Viewpoint of Festus Charles!
"Festus, what is your plan?" My grandfather, Caesar Charles, looked directly into my eyes.
"Nonno, I am also considering growing our company into Asian nations. Our forays into the American continent proved to be extremely fruitful. I assume you have seen that. My goal is to take the Charles Shipping Industry worldwide. We will undoubtedly overtake all other shipping industries in the world in the near future." I spoke without missing a beat, and I watched as my grandfather's rage darkened his face.
"Festus, I am not speaking of the bloody business. You are aware of it as well." He became enraged.
Naturally, I am aware of it. But at this moment, I am not in the mood to talk about what he has in mind. Not at all, actually!
To keep my temper under control, I inhaled deeply.I adore my grandfather very much. But sometimes, he annoys me so much. Well, most of the time these days.
"Nonno, what other topics are there to discuss?" As though I could not grasp what he was saying, I questioned.
Yes, I did understand. However, I was expecting he would get the hint and move on from the subject.
Who am I fooling?
"Festus, damn you." It is about time you got a life." Grandpa remarked, rolling his eyes at me.
He is a devoted family man who does everything in his power to arrange marriages! Despite being blissfully married to my grandma Rosa for more than fifty years, he believes that everyone on the planet ought to follow in his footsteps and enter into a marriage of convenience.
What absurdity!
Family and business are two distinct things.
However, Caesar Charles never gets that. He firmly
is of the opinion that guys who lead playboy lives never take their obligations or their business seriously.
In business, it is all about a person's intelligence and cunning. Not his dedication to raising a family."
Two well-known individuals recently entered into a contract marriage in order to appease Caesar Charles's traditional beliefs. He erroneously combines personal and professional affairs. Furthermore, he declined to do business with those who do not prioritise their family.
Theron Nicolaides and Lorenzo Ferrari fell in love with the ladies they legally married, and that was only by happenstance.
"Nonno, I am a settled man." I shrugged casually, preferring to concentrate on my MacBook than to listen to the nonsense that monno is about to spout.
"Festus, you need a lady in your life." Nonno spoke firmly. I tapped myself to stop me from rolling my eyes.
"Nonno, I have far too many women in my life. Beautiful, wise women surround me on a daily basis. I do not see the need to choose one person to settle down with when I can always have my selection." I said haughtily. It is no secret that I no longer lead a rigorous lifestyle. Nonno sighed in frustration."Festus, you do not get it. It is about leaving a lasting legacy and upholding the family name."
"I can find a surrogate mother who is willing to carry my child if that worries you. There will be no compromise with the family legacy." I said absentmindedly, as though the words "IVF" and "surrogacy" would not shock my traditional and conservative grandfather.
"As Salvateres, we have always valued close family ties and the transmission of cultural traditions." With frustration, Norno said.
"No, not once more. I believe I tried that once. And how did that come to an end?" My past wounds still bothering me, I asked.
I shut down my laptop and gave my grandfather my whole attention.
"Nonno, I honour the customs and principles of our family. However, I can not endure all of it once more. Nonno, you have personally witnessed it. Given that you are aware of the impact it has had on me, how can you ask me to repeat the entire experience? Making our company successful worldwide and growing it has been my life's work. Is that not sufficient? I asked, frustrated.
Nonno gazed at me, his eyes softening.
"Festus, I am pleased with the success you have had with the company. You have exceeded my anticipations. However, I am concerned for your well-being and our family's future.
Life is about more than just employment. Softly speaking, Nonno said.
"Me contentment? It seems unlikely that your grandson will be happy, nonno." With a self-deprecating smile, I said. I observed Nonno making an effort to put on a smile, solely for my benefit. But it was not functioning.
Festus, it is been five years. Laura was gone for five years. It is about time that you moved on. said Nonno.
Laura.
I tightly clenched my eyes to prevent the memories from overtaking me as the attractive blonde with brown eyes suddenly appeared before me.
"Nonne, ram is not interested in talking about this subject any more. I hope you get it." I spoke in a half-pleading, half-stern tone.
I think Nonno noticed something on my face. So he left you there without saying anything more.N 1 sighed deeply after he had left.
I closed my eyes, and memories of Laura and our conversations filled my mind.
Overlooking the sandy shoreline, the sun is high in the sky, creating a warm, golden glow. With their fingers intertwined, Festus and Laura are resting on a beach towel. Festus sprinkling sand on Laura's foot in a humorous manner makes her laugh aloud.
"Festus, give it up!" Laura chuckled as she spoke.
It is unavoidable, you know. Just a little bit of nature's exfoliating power!" Festus grinned and said.
They both giggle as Laura swats at him in jest.
Opening his eyes, Festus struggles to control his emotions as he draws in a deep, trembling breath. He grabs the drawer and pulls it open. There he discovers a small seashell, the light from above reflected on its iridescent surface. This marine shell... It was at the beach that day that Laura found it.
She said that each layer stood for a memory we had, and that it was a representation of our love.
How could something so lovely become painful memories? Why Laura? Why did you do that?
To distance myself from those upsetting memories, I shook my head.
I am not sure how long I sat there, gazing off into the distance. It always starts like this when someone brings up Laura. Proceed! Haha! It is not as simple as it seems. I was aware of the krosk on the cabin door, which stopped my pained, meandering thoughts.
"Please enter."
When I yelled put, Dante entered.
The man on my right side is Dante Bernadi!
"Mister." When Dante called out, it was obvious from the look on his face that he was not carrying good news.
"Dante, what is that?veiled.
With every minute that goes by, the day seems to be getting worse.
"Your misgivings were incorrect. What he has been portraying for the past three years is not Ethan Wright." As he positioned a file in front of me, Dante stated. While on vacation in the UK, Melissa, my sweet little sister, fell in love with my brother-in-law, Ethan Wright, a British man.
Ethan possessed a charming personality and had successfully won our family over, just as he had won Melissa over.
Everything was fine for three years. I was only now noting that there was less and less money coming out of the company account that Ethan was handling. Since I thought of him as family, I had trusted him with the duty and ignored the accounts.
However, my PA was the one who alerted me to the disparities.
I have been watching him ever since, and my suspicions that he was not just swindling us of our money increased.
"What is the meaning of this?" I looked nervously at the file and questioned Dante.
Ethan is in a relationship. Everything about the new company he was attempting to establish in Greece was false. His mistress resides there, and they share her flat together." My heart wrenched for my sister's impending anguish as Dante stated that.
She loves Ethan so very much. How is she going to handle this devastating news?
"Who is she?" I questioned, getting angry. They would be six feet underground if I could reach them both at this moment.
It is time to expose Ehan and free my sister from this man's grasp.
My mother answered the phone at that very moment.
"Yes, mother." As soon as I answered the phone, I said.
"You are going to be an uncle, Marce."
I froze at what she said joyfully. Oh no!
