Chapter 11

Lyra's POV I glared at the documents one more time before signing on it. The proposed contract marriage was to last just four months. This should buy I and Eleanor enough time to permanently move away from them. I finished signing the papers then handed it to Luca, who did the same. “There you go, it's all over now.” I said and stood up to leave. We both got in the car and he drove off. The car was silent as we rode home. Quite an odd moment for two people who just signed documents to be legally married. “What will you do now? My brother is probably deriving multiple ways he can gain custody of Eleanor already. We cannot let him win.” Luca suddenly said. “I, Luca, I cannot let him win. There is no us in this. Just sit back and fill your role. It'll be over soon.” I blurted. I checked back where Eleanor was sitting, she was still fast asleep. “Cassian and Maelis will try everything in their power, but I will win in the end. None of them would get my daughter.” I stated. We soon reached home and I laid Eleanor in her bed. She held my finger tightly as I laid her down and wouldn't let go for a while. She had grown so attached to to me that she would not let go even in her sleep. This was more reason I could never let Cassian get what he wants. After she let go, I planted a kiss on her cheek and left the room quietly. The lights flickered as I walked back into the living room. I paused and gazed at it, “I should get the electrician to fix this tommorow.” Luca rose up, he was on his phone until I walked in. “I think I can fix it, do you have spare bulbs here?” He asked. I stared at him oddly before answering, “Yes, yes I do. There are a few left somewhere here.” I searched around and soon found them in a drawer. After handing it to Luca, I watched as he climbed on the chairs and swapped the old bulbs for the new ones. The lights stopped flickering now, the problem was fixed. A smile formed on my face, there would be no reason to call the electrician now. We both sat down one again. “So, what will you be doing from here? I will return to college tomorrow, there are so many classes I've missed, I need to make up for them.” Luca asked. “I don't really have a something in mind yet. Every job I applied for, I still await results. Perhaps I'll get appointed at one soon enough.” I replied. This finally reminded me to check my emails like I did daily. I was waiting to hear from the supermarkets I applied to work for. One had rejected to give me a job and there was one left. I opened my mails and scrolled down to refresh it. A new email popped out almost immediately. I gasped when I recognized the name of the place, it was the same supermarket I applied. My heart throbbed as I opened it, Luca had noticed my reaction but was still lost on what was happening. Slowly, I opened the mail and read through. “Yes! I got it!” I jumped happily. Luca was spooked, he leaned closer and read it. “Oh you got the job? Talk about perfect timing.” He said and chuckled. “This finally gives me something to rely on other than the money I get from here!” I said happily. Luca nodded slightly and continued staring at me. I pauses and cleared my throat, “Sorry, I was just so happy.” “Oh it's fine. Wait, what about Eleanor. Where would she stay whilst both of us are away?” I paused, this was not something I had planned beforehand. Taking her with me wasn't an option, surely the supreme would not allow something like that. “My mother might be my only option here. She'll take care of Eleanor and I'll pick her there daily. She was already taking care of her when she was here, this should not be too much for her.” I stated. Luca heaved a sigh of relief, “ That is good to hear. I'll leave for my room now, you have a lot to do tommorow.” He said and stood up to leave. “Luca..thank you. For helping me back then, I don't know how I would have gotten out of that mess without you here.” He smiled faintly, “I was just helping out my landlady as she was in a distress.” I watched as he left. “Quite an odd response but I guess that's expected.” I said and chuckled. The next day, I woke very early than I usually did. I finished bathing Eleanor, she roamed around the house whilst I cook. Everytime I walked past Luca's door, I stared at it. He was in there and didn't come out the entire time. “Breakfast is ready, Eleanor!” I yelled out, as she was still running around. She stopped and came to me, “I am not hungry today, mother. Where is the mister that carried me yesterday? I want to play with him again.” Eleanor asked. My eyes widened, she could recall everything that happened the previous night? “Umm, he's still sleeping. Eat up and he'll join us.” I muttered. I left her and headed for Luca's door. The moment I reached for the door, it opened slightly. “Wait what?” I paused by the door, wondering why he would leave his door unlocked. “Umm, Hey Luca. Are you awake yet?” I called out but got no response. After waiting a few minutes, I called out again but still got no response. “Screw it.” I pushed the door open, covering my eyes halfway as I entered. I opened my eyes but there was surprisingly no one around. He had left the house before I even woke up! I reached for my phone and dialed his number. It rang and he finally picked it, “Good morning, Lady Lyra. Is there a reason you're calling me this fine morning?” “You left home already? I was just wondering since you left your door open.” “Oh yes, I did. There is something I need to do very early. Have a great day at work, Lyra.” He said and ended the call. I sighed and stepped out of his room.
