table and filled all our glasses with wine. “Hello dear”, Isabelle gave me a smile which I instantly returned “Hey Isabelle”. “I’m surprised he let you come”, she chuckled, taking the glass and taking a few sips. “So am I”, Alexander mumbled before drinking from his own wine. “Either way, I’m glad you’re here”, she told me and shortly after other waiters started filling our tables with food.   During most of the dinner, multiple people came over to our table, having a conversation with Alexander about all sorts of stuff I didn’t understand. It annoyed me yet I understood at the same time. It was just a whole different world from the one I grew up in, I can’t just expect to understand everything in such a short time. “Alexander, it’s nice to see you again”, another man around the same age as Alexander approached us, a stunning woman on his arm. She looked absolutely beautiful, her raven black hair making her stand out. Let’s not forget the big belly that indicated she was heavily pregnant. “Matteo, April, this is my mate Victoria”, Alexander proudly introduced me and they both brightly smiled at me. “Congratulations by the way”, Alexander told April as she gently laid her hands on her stomach. “Yeah, we got our next alpha on the way”, she answered and took my hands in hers. “We’ll leave you two alone for a bit, I’d prefer some girl talk”, April said and I saw Alexander tense slightly. “I’ll be okay”, I whispered and April immediately spoke up “Don’t worry Alexander, I’ll bring her back in one piece” “Don’t go too far”, he sternly said, finally letting me go.   “It appears he’s pretty protective of you”, she told me as we stepped away from the guys. I could still feel his eyes on me but just focused my attention on April. “That’s true but isn’t that the same with all of them”, I said, curious if it was a werewolf thing or just an Alexander thing. We both sat down at two empty chairs that still looked out on the whole room full of people having conversations of their own. “Yeah, I guess it’s just kind of in our nature. Just wait till you get pregnant”, she told me with a smile, resting her hand on her belly again. “I think that’s a bit early, I’m only 19”, I chuckled but her question stopped me “And how old do you think I am?”. “You’re 19?” I asked her a little shocked. It’s not that I have something against it but it just seems a little inconvenient at such a young age. “I’m 18”, she spoke and my brows instantly shot up. What now? “Most werewolves tend to start a family early”, she explained and laughed when looking at my face. I just hope Alexander is not expecting me to start popping out babies soon… “Was it hard?” she asked, grabbing my attention again. “What?” “Finding out about all this, as a human I mean” Right, these people don’t know I come from a family of hunter. Still, I grew up just the human way. “Confusing, to say the least. It still is sometimes but I’m getting used to it”, I spoke and she nodded in understanding. “Do you know where the restroom is?” I asked her and she pointed to a hallway behind us “It’s behind the corner”. “I’ll be right back”, I told her and got up. Should I inform Alexander? Let’s not, I think I can manage going alone to the bathroom. I went in and walked in one of the stalls, doing my business. Not even a minute later I was done and got out before walking over to the sink to wash my hands. See, I managed just fine. I dried my hands with a towel and turned my head when I saw the door open. “Sorry sir, you’re in the ladies room”, I said when I guy stepped in. He looked pretty handsome and muscular but he didn’t even look close to as strong as the other alphas or betas. I threw the towel in the basket and looked up to see the guy still there, now blocking the door. “Excuse me”, I told him, trying to get passed but he just put his arm up to block the way completely. “Looking for some company?” a smile came on his face and nervousness started to consume me. Maybe I should have listened to Alexander. “Can you just let me through please?” I tried again but he shook his head at me, stepping closer until he had me trapped against one of the doors of the stalls. “Please stop, I’m here with someone”, I said, trying to pry his hands off of me but he was way stronger. My breath started to quicken and I nervously started looking around for help. He leaned into my neck and I turned away as he whispered close to my hear “No one has to know”. Shit… “Just let me go”, I tried again but he just continued moving his hands lower and lower. Suddenly all the fear and nerves were replaced by anger. It was like that time when I was captured by the hunters. I was able to hear his heartbeat as he disgustingly continued his assault. When his hands were about to reach too low, I pushed him back on instinct. Only thing was, I didn’t push. It was like he was pushed back by air. My breath quickened even more and everything around me blurred out, my sole focus on the threat in front of me. I was completely in trance once again. “What the hell?” he spoke angrily and proceeded to come closer again. Just like the last time, before he could reach me, he got pushed back and landed harshly against the wall behind him. Slowly approaching him, we picked him up by the neck but we didn’t use our hands. My eyes almost bulged out as I was completely fixed on the danger in front of me. His face turned red and after a while almost purple. He was hurting us. Just the thought made the grip around his neck tightened as I angrily looked into his eyes. They slowly started to flicker closed and that’s when realised what I was doing. Wait I immediately dropped him. I was killing him… This is just like last time… I can’t do that again… I finally looked away from him and that’s when I started to feel it again, but this time all around me. He not just the danger, they’re all around me. “VICTORIA”, I finally noticed the banging on the door yet no movement came from it. “It’s me”, the moment I recognized his voice, the door opened as if it listened to my command. “What’s going on?” Alexander worriedly stepped in the room and looked confusedly between me and the man on the floor, who was now staring back at me. “Her eyes”, the man whispered and cowered away even more “She’s the descendant”. I turned to Alexander and felt myself panic even more. Why is he saying that? “Victoria, relax”, he placed his hands reassuringly on my shoulders. “It’s not just something I can turn off, okay”, I yelled as my eyes scanned the door to get out. “Look at me, there are no threats here. They’re friends”, he spoke and it helped me slightly. Just calm down… “That’s it”, he said before pulling me in his arms “You’re okay”. He rubbed my back and we both stood there until my breathing had completely evened out. “Chris, take him out”, I heard Alexander say, followed by movement but he didn’t let me pull away. “Where are you taking him?” I asked and he pulled back just enough to look at me. “What happened here can’t come out”, he spoke sternly, the look he gave me scaring me. “But why?” “If it does, you won’t just be in danger from the hunters but from other werewolves as well”, he explained, making me even more confused. “Is it true? Am I a descendant?” I asked and he sighed, overwhelming yet again by something new. Why am I always finding out this way? “There is a prophesy, one that’s feared by almost every werewolf”, he said as I just looked at him with big eyes, waiting for him to continue. “It’s said that the descendant, mated to an alpha, shall be the one that wins the war between supernaturals”, he explained. “But I don’t understand, why does that make me a target?” I spoke rapidly. “Because some would just try to kill you to avoid the possible danger and other would try to use you to control the supernaturals”, he pulled me close again and exhaled deeply “I won’t let that happen, I don’t care what I have to do to keep you safe” “I’m scared”, I told him softly and he instantly looked worried “Why?”. “Because I hurt people when I get in that trance”, I admitted, not sure if I’d be able to control it in time next time. “Don’t worry, it’s only when you’re threatened”, he tried calming me down but I just pulled back. Those are lies. I don’t know when I’ll happen. It could happen anytime, with anyone… “You don’t know that” “I do know that, you wouldn’t hurt someone innocent”, he said, pulling me back by my shoulders. “Then did you know that I snapped the necks of those hunters when Ashton and I were captured. I didn’t even have to use my hands, I just thought about it and it happened”, I blurred out, closing my eyes just by the thought of what had happened. “They deserved what they got”, he gritted through his teeth. “That’s not the problem. I just don’t have control over it”, I cried out and he hugged me again, leaving no space to push back “We’ll fix this”. “How?” I asked softly, feeling him rub his hand up and down my back. “I don’t know yet”, he spoke before resting his chin on my head “But we’ll do it together”.
