A few after homecoming, the school was back in session. Midterms were at their peak which had the school on a stress level.
Theo was at his weight class when the guys came to the locker room after a workout in the gym. Removing his shirt, Theo head to the showers and washed before changing to his clothes.
A peal of laughter came across the locker room as Theo begins to gather his belongings.
''Did you though?'' One of Asher's friends questioned him. From Theo's assumption, he knew they were talking about Chelsea.
''Nah, not yet,'' Asher said and everyone around him burst into laughter ''Don't worry, I'm being patient for now. I'm watching her closely, soon enough I'll get her to do everything if you know what I'm saying.''
They laughed and Theo interrupted. ''Everything, huh?'' He puts his towel over his shoulder.
''Grande, is there a problem?'' Asher said, folding his arms, leaning against a locker.
''Theo is my name.''
''Well, okay, Theo. But, this conversation didn't involve you.''
''Well, now it does.''
Asher lets out a grin. An evil one. He knew right there that Theo was protective, he knew that he has some animosity towards him. In fact, which makes it better, Asher knows deep down Theo likes Chelsea. Maybe even more than alike.
Theo felt it too and he couldn't ignore it; his feelings towards Chelsea were increasing over time. He always liked Chelsea, he felt she's better than the girls he's talked to or dated but he never wanted to commit to it.
He just didn't feel like there's no purpose.
''So, lemme get this straight, does it bother you when I'm with her? Chelsea?''
''I'm just saying be careful, she's a good person.''
''Oh, I know. But, that doesn't mean anything. At the end of the day she's a girl, I mean,'' he paused and laughed ''Girls get over it, they will cry and eventually get over it.''
''So you're willing to take a risk to act nice to someone then after you make them feel like s**t?'' Theo asked.
"Yeah, I'm willing to pop her cherry and make her feel like--''
Theo threw the first punch knocking Asher over. ''Grande!" Asher yells throwing a punch back. Theo can hear the oh s**t in the background. No one did anything to stop it. The two tossed and turned, punching one another until one of the coaches came in and split them up.
''ENOUGH!" Coached said, ''Two of you in my office. Now!'' He barked. ''All of you leave now, or you'll get detention,'' he continues and everyone left the scene.
Theo and Asher found themselves in the office angry at one another.
"You can have her if you want Grande, she's not even my type, " Asher said, grinning as if he had won a game or something. Theo stood up quickly and sat right back down when Coach came into the office.
''The two of you will be suspended for a week. And if you keep this up I'll have you expelled. Do you understand?'' He puts his hands on his desk.
"Answer me, gentlemen, do you understand?" He recites, making his tone a bit dull which scared Theo and Asher.
''Yes,'' Theo and Asher mumbled.
Late in the afternoon,
Chelsea came back home with her mother, Patricia after lunch with Phoebe and her mother, Janet. The four went to the mall after school to hang out, do a little shopping, and eat some sandwiches. It was also the same time when Chelsea and Phoebe found out that Theo was suspended for a week.
''Not surprised'' is what Phoebe said to Chelsea when they were at the parking lot. ''I had a feeling it was coming,''' she said to her.
Chelsea also felt it was coming. The thought of Theo even starting a fight over her met something at least. She felt conflicted, not knowing where she stands with him. Is she angry? Or Relived? Or maybe confused? Not quite sure of it.
''Honey, I'll get ready for work but I made sure you got that appointment to get your hair out, okay?'' Patricia said to Chelsea when they arrived at their home.
''Yes, mom.''
''Oh, and also--''
''--- Extras in the fridge, I know, I know,'' Chelsea replies and Patricia lets out a smile.
''Love you, bug.''
''Love you too.''
Going to her bedroom, Chelsea closes the door behind her and takes off her jacket.
''You need a hand of that.''
Chelsea jolts. ''Jesus, what are you? Spiderman?!"
Theo laughs.
''If my mom finds out you're here--''
''--Relax, I'll leave.''
''Fine, but, why were you suspended?'' Chelsea asked. Theo walks to Chelsea with this hands in his pockets. He lightly shrugged ''It was a fight.''
She rolled her eyes "Always picking a fight.''
''Well, your little boyfriend isn't so innocent.''
''He's not little.''
''You know what I mean.''
Chelsea scoffs. ''You're quite interesting, I mean one minute you're a d**k and the next you're just sending me subliminal messages. You start a fight and you can't tell me what actually happened, is it that bad?''
''He's not good for you.''
''How do you even know what's good for me--''
Just as quickly as his hands laced with hers, he kissed her. Chelsea responded with such enthusiasm that he was taken aback at first, but regained his composure and reminded himself of what was happening; he was really kissing her, she was really kissing him, and the world around them was meaningless.
And he was falling fast, craving her scent and the feel of her so close to him, unsure where he ended and she began. He had never been more grateful to have lived until now.
She was looking up at him with such an inviting warmth that he wanted to kiss her again, but it would have come off as obsessive. When he was non-respondent, she pulled away. He took a step back, heat rising to his face. "Sorry — Shouldn't have done that."
"What are you talking about?" she said softly, watching him bemusedly. "That was... it was fine."
"F- fine?" His voice was hoarse. He cleared his throat, laughing a little before she made the move to kiss him again: he had become addicted, and she knew it, but this was short and sweet.
''I, um, I should... go,'' Theo said.
''Okay,'' Chelsea whispered. The fingertips on Theo's index and middle finger compress Chelsea's lips then to her chin.
''Bye,'' He said.
''Bye.''
