“That's the third bottle tonight, Cole, you might want to ease up on that a little bit!” he cautioned his brother, snatching the bottle of whiskey off the counter.
Cole's heart raced, his green eyes buried under the bags that had already formed under his eyes. He had been miserable for not days, weeks or months. He had been miserable for a year.
Sometimes he drank, and sometimes he just stared at the ceiling and watched. Sometimes, every full moon, he is miserable.
“Honestly, I would most likely prefer the part where you stalk her rather than drink a whole factory!”
“It's been a year, Caden, a year since I knew who my mate was, and she doesn't know me yet. Do you know how that feels?” Cole expressed the deepest pain of his life at the moment.
“No I don’t.. Dude come on, have you tried talking to her?”
Cole turns to his brother, red-eyed from stress and anxiety.
“She loathes Alphas. They stink to her. I might not know everything about her, but there are rumors and even the moon goddess seemed very reluctant to tell me her name. She is having way too much fun pairing me with a psychotic female Alpha!” Cole reaches for another bottle on the wine rack but gets stopped by Caden.
He throws his head backwards in defeat. Every month on every full moon, for six months, he stalks Dimitri, covering up his scents multiple times.
Even after he realized she was in a relationship, he still couldn't bring himself to stop being a freak and stop stalking her.
Caden looks outside, his mind deeply, thinking about how to help his elder brother out of this mess. Breakups. Yes, he could help get over. But a mate that hasn't even rejected him yet, but already feels rejected…
That… that he doesn't know how to heal..
“Hey, Duncan's party is tonight, why not show up? Maybe that will distract you a bit!” Caden suggested.
Cole immediately shook his head. Disagreeing with Caden’s plan.
“No, I have somewhere to be!” Cole stands up on his 6’5. No matter how much he drank, nothing could hold him down, not even alcohol.
Caden immediately runs to block him.
“No… we have somewhere to be, and it's a party. You are not going to stalk her just for tonight, and afterward you can do whatever you want!” Caden convinced.
“Just for tonight?” Cole confirms.
“Yes!”
“Okay!” Cole shrugs…
“Who plans a floral party on the night of a full moon?” Cole wondered.
“Well, that will be Duncan. You know he has a fetish for flowers. Like the one he used to poison a whole pack, remember?”
“I sure do!”
The two walked in the crowd as they tried to find a place to sit. Caden wasn't a fan of the crowd as well as Cole, but Caden wanted to drown whatever noise or thoughts in his brother's mind.
He missed the Cole from a year ago, the Cole before the moon goddess decided to appear out of nowhere.
That night she came. The joy Cole felt from having a mate, but Caden could just tell that the moon goddess was enjoying this particular match way too much.
Suddenly, Cole stops in his tracks and grips Caden tightly.
“What is it?” Caden asked.
“She's here!” Cole looked around frantically, trying to point Dimitri out in the crowd. It wasn't long until he spotted her.
“Is that her? She does stand out, I see what you mean now!” Caden realized his heartbreak for his brother.
As if to steal his moment, Duncan walks into view smiling right at Dimitri.
That wasn't even hurtful enough, the fact that Dimitri smiled right back at him. He wished that it was him, he wished he could make her smile like that.
“Hey, hey man, chill, you don't actually know if there's anything going on between them!”
Cole remained silent.
In a short while, his fears graduated as he saw Duncan lead Dimitri out of the party.
“Uhmm… well they might be… Caden barely completed his statement before realising that Cole was no longer with him..
Cole carefully followed till they reached the porch. He listened carefully to all they said and the more he listened, the more his heart broke into shreds.
“A Beta. Thank goodness!” Dimitri's voice confirmed his fears and rumors.
She really does hate Alphas.
But why???
His heart plummeted as her eyes glowed right back at Duncan, it Indeed was beautiful. At that moment, a wash of joy and love came from his soul. He could stare at her all day.
This joy was soon watered down when Duncan planted a kiss on the plump lips of his mate.
His wolf roared silently in pain , and he hurried off before he got out of control.
But it was too late. His wolf began to roar, and he needed to be tamed, but not at the party. Immediately, Cole rushed outside, brushing his shoulder against Caden, who wondered what he was on.
For a short while, Cole was outside in the garden, struggling to put his wolf in check.
Suddenly, his wolf calms down, at the sight of the very one he yearned for.
He sensed her presence and followed her into the woods.
“Wait, you kissed her? And wiped her memory?” Caden exclaimed.
“I had to, but it was ephemeral. She is so beautiful and Duncan's scent was all over her. It would be a great deal if she was stuck with the memory of being with an Alpha, whilst in love with Duncan!” Cole explains.
“But what if he knows, what if… wait, how do you even know she's in love with him, aren't they just meeting?”
“I can't really tell what's going on, but I know for a fact that Duncan wants her!”
“Isn’t Duncan like an Alpha or something?” Caden pointed out.
“Yes… but not anymore. He lost his Alpha powers at the games, remember?” Cole explained, pacing back and forth.
“I just had to… Am I going to regret this?” Cole sincerely asks his brother Looking deep into his eyes.
“Yes you will….you will wish she had stayed with that memory... you will wish you had never been selfish. Cause right now, you alone have that memory to yourself, that's worse!”.
Worse than any rejection…
