The Abyss
A plate crashed against a mahogany paneled wall. The maid ran out of the room in fear as the young master roared out in pain and fury. He was blind. He remembered the crash but the intense flash of a flare or something equally bright caused him permanent damage to his eyes. All he could see was darkness.
Mordecai Morningstar was a man the world feared and respected at the same time. He was the Chairman and CEO of a massive Entertainment Corporation. Mount Olympus Entertainment. He rewrote the rules so actresses and models didn’t have to visit with producers and endorsers so they could get resources. He dredged the industry of the CEOs who forced them to go to hotels and bars. He became a hero to Actresses and Models because he made it so that resources were earned through merits and reputation. Not connections. If you knew someone and had a reputation for being a slut, you won’t be picked for roles or endorsements.
But a car accident brought the Entertainment Mogul to his knees. His legs were shattered and he was blind. His board members took over the company and put his uncle in charge. The only thing Mordecai made sure of was in the contract for the acting CEO was that he couldn’t change anything without Mordecai’s approval. Effectively tying his Uncle’s hands. This way the women and men won’t suffer because of this.
He hated that he was brought low by blindness. Broken legs, he could heal from. But losing his sight would cause him problems with his board members. He had to find a way to overcome this and take back his company.
Not even his Fiance stood by him.
"Sir, your therapist is waiting to enter."
"Enter."
A soft humming sound greeted his ears. "Good morning, Mordecai. I am Dr. Stone. Today we will learn how to recognize the direction a sound is coming from." Her voice was beyond soft. It was hard to tell where it was coming from. "Depending on how keen your hearing is. This may be a long or short session. I had Randall place bells around the room, and when I signal him. He will sound the bell. I will tell you where it is coming from and you just have to remember which bell is in which direction." The soft click of high heels on the wood floors grew closer to Mordecai as he sat in the wheelchair near the open window. "How is your mood today? Your recovery speed depends on your mood. The happier you are, the faster you will heal."
"Dr. Stone, His fiance decided she was better off without him." Randall spoke up. "Oh. I am so sorry, Mordecai. She doesn't deserve you anyway."
"Who deserves to be tied to a man stuck in a wheelchair chair, Doctor?"
He wasn't expecting an answer. Yet warm arms hug him out of the darkness. "Everyone deserves to feel loved Mordecai, even you."
She was so soft in his arms.
"Can you do something for me Doctor?"
"If it will help with your recovery, I can do it."
"Marry me."
Raven was stunned. She was never asked for her hand so blatantly before, by a patient no less. She laughed. "Well Mordecai, if it will help your mood and keep you positive, then how about this. I'll marry you, if you can stand at the altar, without the help of crutches or a walker. I'll allow a cane, they look so sophisticated."
For the first time in so long. Mordecai smiled. The next hour was filled with the sound of bells and Mordecai putting in the effect to recognize the direction the sound came from. If Dr. Stone wanted him to get better, then he would do it. For her.
