Chapter 3 : The Wolf In The Woods….
“Dimitri, wait!” Willow called out to her friend, who was walking like a drunkard amidst the crowd.
What has suddenly gotten into her? Willow worried as she followed and tried to keep up with Dimitri. Soon she lost Dimitri to the crowd and she stood there confused.
Dimitri makes her way outside through wherever she was coming from. It was either she remained there and choked or she lived.
The haziness in her eyes slowly dissipates.
The air indeed helped, she acknowledged standing alone on a garden path. Her eyes trailed up in the night sky to find solace in the moon’s beauty.
Maybe it's a little obsession werewolves have with the moon. They seem to find some type of comfort in it.
“Awe Great!” Dimitri snapped at the fact that the moon wasn't in sight, but she could see it playing peekaboo with her behind a tall mountain covering it.
“Why am I even snapping?” She thought to herself. Her heart raced like it had been running a gazillion miles per minute.
Somehow, the challenge within herself changed from her thinking something wasn't right about everything, to finding the moon behind that mountain.
She looked around to see if there was anyone around, and when she was sure, she tiptoed along the garden path, till she came to a gate covered in tree shrubs.
The gate creaked open slowly, and she ran off into the woods.
Dimitri was never one to go into the wild and explore. In fact, if there was one thing she hated greatly, it would be her life as a werewolf.
This challenge to “catch the moon unawares” slowly turned into a ball of fire that erupted from within her soul. Running deeper into the woods and farther away from the party, she felt lighter.
Suddenly she stops in her tracks, catching onto something, something coming in her direction, a heartbeat racing, a scent, another werewolf.
At the speed of light, a wolf ran past her, causing a leaf under her bare foot to crumble and her heart to jump.
A wicked smile crept on her face. Dimitri saw this as a suitable challenge for her.
But for what??
She wanted to stop and analyze the whole situation, and why she was acting like she was under the influence, but she just couldn't stop.
It would be a miracle to see Dimitri turn fully, but tonight she did, and she ran in the light and glory of her fur and limbs.
Soon she caught up with this other wolf, who could tell it had a rival already. As if both sensing a challenge, they raced one another to the mountain.
The Moon had perfectly risen by the time they got there. Her eyes gazed at it as she slowly returned to human form. This was what she came for.
But her mind immediately went back to her rival. She looked back and realized it was standing there watching the moon as well.
It wasn't long before it started to head back.
“Wait!” Dimitri called. It stopped in its tracks and slowly turned to look at Dimitri.
It was an Alpha she knew.
“I don't know what to say but… Who are you?” Dimitri asked, taking little steps into the Shadow where she could only see its eyes and the rest of its body hidden in the Shadow of the moon's cast.
She watched as his animal-like body stretched into its human state. Its eyes still glowed.
“Can I see you, step into the light?” She asked.
“I don't need to…. Dimitri!” A masculine voice roared softly.
Softly did his voice speak to her soul. Dimitri felt her racing heart calm just by hearing him. Now she really wanted to see him so badly.
Whatever she was doing would be considered acting out of impulse. Whatever was happening at the moment….
“That's the problem with you Alphas. You're super proud and …
“Possessive. Are you forgetting that you shouldn't be here in the first place!” he replied.
Dimitri takes another bold step towards him, still not able to see his face.
“Would it matter if I came closer?” Dimitri whispered.
A low growl escaped from his throat.
“I don't know what I'm doing, but I left that party feeling some type of way and…
“You don't know what you are doing!” he reminded.
She closes the gap between them, causing their skins to graze upon one another.
“How did you know my name?” Dimitri asked.
“That's not the point, it's almost the last phase of the moon, you need to head back before they discover you are missing!”
Dimitri gulped hard as she tried to pay attention rather than be distracted by what she felt whilst their skin touched.
There has to be an explanation for this behavior of hers. She convinced herself.
“Okay” she concluded, and somehow that brought her back to reality for a moment. She walks past him, still not able to take in what he looks like.
Suddenly, he pulled her back into his brick frame. She could hear his heart pounding.
“We might both regret this, but I will make it easier on you!” he said, and before she could speak, he took her lips into his and kissed her so passionately that her feet began to beg for mercy.
She realized in that short sweet moment what she was feeling towards Duncan.
It wasn't love or attraction….
It was fear!!!
He pulls away and looks into her eyes from the shadow. The moonlight kissed her face and something about her just begged for mercy. It's as if she was screaming for help.
“Why did you do that?” Dimitri stuttered, flustered, shocked and most annoyingly wanting more.
“I don't know, but you will most definitely not remember this!” he said.
“What?”
His eyes glowed suddenly, triggering her wolf senses. He cupped her head in his. All Dimitri could realize at that moment was she had no control over whatever he was doing.
It felt like something was being seeped from her. In a minute the whole thing was over. She opened her eyes just to find out he wasn't anywhere to be found.
Dimitri looked around and tried recalling why she was there…
Why was she on the mountain?
From a distance she heard a loud howl…
“What am I doing here?”
The last thing she remembered was being with Duncan…
Hurriedly, she races and finds her way back to the party.
But he stood in the woods and watched.
