The bell rings to lunch which caused a stampede of hungry teens going to the cafeteria to eat some lunch. Once again the courtyard was divided by class, and by cliques.
Jocks and cheerleaders have their own table with their own music speaker listening to some hip-hop music. You have the band kids by the music building, the athletes by the gym building, the stoners under the stairs, and the artsy-nerds kids by the library.
Phoebe sat down next to Chelsea in the cafeteria as the two begin to talk about their classes and what teachers they liked so far. Chelsea then begins to talk about how Mr.Pierre is in her class, the strategies that he uses when he teaches French, also talked about a glimpse of Theo being there.
Phoebe rolls her eyes as she takes a bite of her tuna sandwich. ''Am I really going to sit here and hear you talk about my brother?''
''Well, it's not my fault that he has the same class as me,'' Chelsea wines as she muffled through while she was eating a sandwich as well. She wipes the mayo off her chin by using the napkin across from her beauty mark below down on her bottom left of her chin.
''Didn't know he was smart,'' Chelsea continues. ''Him being in AP, is interesting.''
''Ahem,'' Chelsea clears her throat and Chelsea looked at Phoebe. She was confused as if she's see was a deer being stopped at nearby headlights. Like she was caught doing something that was not supposed to do.
''So I'm interesting?'' Theo said, giving her a small grin.
''Umm, I don't mean it like that,'' Chelsea said.
''Yeah, okay,'' he responded, knowing that she was lying right in front of him. Chelsea's cheeks felt hot, it was impossible to not cool down seeing that Theo was right behind her.
''Dweeb, I need a five,'' He said to Phoebe.
For as long as Chelsea can remember, they call each other dweeb, punk, loser, even buttface at each other. Yes, they roast each other on a daily which Chelsea lives for. It's entertaining to see siblings roast each other.
''Didn't mom said you can't have any money within the first week.''
''So? That doesn't mean I'm going to listen. Hand it over.''
Phoebe sighed pulls her wallet and flicks him off with a middle finger. Theo gasped and so did Chelsea.
''Okay, I see how it is.''
''Should've never asked loser.''
He chuckled and walks away to another table. Pulling out his headphones, begin to write down some notes in his notebook. For a split second, he looked up to Chelsea once again as she quickly looked away, but she still felt his eyes gazing at her throughout the lunch hour.
--
By two fifteen, the school was over. Chelsea met up with Phoebe by the parking lot as they prepare themselves to go to Phoebe's place to hang out. Chelsea begins to call her mom letting her know she won't be home soon, since she staying at Grande's aka Phoebe, Theo, and their mother, Janet.
''Tell Janet I said hi,'' she said through the phone. The music in the background echoed through the phone, Chelsea knew then that her mother was working. Patricia, her mother, works at a daycare center from seven in the morning to four in the afternoon, on weekdays since Chelsea was about five.
Patricia loves kids and absolutely loves Chelsea with all her heart and soul. It's was always just the two of them, together with no one else.
''I will mom.''
After hanging up the phone, just in minutes, they arrived at Phoebe's home. Walking in, the two saw Phoebe's mother, Janet dancing to Whitney Houston's hit song 'How I Will I Know'. Janet wasn't just a mom, she was a cool one.
She was the mother who still wore out her fashion clothes as she was still living in the eighties. Bright makeup, space suns hair, and her favorite go-to outfit; off-the-shoulder cheetah print, black leggings, white leg warmers.
''Sweetie pie! You're here!" She said, coming to Phoebe.
''Mom!'' Phoebe replies with a laugh. ''What are you doing?''
''What does it look like? I'm having fun!' She laughed with us as she chews her gum. ''How's your mama baby?'' She asked Chelsea.
''Good, she's doing good.''
''That's good, listen my honey I'm going to make some dinner, you girls do whatever you need. Dinner will be ready by six.''
''Okay,'' Chelsea and Phoebe said together. Chelsea gave Janet a small hug as Phoebe gave her a small kiss on the cheek.
''Where's Theo?'' She shouts while the two head upstairs.
''I don't know probably with Diana,'' she responds catching up with Theo.
Diana Harper, the classical captain of the cheerleading team, part of the National Honors Society, Debate club, etc. Diana and Theo always have messed around with each other since middle school. Never serious but always messy.
Diana isn't the mean girl but she does rub off that energy to a lot of people, hence that her father used to be the Athletic Director before he retired at the school. But with Theo, it's a different story.
''So what episode did you left off?'' Phoebe said, changing into her comfortable clothes.
''I think eighteen? Not sure,'' Chelsea responds, taking off her jacket. Phoebe opes the TV scrolling through the episodes on the Netflix app. ''Doesn't matter I'll watch whatever you're watching.''
''Okay.''
''Going to use the bathroom,'' Chelsea said walking out the room to the bathroom. A commotion of giggles echoed through Theo's room which brought to Chelsea's attention. She took a glance and the door was slightly open.
She walked into the bathroom leaving it open as she scrambled around.
''Chelsea?'' Theo said. He was shirtless, showing off his six-pack, and was wearing dark-blue shorts merch from the school. It had the logo of the school with EAGLES in yellow capital letters.
''Theo.''
''What are you doing here?''
''I'm here to be with Phoebe, and staying for dinner as well,'' she gulped down her throat, anxiously. Theo gave her a nod and walked a bit closer. She could feel her heart pounding rapidly as he touches the ends of her braids.
''Guess I'll see you at dinner then.''
Chelsea sighed. ''I'll see you there too.''
