CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE
"I hate you, Mum". I slammed the door behind me, leaving my mum bewildered in the living room. She had gone through my phone and deleted some of my chats she said 'were not suitable for my age'. I'm 17, I should have privacy at this time of my life.
I was walking down the streets. I needed to clear my head. My conscience was eating me up, because I didn't mean any of the things I said. I understood my mom. I was her only child. She was just trying her best to protect me, but she can be excessive sometimes.
I walked into the woods to my usual spot. It was a large tree in the middle of the woods. It had a stone under it which served as a stool. This was my sanctuary. No school, no friends, and no mom.
It was always quiet and calm, but the air around it felt different today. The fog which lingered around the tree was still there, but it felt like there was something in it.
"Hello, is anyone there?" I asked, my knees turned weak. "This is my spot... If you want to share I...", the rustling grew louder. The creature or person— I didn't know what it was— didn't seem interested in what I had to say.
Beneath the fog, I saw drops of blood lingering around the shadow of what was coming. I stood up, heart racing as the creature came closer and closer.
"If you want the spot, you can take it. Just let me be". I heard a low growl. It was at that moment I knew I was in trouble.
I bolted into the woods, trying to get away from the creature. It seemed to be teasing me, giving me a 2 minute headstart. After a while, I heard rustling of leaves. Whatever was coming, was coming at lighting speed.
Before I knew it, I felt sharp fangs dig into my neck. It was so painful, I immediately stopped in my tracks. I felt the blood draining from my body and a hot wave of something filling me.
Is this how it ends, I thought, tears streaming down my cheeks. I haven't even told mom how sorry I am...I haven't even graduated high school. I can't go like this, I passed out.
