Theo drank a cool beer as he remained unbothered at the party. A random girl who was tall with blonde hair, brown eyes came to Theo as prepared for the girl to talk to him.
''Theo, hi,'' she said smiling at him while she tucks a string of blonde hair behind her ear. She was wearing a two-piece set and wore the biggest blue hoop earrings. ''I heard you're single.''
''Mhm,'' Theo responded after he takes a sip of his drink.
''-- We should um, hang out sometime,'' she said, biting at the edge of her lips.
''Sure.''
''Cool, here's my number,'' the girl said and hands over Theo a slip of her number on a piece of paper. Theo puts it in his front pocket and she giggled and walked away from him.
Chelsea watched Theo walk back to the bar and wondered what the hell he was doing.
The more you watch him, the more I'm afraid that we made the wrong choice." Phoebe leaned forward and gripped her hand.
''Sorry,'' Chelsea said. ''A bit distracted.''
''I can see that.''
The two danced together as Chelsea's eyes moved to Theo and back to Ben who was standing next to Oliver and some other friends.
The party was dying down and it was getting close to midnight.
Theo was grabbed his helmet and begin to strap it as he saw Chelsea walking to him.
''Hey,'' she said.
''Hey,'' he responded.
Chelsea wanted to say something but she pulled back and said nevermind.
''Are you sure?'' Theo said, hoping that maybe she would say something. She shook her head no.
''Um,'' she cleared her throat. ''Thanks for coming.''
''Yeah, no problem.'' Theo looked past Chelsea and saw Ben leaning against his car.
''Chelsea! Let's go!'' He said from a distance which sounded very demanding.
''Call me,'' she whispered and Theo shook his head yes. He restarts his motorcycle and drove away from Chelsea as she walks to Ben who was ready to leave.
''Hey, what was that about?'' Ben asked.
Chelsea looked at Ben and responded. ''Nothing, don't worry about it.''
♡
Three in the morning and Chelsea heard Theo's voice. ''Come outside.''
''What do I wear?'' She asked.
''Doesn't matter. Just come.''
Chelsea looked down at her sweatpants and grabbed her sneakers quickly putting them on before she left. She takes her keys puts them inside of her tiny backpack and heads downstairs where Theo was.
Theo tossed her a helmet and she strapped it in while he gets ready to take off. Within a split second, she wraps her arms around his waist as the two set it off on the street.
The wind danced through her hair as they cruised down. Chelsea couldn't hold back but smile and rest her head on Theo's back. They drove down passing the city looking at tall buildings, listening to cars honking, and a glimpse of music around the corner.
Finally, Theo came to a destination at a beach and they took off their helmets together. Theo wanted to make sure that she was okay. Because he knew she really wasn't.
''Watch your step,'' Theo said, gently grabbing her hand and let her sit down next to him. He takes off his leather jacket and wraps it around Chelsea. Theo then sits down and pulled his legs closer to his chest.
''Thanks for the gift,'' Chelsea said to him, giving his full attention.
''Um, yeah, you're welcome.''
''I knew it was you.''
Theo's brows rise, confused as to what Chelsea meant by that. ''What?''
''The elephant. It was your idea, wasn't it?''
Theo let out a short laugh. ''Yeah, it was. How'd you figure it out?''
''I mean, it was obvious. You, my mom, and Phoebe are the only ones that know I'm obsessed with that animal,'' she laughed which made Theo laugh too. ''There's no way Ben knew.''
''Yeah,'' Theo said in a whisper.
''But, I can't help it when it comes to him. He's so charming and funny and you know he's perfect.''
''No one's perfect,'' Theo said under his breath.
''To me he is.''
''Well, I hope he's treating you right.''
''Or what you'll kill him,'' Chelsea responded with a laugh and Theo gave her that look like 'You know what I'm capable of doing.
''Yeah, something like that.''
''Mhmm.''
Theo and Chelsea sat in silence as the two listen to the sound of the waves crashing down on the shore. The two liked that they could be around each other even if they are not doing much.
Chelsea then said to Theo. ''I'm sorry about Diana.''
Theo looked over and placed his head down. He didn't think that Chelsea would bring her name up around. His heart hammered quickly thinking about the breakup and what happened after.
''I'm sorry, I- I didn't mean-,'' Chelsea quickly came up with words to change the subject but it was already too late. Um, no." She looked down at her feet that were brushed on the sand. "Sorry, sorry I brought that up. I forget that you don't want to talk about it.''
''It's fine,'' Theo's voice hoarse and he cleared his throat nervously. ''Another time, but not now.''
Theo stood up from the ground up and extend his arm to Chelsea so they can leave the area. He held her hand as they climbed up to where Theo parked his motorcycle. The two hopped in and wore their helmets once again before heading off.
They back to campus and Theo parked right beside Chelsea's car. Chelsea took off her helmet and hands it over to Theo.
''Thanks for the ride,'' She said.
''No, problem.'' "Jamming a hand through his hair, Theo shoved his thoughts back down where they belonged. He didn't want to do it. He did not want to pull Chelsea closer and kiss her like a maniac.
His friendship with Chelsea has a consequence, and yeah again, he missed her hard, more than he'd usually admit.
But he couldn't go back. He forced himself not to do it. He pulled back and smiled at her as she takes a few steps back watching him getting ready to leave.
"It was really good to see you again, Birthday Girl. Have a nice night.''
''Yeah, you too.''
Theo backs up and heads out of Chelsea's way and she stood there in silence thinking about Theo. Her heart weakens knowing that she would never be with him because this is what it is for now.
And it was killing her softly.
Chelsea was falling in love with him.
