It had taken him a long time to get home. He knew Millie had been asleep for hours. How long had she been in the car?
He left quietly and entered the house through the door that connected to the garage. He turned on the lights in the kitchen and poured himself a glass of water. He noticed a few toys scattered around the house; Millie must have had a hard time sleeping, and the babysitter resorted to playing.
That's why Alaric wasn't accustomed to being late. Millie had a tough time falling asleep without him, and at worst, she insisted on waiting for him awake.
