Chapter 4

“Pardon?” I said, with narrowed eyes. “I believe you heard me right", he grinned. " A contract marriage. Strictly speaking, you would be his wife for a certain period of time", Mr Josh said and I gaped at him. My head could not process the information I was just getting. Why would Mr Windsor want me for such a job? I believed so much in marriage and love but a contract was a mockery of all that I held dear. Besides, I was having a bad morning and I could not entertain any form of suppression. I looked at Mr Josh and anger rose from my belly. “You say this, like I have no right to vehemently dispute it". My questions caused him to smirk. “If you want to try his personality, You might as well say no to Mr Liam", he responded with unfounded sarcasm. "Don’t you know he never takes no for an answer besides, he is in a bad mood right now. If I were you,I would be quiet and follow through with whatever he offers”. He instructed and with that he opened the door, letting us into the large, cosy room. It was extravagantly furnished. I had never come into this particular office. My lips were slightly agape not just because of the breathtaking view of the large office but most importantly because of the strongly attractive man who stood at the window, and whose gaze met with mine. His looks were intriguing. I was desiring lustful things with him. I lost all my willpower not to gasp in wonder. In a short while, I forgot I was here to suppress and completely reject his proposal even before it came. “Miss Williams?” I heard a deep sultry voice that sent sparks to my veins and I fixed my gaze on him. His face was so wonderfully sculptured, his eyes blue and cool. "What heavenly human is this"? I wondered in my thoughts. His pink luscious lips were curved in a smile. His height was intimidating. His hair was dense and nicely packed into a bun up while he let a few strands fall on his face lines, accentuating his looks. I gulped as my eyes scanned his body. In his well fitted suit, he looked like he would have a body sculpted to perfectio Dear lord, what sort of godlike human is this? He is such a handsome human, I thought to myself. “Miss Williams?” He asked again and I nearly jumped. “Yes, that is me," I said, trying to stiffen my voice. I could never let him know that I was awestruck with his looks. “Please come with me", he said, leading me to an inner office. "Stay here Josh and ensure that nobody looks for me or calls for me, within the next thirty minutes to one hour. Got that?” He said with an authoritative voice and Josh nodded. “Understood, sire", Josh replied quickly assuming his position by the door. I and Mr Liam entered the personal office of Mr Zellie , the CEO of the company. I wondered why Mr Zellie would allow Liam such a privilege. He walked to the table and adjusted a chair that spun in front of him. “Sit”! He ordered, pointing to the chair. So ungentlemanly, I thought. More reason why I had to reject this marriage, or whatever it was he was about to spew. I pulled out the chair and sat cross-legged with arms folded. “Mr Josh brought me here to see you. He said you requested I meet with you” I seethed simply and he studied my face intently. “Is there something on my face?” I asked, with my eyebrows raised and a largely blushed cheeks. I was petrified. ******************************** LIAM WINDSOR A beautiful woman she is, indeed. I recalled that I had seen her last week by the cafeteria, and ever since I had been awestruck with her beauty. Truly, my father's choice was not entirely bad but I was simply unready for a true marriage. The hassles of maintaining love and trust within a union often stirs up fear within me. So, even though she was attractive and had an intensely admirable curve and a strong aura that drew my heart close, I could not fathom a possibility of a real marriage; not at the moment. Hence, I shut my heart to my father's wish and devices my own plot which was; “Miss Lucerne, I want you to be my wife for a while". The words were truly heavy for me to spill. A frown etched on her little face and without hesitation, she replied with a slight outburst: "I am sorry to disappoint you, Mr Windsor but this is not possible". “Excuse me"? I asked, looking into her brown eyes that looked sullen as though she had cried all morning. “I do not see why not. Your job is to attend events with me, go on dates with me, visit my parents two days a week, and tend to my needs during the weekend. I do not see what is so difficult to do.” I said and she narrowed her eyes. “Will I also do wifely duties?” She asked without hesitation and I laughed hysterically. I could sense her uneasiness. “By wifely duties, Miss Williams, do you mean warming my bed each and every night? You are quite naughty", I cheered. She said nothing. Her lips twisted probably because she was slightly embarrassed. "Tell me Miss Williams, what is a marriage without bedwarming", I said with an unwavering intention to provoke her. She was provoked indeed. “Excuse me Mr Liam? Do I look like a professional slut to you?” She asked venomously. I could feel the heat of her rising anger. “I never said so.” I said simply, trying now to calm her, almost raging nerves. "But if the need arises, we may attempt some foul play. It is a marriage, after all." "A contract marriage could never be a marriage"! She spat and rose to her feet, angrily. "I cannot be cajoled into a marriage, Mr Windsor". "I am not cajoling anyone. All I have done is ask, like a proper gentleman, that you marry me and bear my last name. Or is my last name not good enough for you? I asked with a tone of sarcasm. How could my last name not be good enough for her? The name Windsor was highly respected all over New Orleans. We were the richest family in New Orleans and fourth richest in the United States of America. My father's company; The Windsors Corporation, was a fast-paced tech-based enterprise. We first started out as property buyers and later when we saw that Tech was the new gold, we ventured into it. Ever Since, we have doubled our yearly income and built a business empire that has spread across different industries and locations. Who would not want to associate with us not to talk of rejecting a proposal from the heir apparent? Nobody but Lucerne Williams. Lucerne Williams was quite a hard nut. She shunned my words and threw her glance away from me. She was too stubborn and witty but I was just about to Clip her wings down. I silently reached for my drawer, and I brought out the already drafted contract and placed it in front of her. “Sign the contract, Miss Williams” I said in a cold authoritative voice and I saw her visibly shudder. “I refuse to, Mr Windsor” She managed to reply, and started to walk away. “Even if it could help facilitate your brother's heart surgery?” I asked and sat back in my chair with my satisfaction reeling out on my face. Lucerne froze in her tracks, just as I had expected. “How on earth did you know about my brother’s surgery?”, she asked in great shock.
