The Thrill of Ruining Lives Trumps All

A few days had passed by and nothing seemed to have changed, no sign of Billy and Emma acted like nothing happened between us that night. While I prefer it that way, I still wasn't sure what kind of mess I could get in the very next moment. My anxiety had gone through the roof as I sipped on my third cup of coffee, even the waiter looked at me funny. I was waiting for someone named Go. He was a friend of my husband through his line of work and if anyone can get me through this mess it was him. Eventually after I finished even the third cup he showed up, dressed casually as if he'd come out of his house to go to the park or something. The lousy t-shirt he wore did his big belly no favors, as soon as he saw me he rushed to the chair in front. He could barely fit in it. "You look like you've been eating biscuits in a basement." I said, visually disgusted with his appearance. "Oh shut up bitch." he replied. His face was a meaty mess, with double chins and skin hanging under his eyes he looked more like a circus attraction than a man. Despite all that I needed his help, if things weren't this bad I never would've asked him for help. " You heard of the fire in the west ward." I asked, laying down my empty cup. Without even replying he waved to the waiter calling him in. "Get me a coffee and a tuna sandwich" he told him. He looked back at me, his hands on the belly shaking it. "I'm on a diet." he said with a nasty smile. I tried asking him again but he just wouldn't talk until his food and coffee had arrived. And then he said it himself. "You killed a man, and you want me to get rid of the evidence." he took a bite from the sandwich. I almost jumped out of my chair. How did he know? I never told anyone anything about it. Was he spying on me, but that seemed unlikely. "How do you know?" I asked him, leaning close to make sure my voice was low enough for only him to hear. He laughed with the piece of bread in his mouth, after washing it down with the coffee he replied. "Cause nobody contacts me otherwise honey." He shoved the entire sandwich in his mouth as he said it and then gulped the rest of the coffee along with it. "You are a pig." I couldn't help but say it. He looked at me for a second before replying this time. "I never knew what he saw in you." taking out the napkin he cleaned his face. "But I do believe you made him weak, he was the cream of the crop when it came to business but,"he stopped, his eyes looked up at mine. I wasn't simply gonna let him say whatever he wanted and I believe that he understood that. " What do you want? "he leaned back into the chair, I could hear his back crack. " I don't want to know how you got here or anything, the less I know the better. '' he informed. I wasn't sure how he'll help me and whatever would be my part in all of this but if there was only one way out of this I was gonna take it. It took an unnecessary amount of time but I told him about the fire but not why I did it, then I told him about the cop Billy Macbel and even about the survivors and their families. Although he seemed a bit surprised he wasn't questioning it at all, as if he didn't care what the situation was he simply wanted to get to his part. "I want a scapegoat." there I asked him. I was ready to hear what he had to say. He gave me a contemplating look before heaving a sigh and finally speaking. "The single father, he's a good option." he told me, I knew that, in the end he was one of the most likely suspects. After all, when the fire happened his kid was conveniently outside and the injuries he suffered were more than anyone else on the first floor. He even had a depressing air about him perhaps that could be of use. "If it was between you and him, I'd say they will still be suspicious of you but if he confessed to the police himself." Once again he gave me a smile. We were on the same page. "That's why I need your help." I said. "Leave it to me, just get my payment ready." he said, the smile had just grown more. I knew he wasn't gonna work for free, after all he looked as if he was pregnant with nine babies. "I'll call you when it's time, you should act like you always do till then." he got out of his chair after struggling for a bit. "I didn't bring my purse, pay for me Anna." he said as he left. I didn't waste anymore time and left the place myself, despite it being a recent establishment and good coffee I never went there ever again and I hoped he didn't either. There was still time before I made it to school, it was my first day back and I didn't want to leave a bad impression by being late on the first day. Thankfully I haven't been replaced in my absence, somehow the news had made it to the principal's office and when I called he was understanding of my situation. When I got there I realised that I hadn't changed my clothes and was wearing a dress instead of the school uniform for the teachers. "s**t" I breathed, going back now wasn't really an option I'll just have to make up an excuse for it today. I took out a hand mirror from my purse and started fixing my makeup, also my hair was somewhat of a mess so I tied them back . After being done with it I checked in my bag for the digest and English book and thankfully they were there. I first went to the principal's office to greet him and leave a good impression after such a long absence. But when I got there I heard a female voice arguing with him in his cabin so I waited until a lady probably in her late fifties left the room. I checked myself once again before knocking. "Sir?" I asked. "Miss Rhodes? come in" he said, his voice a bit rough from the arguing. As I entered I noticed a sudden frown on his face. He must've thought I was in the school uniform but seeing me in a dress was somewhat of a surprise. "I thought you were gonna be teaching today." he motioned me to sit down. I laid my bag on the table and sat down in the chair. "I'm sorry sir but the uniform was torn by mice, I just noticed it this morning." he looked somewhat defeated as if he wasn't even paying attention to the conversation. "It's okay, just make sure to wear the uniform tomorrow." he said, rubbing his forehead with his fingers. "Sir are you okay." I asked, I couldn't care less to be honest but I felt like it was common decency to do so. He chuckled and faced me for the first time since I entered. I even noticed a gaze going towards my breasts but he quickly withdrew it to my face again. " I'm fine, it's just that my wife is sometimes really unreasonable." he rested his hands on the table. So the woman was his wife huh, somehow watching this man suffering from that small headache made my heart race and wanted to make him suffer just a little bit more. I rested my hands on top of his casually, still looking at his face he seemed a bit surprised but didn't say anything. "If it's something I can help with, please do tell me." I said, rubbing my thumb on his hands. I could see the tension on his face slowly wash away but as he withdrew his hands from under mine I knew he wasn't that easy to break. "It's our son's birthday, he wants a sports car." he said, I once again caught him stealing glances at my cleavage. "He's just sixteen. I don't think we should give it to him, while she thinks it's a good idea for some reason.'' The matter was much more trivial than I thought it was. I found myself losing all interest. "Well Sammy is a good student I don't think he would do anything unreasonable but since you are his parent." I gave him a weak smile pretending to care. "Now that I think about it you should do as your wife says." I laughed before getting up. "I thought you were gonna give me some good advice," he said, scratching his bald head. "Keeping your wife happy is good advice." I said before taking my leave. Sammy was one of the students that attended my class. It would be fun to mess with him even if somewhat. Every time I saw even the tiniest bit of hope of ruining someone's life and making them do something horrible of their own volition it made my heart jump. I wasn't sure how I had changed so much in such little time but while Go found a way to deal with the fire case, I should be able to have some fun without getting in trouble.
